i hope one day they will make it permeant with more songs in the future. shoutout to the estate for trying. in my opinion they could of done better but still a very awesome idea. i give them 4 in a half stars.

i agree with everyone else MJ tunes is way better then this and it's been up for years now. i hope the people of MJ tunes revamp their site. it's really needs to be updated. been like that since 06.

I notice with Ease on Down the Road it's not the one with Michael in it. i hope they add that to the set list in a few days before it's ends.

i notice when i talk about this they put the one with michael and diana the next day. that's good. i guess they heard my request.

There's gonna be another special with Rodney Jerkins on Tuesday with his playlist of Michael. it's starts at 7pm/et. the last day when the channel ends.

The channel is for one week on your vehicle radio and 1 month through the app. It may be permanent one of these days. This is a positive start. ?

Didn't listen too much today; most of what I heard was the same as before. I did hear "All You Need is Love" by The Beatles which is about the only new thing I heard. The "message music" special from Friday was repeated today.

Some random observations:
  • For the Wembley shows, they're definitely using the album versions, which sucks since that was edited to fit everything on one CD. At least they haven't played Rock With You from that edited album; the omission of Michael's long note at the end is a sin.
  • Speaking of live stuff, they seem to be omitting anything that was obviously lip-synced (i.e. MITM Wembley). Nothing from Dangerous or HIStory Tours either (where it was done more often).
  • Maybe I have bad timing but it appears none of the bonus tracks from Bad 25, Ultimate Collection or any previous special/anniversary editions have been played so far. No Fly Away, Al Capone, Sunset Driver, Someone Put Your Hand Out, We've Had Enough, etc. Pretty unfortunate omissions.
  • For the Xscape songs, I've only heard the "modernized" versions, none of the originals (Why do they bury those? Has the estate really not noticed the nostalgia trip people have been on for the past decade not just with Michael but with ANYTHING in pop culture?)
  • I haven't heard any of the fake/questionable songs from the Michael album once. That says a lot.
  • They're still plugging the Rodney Jerkins King of Pop Playlist special that will be played on Tuesday at 7PM Eastern/4PM Pacific. I know there's been some controversy about him lately but it'll be good to hear some stories.
  • If this was a permanent station we'd probably get more stories and perhaps even more songs. Really wish there was more, but that's probably cause I'm spoiled by my own collection lol.
  • The in-between segment where Ivory talks about Michael warming up and how sessions would be cancelled because he threw his voice out is pretty cute.
Ivory: "They would have to cancel the session"
Michael: (doing warm-up singing) "No-no-no-no-no-no-no-noooo~" XD

The channel is for one week on your vehicle radio and 1 month through the app. It may be permanent one of these days. This is a positive start. 😉

I agreed. i hope it can be permanent one day. nice way to start. i hope they can get more songs etc.

I agreed they need to play more songs like play the whole thriller album or play some anniversary songs etc. i cut it some slack because it only limited of time.

  • For the Xscape songs, I've only heard the "modernized" versions, none of the originals (Why do they bury those? Has the estate really not noticed the nostalgia trip people have been on for the past decade not just with Michael but with ANYTHING in pop culture?)

Ask and ye shall receive: they played the original version of Slave to the Rhythm a bit ago. Now if they could play the original Place With No Name I'll be very happy.

Also heard Goin' Places (very underrated Jacksons song IMO), I Just Can't Stop Loving You (from Wembley... really awkward to hear it end so suddenly and not move into She's Out of My Life right afterwards), and a new (?) station ID which had some audio of a woman giving a speech saying she's tired of black people getting murdered (or something along those lines) spliced with some clips from TDCAU.

I signed up for the trial. It seems it has a lot of repeats but I don't mind. The last time I actively listened to satellite radio Sirius and XM were still separate, but I've heard a little bit here and there. I think this is a good idea especially for those who don't know his music too well.

