The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

There will be a part 2 and it will be clear within less than a month.
How are they so confident in greenlighting a sequel given how they are moving currently? I have heard that Universal was reluctant to properly promote this movie, the Estate and Lionsgate are doing the usual minimum effort job, and a true worldwide promotion hasn't even started yet. Are they confident that this movie will make billions off his name alone? Because so far they haven't done anything of the "unprecedented" promotion they promised. Many don't even know this movie exists. Sorry to be harsh but as you already know, many want the best out of this movie, both when it comes to reception and performance and currently neither is guaranteed.

They will get some egg on their face if this film is a flop and no second movie gets the go ahead.

There are so many iconic songs they purposely left off this first film 😬

according to Lionsgate's own narrative, they wanted to make sure that the first movie was profitable before greenlighting the sequel. Now they already talking about confidently greenlighting one. Isn't it a bit premature? I know that the early access tickets in big US cities are doing well, but I don't think this movie is having as much resonance outside of fandom spaces as it should. I hope I am wrong. I don't expect Nolan/Marvel/Barbie style of promotion for Michael Jackson but dropping a couple of posters, a Spotify playlist and a few HBCU marching band videos isn't the promotion I am expecting from a movie many projected to touch the billion dollar. I thought Lionsgate/Universal were a little less sloppy than the MJ estate oh well

and I want to stress is that *if* this movie flop it will be entirely the fault of these entities and their inability to fully realize the potential of such a beloved and still hugely discussed legacy artist whose MAIN fanbase is currently made of gen z and gen alpha people

I wanna hit this Chuck guy with a broom over his head and ask him if he thinks that everybody thought „This Is It“ was such great release that the formula should be applied now again!

His answers are always worthy of a good
🧹🧹🧹 helping!

Maybe a future chuck answer is:
„Well, there are three fake songs on this new compilation of unreleased material, because it’s actually similar to our 2010 album project of unreleased material.“ 💀👻👾

and one last thing I'll say then I'll stop caring about this movie and all its ramifications for good. and at this point, as a fan, why should i care about the success of this movie? its profit isn't going for new projects/deals/releases/concert films or whatever, is going to buy John Branca's next lamborghini. at this point maybe if it flops the silver lining is that it will send a message to the lizard who currently sits on Michael's wealth that he can't piggybank off the man's name forever.

Have you guys seen the popcorn bucket? Apart from the soundtrack this is all so exciting.. so glad Michael is back on the world stage where he belongs.. just wish it was the man himself but I hope he is proud of Jaafar + team wherever he is up there watching over it all!

Guys, when the MTV special thing about the biopic was announced MJ fans came out on twitter and comment sections with a full scale war against MTV saying they have not forgotten MTV turned its back on MJ and cancelled him etc (Removed the name of his award) etc after Leaving Neverland.

Why on earth would MJ fans choose to put the focus from positive PR thing via MTV about the biopic to the whole comment section being filled with comments that reminds of the allegations? Its literally insanity! Some people might not even be aware of the allegations and start looking it up. On top of that nobody making decisions on MTV are going be affected by MJ fans commenting on social media anyways.

There is a time and place to defend MJ - this was not it at all! We have to be smart and people or companies that are coming back onto the MJ bandwagon should be left alone and not hounded by MJ fans!

This reminds me of how MJ fans are trying to get back at the Estate for the fake tracks telling people to boycott Michael Jackson products & shows to get revenge against the Estate - while its hurting the Michael Jackson brand overall! Can we just for once try and enjoy the ride instead of constantly seeking to avenge the past?

Sorry for the rant, but I just think its so frustrating! And yes, this was made in the biopic thread as the MTV thing was related to it :)

just a companion, not a score, not a soundtrack, and you can definitely look forward to the next few announcements.

Here's one: Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible are being reissued on standard black Vinyl soon

I assume you're just making assumptions seeing as the estate have confirmed there is no more announcements to come regarding a proper soundtrack or anything of the sort.

Nope fck MTV!

Is there a reason that those of you who have doubts, a million redundant questions and a negative outlook on the biopic don't just shut up about it and move on to something else.

The constant complaining and dooms day predictions are really draining

I can't imagine devoting so much time and energy talking about something I don't support.

