The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

For If you Don't Love Me, I think it needs an even breezier, lighter instrumentation. It needs to go full bubblegum pop.
 
One of the most fascinating bits from the Faking Michael podcast to me is how "Water" might have been inspired by a cover of a song from the 1930's called "Cool Water", and honestly I can see some parallels with it. Maybe this could give us an idea on how the verses would've sounded like?

It's actually a good evolution of his songwriting; just this one hook is catchy in a way stuff hasn't been aside from his biggest hits: Shake Your Body, WBSS, Beat It, Human Nature, Remember The Time, Smooth Criminal, Black or White, Billie Jean.

I love most everything else but it was oftentimes more complex. Still catchy. But this one, it really would've been up there, it, and Hollywood Tonight.

Indeed; I’m especially curious to see how MJ’s music from that time period holds up to today’s stuff in terms of production.
 
I don't think Water is a bad song, in fact I like how you can notice new sounds the more you listen to it (it took me a lot of listens to hear that synth choir) but it isn't really my thing. Honestly I'm starting to grow tired with the way that all the music we got from the 2000's so far are ballads, I'm dying to hear something from that era that has more intensity. I need angry voice.

If I had to choose between listening to this song or listening a song like Rocker, Dark Lady (not sure if this one is uptempo but from the descriptions it seems like it might be) or any of the RedOne tracks I'd go for those anytime.

One of their best decisions methinks. Keep Pharrell and his Fisher Price keyboard as far away from anything MJ as possible.

Yeah I guess it was meant to sound like a Motown/Phil Sspector-type track, maybe the Dap Kings could help out

IMO, I think a lot of the newer stuff from the 2000's does sound folky. More focused on melody's and ballads. Which is why I would love to hear the Will.I.Am stuff, because they seemed like they working more on uptempo dance floor stuff.
 
I remember how Travis3000 or something heard these songs before anyone was talking about them on MJJC around 2017ish. He/She said the production is unique and it was instrumentation that had distinct sounds that had never been done before. So far judging from this Water snippet it doesnt really feel like that maybe i need to hear the whole thing

Is Water a complete song or another mumbled verses with full chorus demo?

not what i was expecting, still think it's better than the 2010 mixes but i would have preferred something closer to the original demo

I didn't even know that. I wasn't even ready for that possibility back then (plus I'm sure she was some kind of mod) . I just couldn't believe there were multiple users on this board who was so sure it was him, and the voice was as alien to me as if Cyndi Lauper was singing it.

I don't know her/their intent, but being gaslit (intentional or not) was so frustrating that I just had to leave.