Listened to Rodney Jerkins King of Pop Playlist special. Here's the songs he played and the stories/cliffnotes he gave for each one:

  • You Rock My World - Described how he played the beat of this for Michael and how happy he was to see Michael dance to it. Watching Michael record the song choked him up.
  • Rock With You - This (and I think all of the OTW record, if I'm understanding him right) is what inspired him to be a producer. Blew him away how the song could be so emotional and make you dance at the same time.
  • Billie Jean - Memorable bassline that everyone knows.
  • Unbreakable - Michael wanted a rapper on this, and he said he wanted Biggie Smalls. Rodney told him Biggie wasn't around and Michael said he knew, but that Biggie was the best voice for the song.
  • Threatened - Similar story to Unbreakable: Michael wanted a rapper that wasn't around, except in this case it wasn't an actual rapper, it was Rod Sterling (host of the original Twilight Zone series). Rodney didn't do it at first because he wasn't sure, but when Michael insisted, Rodney realized he was being challenged. He then went through hours of Twilight Zone VHS tapes finding words/clips to use for the rap and brought in the guy who did the rap on Heartbreaker and Invincible to help out. When he played the rap for Michael, he smiled and said "You did it! This is what I wanted!" Rodney realized that Michael was pushing him to his limit and praises his artistic genius.
  • Wanna Be' Startin' Something - Wanted to play something happy that will make people dance
  • Another Part of Me - He brought up how Michael's music appeals to everyone, and how his (Rodney's) kids always want to listen to Michael. Whenever he asks them what song they want to hear, they pick this first. Mentioned how they play this when going to Disneyland and how it reminds them of Captain EO.
  • PYT - Cool story with this one. After Invincible was done Rodney went to work on Monica's next album. She wanted to sample PYT on her album so Rodney got in touch with Michael to get permission. Not only did Michael give the OK, but he actually sent the original reel-to-reel tape of the song for Rodney to work with. He mentions during this segment how he really misses Michael (we all do!).
  • Don't Stop Til You Get Enough - Rodney states this is (was? can't recall) his favorite song of all time, and one that he wishes he produced. Mentions the demo of this song that's out there.
  • The Way You Make Me Feel - The rhythm of this song was unlike anything Michael did on his previous records, and ended up making a memorable song out of it. Rodney mentions how historic/iconic the video was.
  • Remember the Time - Rodney's favorite Teddy Riley-produced MJ song. He talks about how Teddy was his mentor and the one that introduced him to Michael. Rodney told Michael he was going to produce for him someday and Michael said "anything is possible". The Soul Train Award performance of this song was also mentioned, how Michael gave it his all despite having to sit down for the whole thing.
  • Not a song, but Rodney mentioned before the next song that Michael was so inspiring that he wanted to get into a studio and create right now!
  • Human Nature - The first Michael Jackson song Rodney ever heard. He grew up in a very religious household and was not allowed to listen to secular music. He heard Human Nature playing in a mall during a family trip, and after hearing it he went and got all the MJ music he could get. Said he had to sneak any secular music he got so he wouldn't get in trouble.
  • We've Had Enough - This was a surprise! Great way to end the list. Rodney says it was written in 1999. Says that back then they had no idea how relevant this song would be in a few years, with all the hurt, anger and disappointment going on today. Encourages the listeners to listen to the lyrics. I hope they all do.
  • Show ends with Rodney saying how much Michael means to him and what a good friend he was. He misses Michael but his music will live on. He wishes everyone to be safe and to enjoy the music Michael gave us, and thanks the listeners for tuning in.

All in all, a good playlist. It mixes some of the essential MJ songs with some stuff that may not be well-known by the general public or casual fan. The anecdotes were cool too. So glad they ended on We've Had Enough (which I mentioned earlier as not having been played... I'm starting to think the Sirius XM guys are reading this forum lol).

