The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

It's the most commercial - totally complete - unreleased song that we have access to IMO. If anything, I would have expected the Estate to hold off on it and capitalise on the (hopeful) success of the movie to launch a follow up with new projects.

IF "Michael" achieves the same kind of success that Bohemian Rhapsody did, it would be the best (and likely last) chance MJ would have at getting a #1 single or album. Then again, if Hot Street IS featured in the film and during a scene that could be considered a "highlight" it could also shoot up the charts.
Based on everything we've seen so far, there'd be no way they don't try for a music release to coincide imo.

Things I wish for the rest of the decade:

2026 - Biopic, Soundtrack/Album -> Single release, Invincible MoFi[, please release Victory Tour it would sell like crazy after the biopic]
2027 - Bad MoFi, Bad Short Film in true 4K (Man In The Mirror, Another Part Of Me upscaled), HIStory MoFi
2028 - Blood On The Dance Floor MoFi
2029 - Off The Wall 50 (Boxset - Beatles-like: Remastered Album, Demos, previously released 7"/12" versions and remixes)[, please release a concert I don't have much hope but please do and do proper remasters of the short films, not AI upscaled]

I'll collapse if this film does not have a scene that contains or alludes to Branca's involvement with the ATV catalogue purchase - so I was wondering what other famous musicians COULD have a cameo / blink and you'll miss / face absolutely obscured appearance like U2 and Bowie in Bohemian Rhapsody.

I'd imagine Macca, Stevie and Lionel would be my "educated" guesses as to who COULD have actual dialogue and not just a fly-by scene.
Before the scene with Branca, there was supposed to be a scene with Paul, who gave him the idea:

I’m incredibly proud of Jafaar Jackson. He is the absolute embodiment of Michael Jackson.
From the smallest movements to the mannerisms…the precision of his dance…the way he carries himself…the feeling he brings to every moment. Nothing feels forced. Nothing feels exaggerated. He didn’t imitate Michael…he understood him.
Having worked with Michael for many years, I know how rare it is to capture his spirit with that level of authenticity and respect. There truly couldn’t have been a better choice!
Seeing Michael brought to life this way makes me smile…and it makes me feel proud!

Seems likely that at least "Hot Street" is getting a release. It's gonna be such a let down for me if that's all they end up releasing, I know the Estate has no fault that the song leaked, and I don't expect them to release a full album but I hope they'll put out at least 1 or 2 extra songs that are unheard. It's been a 12 full years since their last music release (I don't count Thriller 40 since it was a half-assed re-issue) so I hope there's something there that'll come as a surprise for the fans.

I'm imagining Q telling Michael to keep still, and then Hot Street comes on and he starts dancing in the recording studio. That could be the music video.

I don't think a short scene were they discuss the tracklist of Thriller and mention Hot Street would "alienate" anyone.
It would just be completely out of place. A distraction from the many things they could be talking about. They're going to struggle for length as it is, without trying to pack it with trivia.

It would even make sense to tease Hot Street in the movie if they plan to release it as a single.
Oof. That would be cheap and nasty.

This is a biopic, not part of a big marketing campaign. There's a very big difference. Not everything has to be about trying to get a #1 single.

Your not an executor of the Mj estate or an heir of Michael Jackson
No. And I don't need to be. This movie shouldn't have anything to do with the "executors". It should be made by people who are good at making biopics.

hence the 1994 settlement doesn’t apply to you.
Thank you.

What are the chances of the final trailer featuring Hot Street and the song being released as the lead single
Oof. That would be pretty disgusting, and in bad taste.

They'd be better off saving the new songs for a new song album.

Most biopics are just marketing. nothing else. they are there so the general public regains interest in the artist.

So showing the process of michael making music and albums is a distraction? Isn't that what part of the movie should about?

Actually, Michael wanted it on the album. Quincy and Rod favored Baby Be Mine.
Q and Rod made the right choice. Baby Be Mine compliments the album and helps solidify the overall flow.

I don’t hate Hot Street it’s a pretty good song but it doesn’t need to ever be a single. Slap it on some compilation album and I’m sure people will like enjoy it. I personally have only listened to it a few times it’s not anything that makes me want to put it on repeat. I’d also expect it we get a new single it will be a song that has never leaked.

Baby Be Mine was the right choice indeed, but Hot Street definitely deserves a single release

Hot Street is the song that'd make the most sense. It's one of the few complete enough tracks and it was worked on around the time the film seems to be centred around.

I still kinda doubt they're gonna release it though. I don't think it being on the notes in the teaser means anything other than it being something for fans to notice and go "oh cool".

Hopefully I'm wrong and they're gonna do something to go along with it.

I agree, although the theme is profound Hot Street sounds pretty mediocre melodically. And it doesnt make sense to do any unreleased songs in the biopic; it's hard already to feature most of his hits

Agreed. Who's going to come out humming "Hot Street" when MITM is likely to be the last scene. Even if it's played in the credits, no one is going to come out of any officially licensed MJ film thinking "wow, I cant get that unreleased song out of my head" when it's unleashed alongside Don't Stop, Billie Jean, Beat It, MITM etc.

Yeah, it wouldn't really make sense to have it in the actual movie, imo. I guess they could have a few seconds of it or something, but it would be pretty pointless other than something for fans to notice.

If Hot Street gets relessed as a single, I guess it won't be played in the movie any longer than 20-30 seconds.

However, I can imagine Sony/Epic sending the song along with an EPK to radio stations the week the biopic hits theaters.

Why? Just suppose back in 1982 Billie Jean would have been left aside in favor of Hot Street; would you still feel the same, BJ's not modern enough?
BJ is timeless

None of the previous MJ singles have done much since his death , needs to be reworked if we want a hit