Yeah right, you're going to keep whinging on about it and you know it.

and at this point, as a fan, why should i care about the success of this movie? its profit isn't going for new projects/deals/releases/concert films or whatever
Right cause it's all about you and whats coming out(or not) to please you...

, is going to buy John Branca's next lamborghini.
Or........it will go to Michael's children and grandchildren,

And branca can buy a lamborghina whether you support the estates projects or not.

at this point maybe if it flops the silver lining is that it will send a message to the lizard who currently sits on Michael's wealth that he can't piggybank off the man's name forever.
Yes because sticking it to branca is more important that Michael's legacy and brand being successful. Just boycott all MJ stuff, that will show him!

The mood has certainly shifted after the release of the tracklist, that's for certain. I'm sure it will swing back (no doubt) but this is an abysmal release. Isn't Number Ones consistently in the top 30 in many countries each week?

Can u blame us??! With the why the estate have been handling stuff!

Part 2 hasn't been confirmed officially, although a lionsgate exec described Michael as "clearly a part 1" or something along those lines (not the exact quote).
What they meant was "were going to say just enough to keep it ambiguous, because we want people to stop criticising us".

The issue people have is that this is all the album versions already released many times over, when we know there are several live performances in the film. It took me 2 minutes to create the album on Spotify as it will be released.
That's not an "issue". That you can create it in 2 mins is a positive thing. It means you can safely ignore the release. Why would anybody want to be suckered into buying an album just for one song? That's dumb.

The unusual thing with that soundtrack, is for a film that is like 2 hours 10 minutes (I think) there's not that much music really. I was expecting most of it to be performances
No, because it's a BIOPIC.

Like, you understand it's not a concert film, right?

Right??

Are they confident that this movie will make billions off his name alone?
Wow, four times in three replies. You certainly like the word "billion", don't you?

Many don't even know this movie exists
Weren't we saying yesterday that the movie was third on some list of eagerly anticipated movies?

many want the best out of this movie, both when it comes to reception and performance
Meh. **** reception. **** performance. Quality is the only thing that matters. Why is nobody talking about that?

Is there a reason that those of you who have doubts, a million redundant questions and a negative outlook on the biopic don't just shut up about it and move on to something else.
Because discussion board.

Actually, last month I don't think it was. It's only in the charts this week because Sony decided it was.

But yeah, you do touch on an important point. This release is entirely redundant, and all it will do is create confusion and detract from the sales of Number Ones, Essential, Icon, HIStory, Definitive, TUC, Gold, KOP, Visionary and TII. There's a reason MJ compilations don't get to #1 any more, and it's because it's spread too thin.

Of course.

It's a biopic.

That was always going to be what happened.

To be honest, it would be pretty silly to expect anything else.
Bohemian Rhapsody, Elvis, Rocket Man, A Complete Unknown were all biopics. These contain new mixes, or covers by actors and other artists. So it's not unheard of.

We talking about this billion dollar number like it's mandatory. The movie will be a success, most definitely enough to warrant a sequal. Also, there is a lot that had already been filmed, millions upon millions of dollars spent on what they are cutting out of the current film.. It would be insane to leave the loss on the table when the footage is there.

Regarding promotion, there are issues - details I wont speak of publically. Yes, it is disappointing but we're working with what were working with. Note* It's not exactly whats been rumored but there is something.

The film is filmed great, Jaafar truly does a great job, if Comlan Domingo doesn't win a huge award for his portrayal as Joseph - I'd consider it a robbery.

I'm not saying the fans that stufy MJs life wont habe reason to nitpick things. I, myself had to get used to the creative liberties.. But within those liberties, dynamics are brought to life that the story we've heard for decades simply would not.

In a single scene, you'll see (for example) family dynamics that usually could take a good portion of a movie to explain.. The one thing that I'm most excited over is how the film shows Michaels heart. With that alone, It's a win.

It has been a very strange lead up, but taking positives from your post.

Hopefully there won't be any more hiccups or potholes (after today) on the final stretch. Whatever about the film, I'd hate for his name to get dragged for something he had no control over - we all know how the internet works with stuff like that.

Would you say Jaafar’s performance is also worthy of awards or just Colman?

I keep forgetting about Miles Teller as Branca too!