That's really good they played a rare MJ song. i was just thinking about that song as well how much it goes with what's going on now. i remember a week ago when i said they didn't play erase on down the road with michael and diana and they did a few days later after i said that. chances are they probably are looking at this forum. lol! but i thank them for that. :D

love akon. too bad i won't be able to see it.

it's a common misconception that 'wanna be startin' somethin' is a happy song, as Rodney jerkins stated.

it's only the last quarter of the song that becomes uplifting. Michael spends the majority of the time being tormented. it was the first time that he expressed how hurt he was by gossip and lies. yet he did it in a way that was accessible, fun and unique at the same time.

he rides the rhythm with his high flexible tone at lightning speed. backed up by lively choir who are transformed from his naysayers to his cheering section.

the itchy, calypso inspired groove, constantly builds throughout and leads to a euphoric conclusion. which gives it an international flavour.

I find it to be his most compelling piece :)

Meant to post this last night but my internet died right before I could. Gotta love it when service providers have a scheduled maintenance and don't tell their customers about it. -_-

Well that's good. is the channel over?

There was an ad they kept playing between songs that said the channel will continue to be available on the Sirius XM app and streaming devices (i.e. Amazon Alexa) until August 14th (I think it was the 14th). So I imagine anyone with a dedicated satellite radio is now cut off from it. It still works in my web browser so that's also an option to anyone that still wants to listen.

Heard some new stuff last night... a Whitney Houston song, Mariah Carey's cover of I'll Be There, Can't Touch This by MC Hammer, My Prerogative by Bobby Brown, and the Jackson 5 Medley and Rock With You from the Wembley show. Although Rock With You has the awesome ending cut off because it's the album version, so boo on that. Just because I said it wasn't played doesn't mean it SHOULD be played. =P

As Akon announced in his Tweet above, there will be another King of Pop Playlist special for Friday. Wish I could've broken that news here first but nope... stupid internet and working all day prevented me from getting online at all until just now. >.

oh wow. i guess they deicide to let the channel stay up until 14th. could this means something? probably not but it pretty cool they letting it stay up for another few weeks.

hope everyone enjoy.

Akon's King of Pop playlist special just ended. Here's the rundown:

  • It's ya boy Akon! I think he was doing a video stream elsewhere because he said “You can see all this behind me” or something along those lines. He sounds pretty excited to be here.
  • Was a huge fan of MJ as a kid, goes on about how MJ influenced him and is the reason why he got into music.
  • Wanna Be Startin Something (Remix) – Akon says this is from “Thriller Remastered”, but I think he meant Thriller 25. MJ offered Akon the chance to do this remix and Akon jumped on it. (personal opinion/rant: I knew this was gonna be played because... well, Akon's hosting, but man, I am not a fan of this remix)
  • Hold My Hand – Akon thinks everyone needs to hear this right now because of what's going on in the world. He says that was his and Michael's intention with this song: for everyone to come together. We should all come together because no matter what, we're humans and should stand as one.
  • Thriller – No special notes for this from Akon, although I have realized that every time I've heard this song on this channel, the intro is cut. It starts at around the 37 second mark (the first time the synths go DA-DAAAAAA, DA-DA-DA).
  • Billie Jean – Akon called this a banger and how cool it was in the video when Michael's walking down the sidewalk in the video and it lights up
  • Human Nature – Says he about to go into all his favorites (wait, he wasn't doing that already?). Calls this a sexy record.
  • Rock With You – No real special notes on this either
  • The Way You Make Me Feel – Or as Akon calls it, “The Way You Makin' Me Feel”, and he feels good right now!
  • PYT – Akon says this is for all the PYTs out there. Seems Akon favors the Thriller era stuff quite heavily (nothing wrong with that though)
  • Don't Stop Til You Get Enough – We about to get crazy and we all haven't had enough so let's gooooo~! (did I mention Akon sounded excited?)
  • The Lady in My Life – Akon thanks Sirius XM for recognizing Michael, and dedicates this song to all the beautiful ladies out there. Maybe my memory is bad but I think this is the first time I've heard this song on here. Too bad it's not the version with the second verse (why is that version buried?). When this ended he said Michael has that voice that makes them all drop (I'm assuming they = women, which... well he's not wrong lol).
  • Smooth Criminal – Wanted to end on a banger, says Michael was a real “G” and quite gangsta but not many people seem to know that.
  • Akon thanks everyone for tuning in and thanks Sirius XM again for recognizing Michael. Says we have to keep Michael's legacy alive because he influenced half the music industry.

