Some notes:

They Don't Care About Us prison version: an unofficial channel had this version for a long time with a lot more views than the official Vevo channel (IIRC it had some 50 million views or so), but apparently it's been removed now.

Smooth Criminal: It is uploaded on a lot of unofficial channels. That's why the official one has so few views relatively (considering it's widely viewed as one of MJ's best videos). Eg. this one has more views than the one on the official channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDLykurJIMA

The official Dirty Diana video is not on Vevo.

The official Who Is It video is not on Vevo. This unofficial upload has over 12 million views: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENC5MEzrRp8

The most popular upload of In The Closet (over 8 million views) is also not the one on the official channel but this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbl_ctRj8C8

Dirty Diana official video actually is on there, it just has the live performance as a thumbnail. I thought the same thing for a long time.

^why doesn't it have a Vevo logo. This makes it look like a fan uploaded it.

I was just reading Michael's stat page of the cities with the most views. In the US New York is the highest. But the next US city is Houston Texas. That's where I am and I know no one who is a Michael fan.
I wonder how many of these views are me. Lol.

I'm joking but I do listen to playlists thru YouTube rather than Spotify or pandora.

Does this September 2014 date mean total views from September thru now?

So this is all in less than a year? (Sorry-just want to understand the stats).

How we calculate your total views
An artist's "total views" is based on both official and fan-uploaded videos claimed using Content ID. It includes data from September 2014 onwards.

BTW, I made a little analysis today and it seems to confirm what we often discuss that MJ is popular among a more culturally diverse audience than either the Beatles or Elvis. For example, he is a lot more popular in Arab and/or Muslim countries or in Africa.

Interesting list.

It surprises me that Tokyo & Moscow are not included in this top 10 list.

It surprises me that Tokyo & Moscow are not included in this top 10 list.

I was analyzing the countries list today and Russia generally isn't that high on this list (#17). Japan is at #9.

You also have to calculate the general development of a country. For example, while Russia has a huge population (about 140 million people) but probably not as many people have and use the Internet as in the Western world. Same goes for African countries - even though a couple of them still showed up among Michael's Top 100 countries (South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, Egypt, Senegal).

This has been pretty interesting. I looked up a couple of people like Bruno Mars for example. His stats are high, but no cities in US in top 10. Janet Jackson for example had several US cities but not high.
Very fun to look at this.

Actually I did a little analysis today. For example comparing the view numbers of a country to its population.

Then you have this order:

1. Chile (27,692,934 views/population: 18,006,407=154%)
2. Trinidad and Tobago 152%
3. Mexico 110%
4. Hungary 107%
5. Georgia 106%
6. Netherlands 103%
7. UK 103%
8. Denmark 99%
9. Argentina 96%
(...)
27. USA 74%

This same stat for the Beatles is:

1. Argentina 76%
2. Chile 71%
3. Uruguay 65%
4. Israel 63%
5. Mexico 61%
6. UK 58%
7. Canada 51%
8. Georgia 50%
9. Slovenia 46%
10. Czech Republic 46%
11. USA 44%

For Elvis:

1. Chile 109%
2. Netherlands 82%
3. Norway 70%
4. Sweden 70%
5. Canada 67%
6. UK 66%
7. Slovenia 63%
8. Finland 60%
9. Denmark 57%
10. Switzerland 50%
(...)
24. USA 34%

Comparing MJ with the Beatles and Elvis. The Beatles are not more popular anywhere. Elvis is slightly more popular in two countries, Norway and Finland, everywhere else MJ is more popular. The Beatles are closest to MJ in popularity in the following countries:

1. Israel
2. Argentina
3. Uruguay
4. Slovenia
5. Germany
6. Indonesia
7. Canada
8. Finland
9. Ireland
10. USA

As I said Elvis is slightly more popular in Finland and Norway, apart from those everywhere else MJ is more popular, so the Top 10 countries where they are closest in popularity are:

1. Finland
2. Norway
3. Slovenia (here and from here down MJ is already more popular)
4. Thailand
5. Canada
6. Sweden
7. Netherlands
8. Austria
9. Croatia
10. Chile

Michael's advantage compared to both the Beatles and Elvis becomes the biggest in Arab and/or Muslim countries and in countries which are not considered Western in culture. For example:

Saudi Arabia views:

MJ: 12,761,890
Beatles: 700,046
Elvis: 1,781,018

Egypt:

MJ: 6,807,098
Beatles: 247,480
Elvis: 486,323

Iraq

MJ: 3,974,263
Beatles: 47,416
Elvis: 580,367

Tunisia

MJ: 4,221,129
Beatles: 170,262
Elvis: 302,598

Kuwait

MJ: 1,985,758
Beatles: 40,041
Elvis: 206,644

Qatar

MJ: 1,481,282
Beatles: 152,749
Elvis: 181,546

There's also a big difference in countries like

India

MJ: 19,022,264
Beatles: 2,910,988
Elvis: 2,055,315

Vietnam

MJ: 17,944,190
Beatles: 2,947,851
Elvis: 1,281,117

Jamaica

MJ: 1,981,636
Beatles: 29,488
Elvis: 127,002

Bangladesh

MJ: 2,127,305
Beatles: 166,962
Elvis: 97,787

Michael had views from Kenya (1,045,354), Tanzania (646,104), Oman (745,882), Senegal (604,549). Neither the Beatles or Elvis had these countries in their Top 100.

As for Japan (because it was mentioned above):

MJ: 36,150,546
Beatles: 20,955,040
Elvis: 9,040,067
