The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

@arisenow would you mind sharing HQ versions of the already leaked snippets (Chorus and Pre-Chorus), I would love to mix the new snippet with the old ones into a small 2 min. track and blast it all day. Loren's best song IMO.
He's busy trying to get the duct tape off the magnetic tape so his Pentium powered rig can record and upload Unknown. I just hope his 56k connection can handle the upload...

It’s fascinating hearing songs that clearly inspired other songs. 7 Digits lead to D.S. And History. GYWOOM lead to Invincible and Privacy.
About GWYOOM, it never lead to Privacy since it predated it by a year, though since we don't really know the order in which the 2000-recorded songs were produced, you do make a good case for how GWYOOM could have potentially lead to Invincible.

Privacy predates GYWOOM?

I think Weight Off Me being similar to Invincible and Privacy is more of a testament as to how formulaic the Darkchild team was. There’s a track by So Plush where the bridge is basically identical to Invincible, he did this quite a bit lol

Privacy predates GYWOOM?
Yes, a demo of Privacy with LaShawn Daniels was shown off alongside other demos made in 1999 (Rock My World, We've Had Enough/Stop The War, Xscape, You Don't Love Me, etc.). Plus it, along with Rock My World, are the only songs (besides Unbreakable, which was explicitly produced in 2000) that don't follow the usual effects-heavy formula that songs like GYWOOM (at least in the bridge) or Heartbreaker do.

Does anyone have any information about 'Hot Fun In The Summertime (with D'Angelo)? Is it circulating by any chance? I'm quite excited for that one.

There has to be another version from 1996/97 sessions.
Actually, there's a 1998 Black + White magazine interview where Bryan Loren reveals he started work on 7 Digits for BOTDF before Michael told him that he was going to choose Superfly Sister instead.

What do you think of “Superfly Sister” compared to the other songs you recorded with Michael?
“Superfly Sister” has always been one of my favorite songs. Originally, he wanted to include a different track on his album. The track in question hadn't even been recorded yet; it was just an idea we had. The song was “Seven Digits.” I even started working on it. When Michael called me, I had already begun arranging the instrumentation. Ultimately, though, we abandoned the track because Michael didn't have the time to record the vocals. He was working on other songs at the same time.

Originally, originally it was Seven Digits. Originally it was In The Back, which was being worked on for some time, before it then ended up being Superfly Sister.

From last years auction

7 Digits (15:53) - Early writing session version - (Never heard. Never leaked). Song is on both sides of the cassette. Side B is a continuation of Side A. This is the first version of 7 Digits. MJ is writing the song as he sings on this, so there are several takes of the song with MJ playing with lyrical ideas. He hadn't come up with the theme of “7 Digits" yet on these early takes. But, the music is the same as his final “7 Digits" song. In between takes, MJ is talking to Bryan in the studio directing him on music ideas.
Doesn’t have the “still I’m scared of you part” and it just keeps going on like the snippet that leaked for 10 minutes. Same melody, just different mumbles (5 minutes is blank audio)

I remember the day BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR was announced in the spring of 1997. I remember the original tracklist showing IN THE BACK as track 3. It was even on the old EPIC website at that time. During the time the announcement was made and release date for the release the track changed to SUPERFLY SISTER but I always clearly remember IN THE BACK in the original announcement and press release.
This is the earliest record I can find saying "In the Back" was to be on Blood on the Dance Floor; it's a Russian Usenet post dated April 2, 1997:

Please read the previous messages/look at the context
In the back should’ve been on it instead of superfly sister.
He meant he wished it was on there instead of Superfly Sister, I literally said in the message above that In The Back was being worked on and selected before Superfly Sister was chosen instead. The "No way" is my disagreement with his opinion

Completely legit, it sounds the same as what I've heard during the Bryan Loren Seminar in 2016. Vocals are quite impressive and sounds similar to "Cheater". The lyrics aren't complete, he's mostly mumbling but in a really powerful way. My biggest favourite unheard track from the Bryan Loren sessions.

"The final versions should be reserved for the estate for their projects"

I highly doubt the current estate is interested in releasing any Loren tracks. They've made this clear by rejecting Loren's offer to help to fix his songs.

The guy gave me the snippet (wasn't it only like 7 seconds?) to prove it was really MJ etc. To go any further with the sale etc it was a total no go.
Would you mind telling me in a PM who wants to sell these recordings? I won't post any names online or pass them on, but since I already saw the recent wave of leaks coming and I love nothing more than researching and discussing unreleased music with insiders, I'd love to get in touch.

I added the snippet to my Bryan Loren tribute at the last minute - I was told it was already out there, just not on YouTube yet. Apparently, this isn't the case, as I've read here and as some people have pointed out to me.