Overall, a decent playlist special, albeit one that's very biased towards pre-Dangerous songs. Not very many stories like there was with Rodney Jerkins, but as a playlist it's another nice "essential" list.

In my opinion Steven Ivory had the best playlist. but shoutout to Rodney Jerkins and Akon. oh yeah, thanks Akon for playing Smooth Criminal and The Lady in My Life i don't think the lady in my life every been played since the channel started so that good a different song was played.

love Smooth Criminal that's my jam and my theme for michael.

Just now finished going through the Jacksons' King of Pop Playlist Special. I had a therapy session so I couldn't listen to this live, but I was able to record it (thank the internet for Audacity) and listen to it/skip songs (a sin, I know, but they'll always be there).

  • Marlon, Tito and Jackie hosted this special. They're broadcasting from their homes. Jackie is at his home in Lake Las Vegas and has been spending time with his family, Tito is also at his home in Vegas and has been working on cars in his garage, and Marlon says he's been wearing gloves and masks when he goes out and encourages everyone to do the same.
  • I Want You Back is the first song. Jackie says he remembers recording this song and that when he heard it on the radio he pulled over to listen to it. It sounded so different from how it sounded in the studio that he really wanted to hear it. Tito recalls their neighbor from across the street running over and telling them they were on the radio. It was like magic. Marlon says when he first heard the song he was on the moon (??? I've listened to this numerous times and really don't know what else he could be saying), and the engineers brought back a moon light for him that played the song. They had never had a record on the radio before so they were jumping around “like popcorn” over their song being on the radio (AM radio, that is).
  • ABC – Tito says that the second time getting a hit song is always harder than the first, but this one managed to take off and be a bit hit. Jackie loves how little kids can get into this song since it's kind of educational and families can dance to it, and they're still doing that to this day. Marlon likes the line “I before E except after C” because it actually teaches kids something, and says the trumpet in this song is a bit nasty and has a groove to it. They had no idea this was going to be a number one hit.
  • I'll Be There – Marlon introduces this song, says it's their biggest selling record of all time and their first ballad. Tito says this is one of his favorites, and not only was it the Jackson 5's biggest selling song, but Motown Record's biggest seller as well. He talks about how Mariah Carey covered the song and that she even included Michael's ad-libs from the song in her version as well. Tito states it's a song that's known by multiple generations of people and is a great song. Jackie says they would get tears in their eyes when recording this because of how heartfelt Michael's singing was, and how amazing his ad-libs were. People in the studio went crazy over them! (confession: I actually did take time to listen to this, and I burst into tears. That's... never happened to me with this song before).
  • Can You Feel It? – Jackie says he was leaving a friend's house one day and had a melody in his head that eventually became the trumpets in the song. He hummed it into a tape recorder and played it for Michael, and Michael asked Jackie if he could write the song with him, which Jackie allowed. He comments on the video and how it was about peace, harmony and bringing people together, which is what the song itself is about, and is a message that's still very important today.
Tito claims this was a very proud song, since it was their biggest hit since Motown. He reiterates what Jackie says about the message in the song, how it's important today with all the confusion and civil rights. The song is about how we are all one blood and should spread love. Tito feels the song will never die as it's an anthem for peace. Marlon knew when they were recording this song that it was special, because of the energy and spirit it had. Says Michael came up with the idea for the music video, which is about unifying the world. That's what the Jackson 5/Jacksons have been about since day one: bringing people together through their music. After the song Marlon comments that the song brings back so many memories, which Jackie and Tito agree with.
  • Shake Your Body Down to the Ground – Jackie says when he first heard this he knew this would get people dancing. It's still popular today because it still gets people wanting to dance! Tito says this was written during the disco era, and that they were excited about it because it had the elements people loved. He knew it would be popular because it has that dance beat and people love to dance. Marlon tells a brief story about how they wanted to get different horns for the song, so they met up with a guy named “Tom Tom” Eddie Ford (I think that his name). He wrote the horn section of the song, and the horn section from the band Earth, Wind and Fire played the horns on the song. The Jacksons couldn't wait for this song to come out because they loved it so much!
