The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

Looks like you found the information you asked for, and fairly quickly.

Well done ‘newbie’ 👍👌
Thanks MJ5824ever 😊
I haven't found a lot of info about the potential 🤞 "Michael 2" film tbh. All I'm finding is a little vague. I have a feeling the knowledgeable fans might know more 🤞But if filming hasn't started, we could be in for a long wait.
What would we like to see in "Michael 2" ? Clarity on why Michael is innocent in both cases. His legal team and brilliant defence in court. The lovely friends Michael had... Liz, Diana etc ... The out of this world performances eg Budapest... a hundred thousand fans held in silence till Michael "moved". And... Man in the Mirror.

There's still no official confirmation of the sequel. But with the success of the first part it's inevitable. And maybe really it would be a trilogy with the last movie as the darkest and most dramatic: the allegations and death.

Andrew Greenes comment under MJCasts roundtable of the biopic, I hope he is right we are getting a trilogy :) 🙏

"One thing I’m fairly certain about: the script that was filmed in 2024 was not the earliest version of the screenplay. The original‑original draft reportedly carried the story all the way through Michael’s passing. The version that ultimately went before cameras stops in 1994.
Here’s how I believe Part 2 is designed to unfold:
Opening:

Part 2 will likely mirror the structure of Part 1 — beginning at the “end” and then flashing back. Then rewind to fill in the gap between the final Victory Tour show and the start of the Bad era.

Act I:

This is where we’ll see the connective tissue the first film skipped: The sale of the ATV catalog, the media’s early shift in tone toward Michael, and the creative and personal evolution leading into the Bad era.

Act II:

This act practically writes itself: Michael purchasing Neverland, the development and transformation of the property, his expanding humanitarian work, and a more intimate, humanizing portrait of who he was offstage. This is the emotional core, the part that I believe will deepen the audience’s connection to him.

Act III:

The final act will almost certainly center on the Dangerous era: the artistry, the ambition, the scale, the cultural impact. We will see him reacting to Rodney King beating (spoiler: foreshadowing third movie) culminating in one of the most iconic moments of his career: the Super Bowl halftime show.

Because Part 2 covers a tighter, more concentrated stretch of Michael’s life, I expect a film with far more dialogue, character work, and narrative depth. Less time to cover means more room to breathe.

And yes, everything about the structure, the timeline, and the pacing strongly suggests there will be a third film.
I forgot who it was on the show that said it, but this current film is just act one. We are going to go through three acts. The next film will be act 2, and the third film will be the third act!"
Great news 👐 thanks Lightbringer ✨️ Can we make some requests for the next films 🎥 ? I suppose there would be millions of fans wanting to do this 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks 🙌 Yes there's a lot to cover.... so 2 more sequels rather than 1 🤞

Im sorry i just checked the comments and i didnt see Andrews name, did he use a different name?

I'd rather drink wasps than have to listen to Thompson again.
Charles has made a career exposing perverts in the UK. Which is honorable work

But focusing on that topic all day, every day can't be good for a persons mental health and would likely corrupt you in some way.

Not saying charles is a pervert but it definitely seems like his thought processes have been warped from writing about perverts and their crimes all the time. He now sees everything through that lens even innocent things.

Buddy needs to take a break and possibly see a therapist.

I don’t think there’s a lot of factual information to find out at the moment, to be fair. Just a lot of speculation so. You’re not missing anything factual 👍

Besides, if MICHAEL (1?) carries on at it is, they might not fit anyone else into cinemas, if they bring out MICHAEL 2!!

I suppose that could do back to back all day and night showings of them both! 🤔😉🤣👑👑👑

Great news 👐 thanks Lightbringer ✨️ Can we make some requests for the next films 🎥 ? I suppose there would be millions of fans wanting to do this 🤷🏼‍♀️

As I said….it would have to be about 24 hours long to get all the ‘fan’ suggestions in! And that’s just the few people making suggestions on here!! 😳😬🤔🤣🤣🤣

John Branca to Lionsgate CEO before signing the contract (inspired by the dialogue of Joseph and Don King):

- Have you thought about getting into "Michael"? Biopic type thing?
- I don't follow you.
- Well, I'm about to make a movie. You know, we're gonna start with full 4K. You know, IMAX only. You know, the biggest. It's time to show the world that Michael is back. Bigger than ever.
- Okay.
- You've seen them sales on Thriller 40. People gonna be climbing the walls.
- Of course. Is Chandler gonna be there?
- Of course Chandler gonna be there.
- That's good to hear. Now, what's in it for me?
- I cut you a good deal.
- Wow. I like deals. But you wouldn't be bullshitting me, would you, John? Cause if you can't get Jordan...

Brad Sundberg sent a newsletter about the Biopic:

Michael is packing theaters, and moviegoers around the globe are having a blast rediscovering (or being introduced to) his music and persona! Early reports show the movie has grossed nearly $600M in its first three weeks.

Every indication suggests it will surpass $1B in global ticket sales over the next few weeks. Audiences seem to love it (97% on Rotten Tomatoes), while critics, not so much (39% on Rotten Tomatoes). Seems about right, lol.

