The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

I think we had a similar experience, although I will say I loved it. I set my expectations really low because I just couldn't believe that someone would be able to capture Michael's energy and have it come through but Jaafar knocked it out of the park. It's the Jackson magic that he has, I guess. I think the mouth was one of the biggest things for me. He has the smile. Human Nature was also my favourite part, I thought I was going to lose it. I wish I had been able to see it with fans because other people don't get it.

I made the decision before I walked in the cinema that I was going to have no expectations and just accept that it wasn't going to be an "honest" portrayal of his life or deep insight into who he was as a person and what he went through, or how the people around him really treated him. I felt as a celebration of him it did a lot right. I tensed up when Bubbles showed up because I remember that was such a big part of humiliating him in the press, making it out to be a "weird" relationship and an indictment of him as just a weirdo celebrity. But it was humanizing, he came through as a person who just didn't have friends and who loved and connected with animals.

I was really overwhelmed after watching it and wished I had someone to talk to who would get it. My partners came with me and they enjoyed it but not at all in the same way. It was very intense for me.

Also, hi everyone! Like Alyssa the film brought me back for the first time in over a decade.
So cool the movie brings fans back, ... welcome back to the fam ❣️

Hi MJJ Community. I just joined this site.

I think the movie was beautiful. Jafar Jackson did a wonderful job of bringing out Michael's essence. He was so pure and so connected to the rhythm of love and light. I wonder if all the love we have been feeling again this week has had an impact on the vibration of the planet. Michael's superpower is love.

To all the new fans or new joins, welcome to what i consider the lifeline for Michaels fans/legacy! Gary just want to say i been here since 2003 and before that mjfc i thiink it was called. Never seen this Michaelmania again since he last was with us as in Michael or when he did History tour. Gary thanks for carrying on this place when so many others gave up!

The film missed lots of diffrrent things that hardcore fans would know but again this was not for us really! It was for everyone new old, people that loved J5 , that loved Michael as a boy, as a teen/then breaking out into a young man! It was about showing what Michael could offer to the world and boy has it achieved that! To give you an idea i know people that dont go the movies wait for streaming etc! But they had to go for this! So in essence this achieved what the family wanted! Dont forget family is exec producer i knew Prince would not allow anybody to put out crap and they didnt! What they did worked making some fans and non fans go twice or more to see this movie! I love and miss Michael so much he was just a nice person who was so miss understood and taken advantage of. One thing i will say is this film and im sure some upcoming docs now will show is that Legend but also that shy little boy who never had a childhood and loved goofing around, yes with kids! because they did not want anything other than love and pure fun without making him feel threatened which unfortunatly adults had!
We lost a legend but also a kind human being as that is all he was at the end of the day. *beatlesboy*

Yes, I understand what you are saying. I just went in with the expectation that is impossible for any movie to depict the complexity of a person and all the significant points in their lives, especially because Michael was so out of this world. I just wanted to see the magic again. What a beautiful, bright light of a person he is.

"The planets are linin' up
We're bringin' brighter days
They're all in line waitin' for you
Can't you see?"

Was it a good thing that Tatum O’Neal didn't appear? On the one hand, a scene with her could have shown that MJ was shy and attracted to women, on the other hand, she was still very young at the time of the romance, which would have been grist for the mill of the haters.

This is one of my favorites:
We're on a mission in the everlastin' light that shines
A revelation of the truth in chapters of our minds

(So long, bad times)
We're gonna shake it up and break it up
We're sharin' a light brighter than the sun...
Michael the cosmologist? 😯🤩

Never looked at these lyrics from that song, really ...

Do you think we will get a directors cut?
I dont think so, very limited deleted scenes maybe on the bluray, the rest is saved for part 2.

Did John Branca really help Michael that way is showed in the film or it is complete fiction?
Even if my answer will not popular.
Yes. The story of how they met is also as it has been known for decades, I would have to read it, I mean Michael himself described it in Moonwalker. Michael hired lawyer Branca and his first act was to fire his father as manager. And honestly, I can't see any glorification of Branca in the film. On the contrary, I'm surprised that there weren't more parts in it, e.g. the idea of adding the clause to the Thriller video. Also to get Michael the masters of his music. In my opinion, the whole Branca hate is really exaggerated and it is overlooked that he was actually the only constant and livelong (with breaks) advisor to whom I would attribute seriousness. You will find no album from Michael including Thriller 25 where he doesn't dedicate words of thanks to him.

Someone on reddit has claimed that Brooke Shields has a cameo as a woman crying in one of the crowds, but they couldn't remember which scene. Anyone else catch it?

I feel like the only fan who hasn't seen the movie 😅
No no ! Some of Us are here on the forum but lying low (coz we don't want to spoil it for the people in enjoying the movie).

I personally don't care to watch the film, coz I can't relate to it for 2 reasons:

1. What is depicted in the movie - more than 90% of it , we already have the actual footage with Mike.

2. What is it that we don't already know that is in the movie.

For me the movie is for general public who only consume Mj content sporadically.

I'd rather listen to people like Charlie Thomson. Damien shields, Brad Buxer, and the likes for new stories. Revisit 'secret childhood', 'the legend continues' to watch Mike's story with him in it.

no lol, its exaggerated af
It’s not though. Branca’s scenes are as follows:

- He is hired by MJ and immediately ordered to fire his father, which we know happened
- He sits at Hayvenhurst while MJ outlines his desire to release the best selling album of all time and make short films, which is more than plausible
- He sits in on a meeting with MJ and Walter Yetnikoff, which again is more than plausible
- He visits MJ in the hospital, which, again, likely

He’s barely in the movie, and he’s very clearly depicted as someone hired to do MJ’s bidding lol. I know people on this forum hate the guy (justifiably so in many cases), but his depiction is pretty accurate and tasteful.

I think you are mixing up a movie vs a documentary. A movie is entertainment, art and escapism.

You are looking for a documentary.

They showed Frank Di Leo with his cigar but nothing else. Since Branca helped with firing Joseph, they could have introduced Frank as a new manager somehow. Because it just looked like Branca did everything and was the only figure around Michael's new team.