  • I Wanna Be Where You Are – Jackie gushes about how the song is so heartfelt and can still be danced to. He remembers recording this in the studio and knowing it was going to be a hit. Tito agrees, says it was exciting, different, and the intro was so magical with the fuzz guitar. Compliments Michael's lead vocals and the brothers' backing vocals, says it's one of his favorites (seems to be saying that a lot of these are his favorites lol). Marlon chimes in saying that this is one of those special songs that's loved by many, and even says this was one of the first songs Beyonce learned to sing because her dad loved how Michael sang it.
  • Heartbreak Hotel – Jackie loves this one because it was a pretty different song for them with the jazz sound it has. Says jazz players love this song, and Jackie himself loves Michael's vocals and the string part at the end of the song. Him and Marlon talk a bit about how the album lists it as “This Place Hotel”; Marlon says they didn't want to get confused with publishing things because there was already another song called Heartbreak Hotel. He warns all the fellas out there not to sneak up on Heartbreak Hotel or they'll get heartbroken! Tito concludes this segment talking about how magical the bassline is and how if they have to replace a musician, the musician already knows this song so they don't have to be taught how to play it. He brings up the sound effects in the song, like the sound of people falling down the stairs and the screams (which he says was done by one of his sisters... as in one of the Jackson sisters, I assume. But which one?). Says it's a dramatic song and wishes there had been a video for it.
  • Billie Jean – Jackie introduces this as Michael's solo greatness, says it had a great beat and even today it makes people want to dance. Tito says Billie Jean was a true story; there was a die-hard Jackson fan (whom Tito doesn't know if she was mentally disturbed or not) who broke into the Jacksons' main home while it was being remodeled (the family was living elsewhere while the remodel was going on). She would sleep in one of their sisters' bedrooms and always ask the workers what they were doing there. She would always come up to the gate asking to be let into the house. Marlon compliments the song's bassline and how it makes you tap your feet. He likes the song because there's truth to it: there are Billie Jeans out there always looking for a baby daddy. Marlon says it's even happened to him (although it wasn't true)! He says people will relate to this song and go “yeah that's happened to me” and that this song will live forever.
  • Thriller – This one is also introduced by Jackie. He talks about how everyone loves this because of its horror theme and how it gets played a lot around Halloween. Praises the music video for being incredible. Tito brings up how the Vincent Price vocals at the end took it to another level and also praises the production quality of the video, and how no one had ever seen anything like that in a music video before. It really made people focus on Michael. Marlon talks about how Thriller scared a lot of kids, but that's what it was designed to do.
  • Man in the Mirror – Jackie emphasizes the message of this song: to stop blaming everybody else and take a look at yourself. He mentions how Siedah Garret wrote it and how everyone all over the world loves this song. When Michael sings this song it stays with you. Tito recalls hearing the song on the radio for the first time and how the lyrics stood out to him. Says this song had a great message and still has a great message even today; people were singing this song at some of the recent protests. Marlon agrees, saying it still resonates with people today, and that people need to look at themselves to make that change. Finishes by saying that songs with great lyrics live forever, and that we're blessed to have songs with positive messages in them.
  • Beat It – Tito leads on this one, says that Michael wrote this with the Crips and Bloods gangs in mind, and he was trying to tell them that they're fighting over stupid stuff; that no one is wrong or right. Marlon says that the video had actual members of the Crips and Bloods in it, and how amazing it was that the music brought the gangs together. Jackie mentions how they didn't fight at all and just enjoyed being in the video and taking pictures with everyone. Says that had never happened before with these two gangs.
  • Wanna Be Startin' Something – Jackie sings a bit of this, talks about how it's great to dance to, and that he knew this was going to be a hit. Tito agrees with Jackie, and points out the good message in this song. Jackie says he likes the “if you can't feed your baby, then don't have a baby” lyrics. Says back then and even today there's young folks having kids that shouldn't be having kids. You have to get married first and then you can have all the kids... like Jermaine did (they laugh over this)! No input from Marlon on this one (maybe his call dropped?).
  • After this the special was just... over. It went into a regular station ID and then another song. No goodbye from the brothers or anything. I don't think my stream cut out so I don't think it was a mistake. Sudden, rather cold ending, but I guess that's how it is.

