I’m sitting here listening to Privacy right now and I realize that under different circumstances, in some parallel universe, this song could have been a hit! There’s something about the melody, and the fact that Michael wanted to dedicate it to Princess Diana is truly powerful. The problem is that the final quality of the track is terrible. Instrumentally, the production took a wrong turn... everything sounds so cheap. On top of that, Michael’s vocals are extremely weak. It’s a shame. Such a shame. Compared to 2000 Watts, You Are My Life, and Cry, Michael was actually very involved in creating Privacy. After all, he was the one who explained to Bernard Belle exactly what kind of melody he wanted. I honestly believe the potential of this song was even greater than LMA or WYWTOM...

This song just needed a bit more time... The vocals should have been re-recorded... And, of course, that unnecessary camera shutter sound had to go

I remember that I couldn't get the melody of Privacy out of my head back in 2001. The song definitely has an infectious rhythm, no doubt about it.
@Paul MCC The vocals are already powerful enough:

Why does this fan-made cover sound better than the album version? Just... why?? 😭

The issue isn't that the vocals are weak. You're right, they are powerful. The problem is with Michael's voice... It sounds like he’s singing with maximum tension, like it's strained. Because of that, his voice sounds tight. Michael recorded Privacy just two months before You Rock My World. Now, listen and compare his voice to the vocals on YRMW. In YRMW, his voice sounds much better and far more natural
