The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

I turned this off halfway through. Gonna listen to Another Part Of Me straight from the 1987 Vinyl. Immaculate quality.

Another Part of Me Truthers stay winning
First off, korgnex’s mix sounded not very good. Second, the leak is a WIP, and the transfer was not done very well. Third, APOM and SW should’ve been on the album, JGF shouldn’t have been

And before you shit on Streetwalker ‘87 again, MixedByLucas made a version with elements from the 1988 version and the 1986 demo that basically shows what the finished westlake version sounds like, maybe. I just extended the final outro to be as long as the final outro on Streetwalker ‘88. All credit goes to MixedByLucas on YT

You leave JGF alone.
Dude the only reason JGF was even on the album was because Quincy wanted a collab with another high profile artist, but then even HE admitted that it was a mistake, but the collab was already finished so they couldn’t leave it off. I’m not saying it’s a bad song, I really like it, but it sounds too similar to APOM and it feels too, idk, generic?

I think it’s one of the more interesting songs from a purely compositional standpoint.

Just Good Friends sounds similar to Another Part Of Me?
Got it… :ROFLMAO:

Hmm 'Just Good Friends' was really the best choice for 'Bad':

A duet in the same line as 'The Girl Is Mine', with another musical legend, who had a hit with a duet before ('Ebony & Ivory') and with one MJ's favorite artists..
Plus the vocals are amazing.

There is nothing that can replace it imo: 'Streetwalker' sounds too similar to 'TWYMMF' for instance

Does anyone know anything about the song "Hot Fever"? Is it the same as "The Way You Make Me Feel"? Or does it have different lyrics?

I find it curious that if it's the same song, it has a different title.
Same track, TWYMMF was referred to as "Hot Fever" even past the demo stage. There's actually a Bad tour photo where it's called "Hot Fever" on the setlist lol.

SW loses steam and becomes repetitive by the second chorus. Cheater as a Stevie duet is the only demo I feel could've replaced JGF while maintaining the albums pace.

They made the right choice to discard SW early in production

I've seen a lot of comments over the years say that "Get It" is better than "Just Good Friends" too.

So many unwell people online.

this supposedly a slightly different mix owned by Brad. It has an alternate outro, although it could just be Brad's edit or whatever, although I'm inclined to believe its a slightly different mix, as the outro also has some very hard to hear ad libs not present in any of the versions that leaked
same exact one, just edited

Streetwalker wasn’t discarded til atleast 2 weeks before the album released. It wasn’t discarded early

It was a contender almost to the very end in early July 1987.

The final tape was as follows for the album, from 9th July: https://www.facebook.com/al.quaglie...http_ref=eyJ0cyI6MTc3MjcwNDgwNzAwMCwiciI6IiJ9

Brad’s tape (made 12th August) does not necessarily count as a different album sequence in that sense. More of a personal sequence of songs to listen to on cassette.

It's so interesting reading discourse regarding "fixing" the Bad album tracklist from my pov since I consider it not only the best MJ album but one of (if not the) the best albums of all time. Always viewed it as a 10/10

Leave Me Alone should not have been CD only. It should've replaced JGF and have been the last song on the vinyl album.

My only beef with Bad is that it made no room for "Fly Away", it's my favorite outtake and imo it's one of the rare few vaulted tracks that manages to rival plenty of songs that MJ put out on his albums. It's a total disservice to the song that it only ever made its way into re-issues, it doesn't get the proper spotlight it deserves. It should've at least been included as a bonus track on the album.

I like Fly Away, but like Lovin' You and Groove of Midnight, it just doesn't fit the album. Sonically, it just doesn't push it enough.

Sometimes I wish the Bad album was delayed into 1988 where it was more common to sequence an album on CD (and thus release its vinyl counterpart on two LP's).

Agree - I love listening to Bad on vinyl but get frustrated at the lack of Leave Me Alone since it’s one of my favourites.

If it was up to me Leave Me Alone would replace Just Good Friends, with Streetwalker as the CD only bonus track

I wonder if 'Changes' was based on 'Cheater' (same melody) and, if so, if it's verses would be sound somewhat similar

That's one of the things I hold against MJ: he should have released the outtakes as B-sides to the singles... He made a lot of songs that didn't fit on an album, but were excellent. Releasing them as B-sides could have been a solution...

Old habits die hard I suppose. The Jackson 5 and Jacksons used album tracks/edits as b-sides too.

It seems to me like more singles would have sold if it had a "b-side" NOT already available on previous or current albums. This seems like a no brainer to me.

Indeed, maybe the stronger of the outtakes could have been released on B-sides.

I get the feeling he was not a B-sides person, that he did not want to waste good songs on a B-side if he thought they had potential for the next album.
Bit like Streetwalker, which was a finished song for Bad, but Michael had other ideas so he got Bill Bottrell to create a version and that later evolved into Dangerous (to cut a long story short).

He was always one for releasing high-quality & high standard material for his liking, and B-sides probably were not the place for it. He chose final songs with the view of them as potential singles & not B-sides.
Plus, would have taken ages for him to finish another unfinished song for a B-side anyhow amid a full-on promotional campaign & tour.