An okay playlist special. This felt more like a Jackson 5/Jacksons playlist but I kinda expected that.

Another playlist special aired tonight, this time hosted by Wyclef Jean!

  • Was excited when he was offered the chance to host on this channel. Gives a shoutout to people staying at home and staying safe. Says his uncle and his wife's uncle died of the virus (RIP to them).
  • Wyclef says that MJ was a man who predicted the future, and always promoted love and peace
  • Beat It – Wyclef was obsessed with this song when it came out. He actually wanted to get a guitar cause he wanted to learn the solo so badly. After the song ends he says he's still dancing!
  • Billie Jean – He hopes you're still dancing because this is the next song! Says it's got a cold bass line. Says there were conspiracy theories about who Billie Jean was when this first came out.
  • Rock With You – One of Wyclef's favorite songs ever. Says if you got someone in your crib to get up, grab them and “rock with” them. He can't stop singing this one (and asks the listeners to sing a bit for him lol)!
  • Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough – Before playing this, Wyclef says he was excited to DJ on here because he actually got to meet Michael and work with him. Says this song takes him back to when he was breakdancing on the concrete.
  • Earth Song – Wyclef reflects on being in the studio with Michael a bit. He would feel real love whenever he was in the studio with Michael. The words Michael spoke were just full of love. Every four words Michael said to him had more love in them. Says Michael had a strong love for the environment and thinks this song reflects that. Encourages everyone listening to watch the video. His favorite part is when everything goes back to good, and that's what we need to happen now. Says Michael was ahead of his time with that video.
  • Thriller – Are you wearing your red zipper jacket? If not, you better put it on, because he's playing this song right now (interesting note, this one actually has the full intro!)! Wyclef remembers the countdowns that would play before an MJ video would premiere
  • They Don't Care About Us – Wyclef loves the original and remix of this (I assume he means the Olodum remix based on his next comment). Loves how Michael would travel all over the world and show us other countries and their people.
  • Black or White – He opens this song with a question: with all of Michael's songs playing back to back to back, are you seeing the constant themes Michael was conveying with his songs? I would hope the answer is obvious.
  • Man in the Mirror – Says every Michael song takes him back, including this one. Points out the “hee hee” during the bridge and invites listeners to guess the song. After the song he says that another trait of Michael's music is that everyone can sing along to his stuff.
  • Dirty Diana – This is his last tune. Wyclef has had an amazing time and encourages everyone to follow his social media. Talks about being a hip-hop guitarist... and I kinda lost focus for a bit so I don't know what else he said in relation to this. >.> Probably because I was typing the earlier bits and my keyboard is kinda loud lol.
  • Wyclef closes the show, says we laughed, cried and danced. Michael's music was about reminding us that we were human beings and we should love one another. Wyclef is out, love and peace!

Another good playlist. Glad to see the History album get some love. Wish Wyclef would have shared more stories about working with Michael, but that's how it is.
