I peeked in the Leaving Neverland subreddit and saw them rejoicing that the public conversation seems to be leaning in favor of viewing MJ as guilty, all because there are a few popular tweets and articles painting MJ as guilty. Never mind that “Thriller” reached the top 10 last year for the first time in four decades, the Broadway show is a monumental success and is actively touring, and the biopic is set to break opening weekend records.

The people in the Movie subreddit thought that the movie would flop and wouldn't be a success and the result is that the film is crushing the box office at this moment.

Michael Jackson’s biopic "Michael" earned 6cr ($650K) at the Indian box office on Day 1, nearly surpassing lifetime gross of "Bohemian Rhapsody" 7cr ($1M). The opening weekend in India is projected at 17cr ($1.75M).

Domestically, Michael opening day delivered an even more impressive feat by earning over $40 million, the highest-grossing opening day ever for a biopic. This figure (which includes previews) eclipses the domestic opening day of every other biopic ever released.
• Oppenheimer — $33 million on its opening day in 2023;
• The Passion of the Christ — (dir. Mel Gibson): $26.6 million on its Wednesday opening day 2004;
• Straight Outta Compton (N.W.A. biopic): $24.2 million on Friday in 2015.;
• Bohemian Rhapsody — $18 million on its opening day in 2018.

‘Michael’ Knocking Auds Off Their Feet: Biopic Nears $100M U.S. & $206M+ WW Opening, Best Post Covid For Lionsgate – Box Office Update​

SATURDAY AM: Well, it’s clear, if you want to make the box office a better place, release a Michael Jackson biopic, and make a change. Lionsgate‘s Michael twirled up a $39.5M Friday U.S. in what’s shaping up to be a $95M opening in North America, maybe even an epic $100M (which would be the second highest bow of the year behind Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s $131M). Overseas Universal is reporting from 82 territories $111.4M (excluding Korea and Japan), add it all up and we’re at $206.4M WW, which is the best opening YTD for a live-action MPA movie ahead of Project Hail Mary ($140.9M).

That first day/previews for Michael stateside as well as its opening weekend are the best Lionsgate has seen since 2015’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 ($45.5M), and far and away the best post Covid opening day and weekend the Santa Monica, CA studio has seen. Michael has easily won the dance-off between musical biopic openings, well ahead of Straight Outta Compton ($60.2M). Also, it’s the biggest opening ever for director Antoine Fuqua, far ahead of Equalizer 2 ($36M). It’s also the biggest opening for producer Graham King ahead of both World War Z ($66.4M) and Bohemian Rhapsody ($51M), as well as screenwriter John Logan, besting the 007 title Skyfall ($88.3M).
 
I am pretty sure it is Jafaar singing Billie Jean in the Motown 25 performace. Might go and see the biopic a second time.