So what did I think of the film? If you want to hear my full thoughts, my buddy Jared Bradshaw and I did an entire podcast episode discussing the movie immediately after leaving the theater! You can watch our full review here:

For a shorter answer, here are a few thoughts:

I think the cast was great, starting with young Michael. I think the "drama" between Michael and Joseph was presented well —perhaps, sorry to say, even a bit restrained. Joseph was very strict with those boys, but as Michael stated on a number of occasions (including to me personally) he would not be the performer he became without Joseph. So, like many things, it's complicated.

I thought the music was great, and the performances were a lot of fun to watch. I do wish they had spent a bit more time on teen Michael (Dancing Machine, etc.), but the movie's pace had to stay brisk. Jafaar did an exceptional job emulating Michael's very unique dancing, walking, and mannerisms. That is no small feat and he did a great job.

Did the movie "reveal" things about Michael that many fans didn't already know? Not really, but to me, that was never the point. What the movie did do was introduce an entire generation to the Michael many of us grew up with.

I have talked to so many people of various ages about the film, and some are listening to his discography all the way through for the first time, and others are remembering the magic again, which is what made Michael so special in the first place.

Did it capture every detail correctly? No.
Did it get the chronology perfect? No.
Did it gloss over countless people and events from Michael's early years? Yes.
Does that matter?

Well, let me answer it this way:

A close friend of ours has a young son in the 4th grade. He has no memory of Michael other than a few songs on the radio or hearing his name in passing. He has seen the movie at least twice and is now learning the dances, watching the original videos, and singing Michael's songs! No one is pushing him to do this, but it's as if a giant window has opened for him, and I think it's great to watch. He asks questions and is fascinated by Michael, like many of us were years ago, and I call that a win.

Ah, I also want to include the obligatory dad joke he has in every mail:

Why is a piano so hard to open? Because the keys are on the inside.

🤡
The only thint i was hoping they would more into detail with the vitiligo

is that the second round table?
Correct. Andrew Greenes comment is from under episode 191 which was the 2nd round table.

Episode 190 was the one I linked to on youtube as its the latest thats been released on youtube. Its possible to listen to both of them on spotify and other platforms, they release it on youtube last.

Andrew has commented under episode 190 as well:

The thing about Charlie Thompson is that on the one hand he is one of MJ’s most vehement public defenders in a legal sense, which is great.

On the other hand, by viewing everything he says through the lens of the allegations, in my opinion he often comes across as genuinely disliking MJ as a human being.

For instance, when Thriller 40 came out he said that “The Toy” shouldn’t have come out because it sounds like Michael is singing about a sexual relationship with a child… For this reason he also seems to hate every song Michael wrote about/for children

To top it off, in this Michael roundtable he says that Michael’s relationships with Peter Pan and Bubbles come across in the film as sexual infatuation… like what? The guy really baffles me

Is this sort of thing more suited for the Trials and Tribulations thread?

It’s less ‘offensive’ on there, (as people go on there expecting stuff like this), than on here, surely? 🤷‍♂️🤔

For those that have listened to the MJcast for years its very clear that Thompson cares deeply for MJ as a person and feel pain for all the stuff he had to through at times. There is one sequence where he talks about MJs pain in a certain area that was deeply touching than anything else I hard on the show. I cant recall which episode or what it was about, but I am 100% about it.

For me it also seems like he has fallen into the role of being critical and a bit of clown to make the others laugh and sometimes I do think he overdoes some things just to keep that going, its a bit immature for sure but I dont think its at all a sign he does not like MJ as a person. He does have some weird takes like that Break of Dawn is a terrible song because at that particular time when he sung it did not feel credible MJ singing that, which I took offense to.

Its perfectly possible to love and care for someone but at the same time be very critical of some parts of their life & choices. As in this case his mostly against the choices of the biopic, thats not being against MJ, thats caring about his image being presented the best way possible in the movie

Final note: The first time I head The Toy "I am your toy, I am your boy" probably around LN or something I cringed and felt, there is another song with the same music as this one, do we really need this version with those lyrics? So I can totally understand why someone would question that as a choice by The Estate. Not that MJ meant something wrong when he recorded the song, but after all the allegations that line did not have to see the light of day IMO.

Charles Thompson overall is the MJCasts most interesting character that probably has brought most to the show in terms of analyze but that has said some blunt or insensitive stuff at times!

I’ve listened to MJcast for a very long time, so don’t get me wrong, I do know Charles cares about MJ, but man… some of his takes just rub me the wrong way sometimes

Yes, he is critical about the way MJ is presented on-screen, but he is also very critical of how MJ presented himself, which is what doesn’t sit right with me

Okay fair, but Charles seems to feel the same way about “Childhood”, “The Lost Children”, “Speechless”, and most recently “Neverland Landing”.

I personally think that if Michael stopped releasing songs related to children after 1993 he would be giving in to the accusers, like forfeiting the thing he cared about most. To me, saying that “The Toy” shouldn’t have been released because of LN gives the same message, you know what I mean?

Anyhow, this is now going off-topic from the biopic so I’ll leave it there re. Thompson

Hope so too. It would be really great

Yes, I certainly do not agree on any of these takes he had about the other songs above in bold, although I dont remember exactly what he said about them but I know I did not agree.

My personal preference though was only that singing and rhyming with boy toy and releasing that after all the allegations I dont think we needed especially as we already had Best of Joy. Thanks for the reminder btw of his take on these songs. Yep, I will also drop the Charles topic here. Although it was raised because he is on 2 podcasts talking about the biopic so mentioning him was legit :)
