Gift
An old soul, a midget
Oh the confusion!
A child in the body
Of a man running sixty!
Little wonder then
You were deemed - A prodigy!
A gorgeous voice
So well poised
Cut above the rest
Only, but the best
Tiny remarkable feet
Set the stage ablaze
The crowd watched agape
This charismatic tot
Later to be christened
The Great King of Pop!
Magic
From beneath the stage you rose
And stood in a magnificent pose
Facing the thousands of adoring fans
Who await the magical song and dance
You slide across the stage
You swing above the crowds
You spin with unmatched grace
Deftly ending on your magic toes
The sights and sounds of faraway places
Lucky were those who caught the glimpses
Each second turned memory to behold
As the magical moments unfold
You sing with all the joy in your heart
A voice of beauty, strength and purity
A song that will reach, caress and last
All those around, from now to eternity
One of a kind
You are truly one of a kind,
A single trademark white glove,
Glittering sequins of silver so fine,
A stately Black Fedora hat
Feet adorned in loafers and spats
Pants just above the ankle
That Silhouette so unmistakable!
Inspiration
With every song sung
You were loved and admired
With every dance danced
We were thrilled and inspired
The children of yesteryear
The stars of today and future
Still keep you close and dear
Your light ever the brighter
We learnt to give and love
Every color, race and creed
Search for inner strength
To serve all those in need
Never to lose sight or faith,
In what we do, aim to succeed.
Give
From the time you were a little boy
Giving to others was a cause for joy
That quality never left you
With time, the desire only grew
You extended your hand to those in need
You raised awareness, and funds to feed
A suffering child never escaped your eye
You healed the world with your kindly might
Human
Alas, you were human
Perhaps too human
You cut, bled and embarrassed
Just as you once said
You were dissected and ridiculed
By the press and all those evil
Your kindness misunderstood
Your words taken out of context
Made to suffer unfairly
Prosecuted bitterly
Yet you never lost dignity
In the face of enmity
But you were human,
You had a beating heart
One that was broken
A thousand times
After all you had given
Everything precious was taken.
Even though you took it in stride
The pain was still too great to hide
Because you were human
Courage
The obstacles grew taller
But you emerged stronger
A gentle, soft soul, with a heart of gold
Belied the courage, of a lion bold
You stood up
After every blow
You survived
Every painful toll
Try as they might
They could not bring you down
And in your final curtain call
Your luminosity shamed them all.
Back in top form they said
But they failed to remember
If you had it once, you have it forever
Your genius never left you
The light never burned out
The sad ending was the final reminder
Now they are sure to always remember
Free
Dear Michael,
It is June, and a year has passed today
The months have been long and sad
Since your beautiful soul left that day
For the past five decades
The world was a better place
Blessed, were all of us
By your presence and grace
But you were too good
For this cruel abode
And so you left
Leaving us cold in a daze
Yet every time I gaze
At the starry night
At clouds in the sky
Feel every passing breeze
I come to realize
Your wonder never left
Your legacy is still felt
In our hearts you live
Free, and soaring high
And our love for you
Will never die.
