Please post what you think MJ did better than anyone (without resorting to the obvious things).

I’m gonna resort to the obvious: music. I cannot name a single artist that was as versatile, creative, or daring as MJ. I’m clearly biased, but I truly feel he was on another level entirely.

Beyond that? I’d say he was also the king of simplistic music. Most of his songs are 2-3 chords max, and yet he makes the most of every moment and never lets it sound generic.

He did let many of his songs sound generic, such as:

- 'This Time Around'
- 'Butterflies'
- 'Another Part Of Me'
- 'Heaven Can Wait'
- 'Dangerous' (the title track)
- 'She Drives Me Wild'
- 'The Way You Make Me Feel'
- 'Invincible' (the title track)
- 'Can't Let Her Get Away'
- 'Break of Dawn'

The above songs sound generic because of their repetitive, monotonous rhymes and also because of their shallow lyrics.

In terms of music, Michael Jackson cannot really be considered versatile, creative, or daring.

He was a trend-settler, rather than a trend-setter.

His studio albums have the typical sound of the eras from which they came.

Even his 'Invincible' album which was being advertised (before its release) as an album that would shock the world with a totally unpredictable sound, it eventually was an album with a sound that listeners were already familiar with and with a sound that used to appear on the charts at that time.

Very few of his songs were versatile, creative, or even daring ('Morphine', 'Black Or White', 'Earth Song' are 3 of them that come to mind).

Not really, but I totally get what you mean. Some songs are like that, mostly the funky, groove-oriented songs. There are some which are quite complex though (e.g. Childhood, Will You Be There, Earth Song).

Are you really a MJ fan? You must be one of very few people who do not think MJ was a trend-setter.

With most his adult albums he set the bar for other musicians, he directed the way music moved. Maybe it was already going that way a bit, but MJ made soo many others artist follow his lead.

He was not only a trend-setter with music - but musicvideos became small shortfilms with a storyline because of MJ. - before that it was normally just a video of the singer/band singing the song. - Like the SOOML-video. - Musicvideos bacame what they are today thanks to - and because of - MJ.

Fashion is also something MJ did. - In the 80's and 90's so much fashion followed MJ's fashion. - still to a degree this is true today.
Millitary, Beat It, Thriller, Bad, zippers etc.

I have never heard anyone claim that MJ was not musically creative??? - I do not even know where this come from?

Little Susie, Earth Song, Billie Jean, Heal the World, Will You Be There, Liberian Girl, Smooth Criminal etc. etc. - how on earth can anyone claim it is not creative?

When he released his 'Off The Wall' disco album (1979), it was a period when the disco genre was on a downward spiral.

Or, when he released his 'Dangerous' new jack swing album (1991), it was a period when the new jack swing genre was on a downward spiral, too.

Michael Jackson also released his 'Blood On The Dance Floor' new jack swing song in 1997 (even as a lead single from that album), but the new jack swing genre had already reached its peak a decade ago.

For the most part, he wanted to play it safe when it came to his music.

The very few exceptions of his songs that musically can be described as unconventional or daring just prove that.

You wrote generic and then referred to the masterpiece that is, Another Part Of Me.
I'm going to assume that was an error on your part @mj_frenzy

'Another Part Of Me' is a generic song.

Bear in mind also that generic songs are used very often for video games.

And that actually happened with it because it was used (as a dance attack and level song) for the later versions of his 'Moonwalker' Sega video game.

Also, 'Another Part Of Me' cannot be called a masterpiece.

Even Michael Jackson himself did not want it on his 'BAD' album and he opted for 'Streetwalker' in the place of it, as revealed by Quincy Jones.

Great video lol
Even his grunting makes me wanna dance.

Many people absolutely hate MJ’s vocalizations though which blows my mind, it is completely unique!

It's far from a generic song, by the video game logic, is Billie Jean generic because MJ used it in his Pepsi advert? Of course it's not
