I still can not believe they put soo much effort into making a doc about Thriller - show it to small audiences at small fan events - and then nothing...

Not the momentum (if there ever was one?) is totally dead and gone... - If they drop a doc next month and link it to T40 it would just be weird and not make sense at all.

I do not understand The Estate and how they handle things...

Thriller and Beat It drops in 4K with NO PROMO, nothing. And the planned doc never comes...
Thriller 3D was basically the same thing

Thriller 3D was maybe even more weird. - They spend a lot of money transfering to 4K - and afterediting into 3D - and if I remember correct they had to recreate some of the music elements too. - That's quite a long, expensive and demanding proces.

Then they showed it for 14 days before a horror-movie... - Then for 5 years absolutely nothing happend.... Made no sense.

Was it saved for T40? - No... They just randomly switched the existing version into the 4K version without noticing. - Only days after they made a little facebook/twitter status about the Thriller and Beat It 4K videos... - So why did The Estate just have Thriller 4K for 5 years without doing anything. Weird.

It is weird and crazy we haven't heard more about this.

It was shown at fan events in december wasn't it? - So the doc i done and ready...

What on earth is going on? - And then the total radio silence...
It was shown at the end of November. I honestly didn’t even think the preview would happen until the day of. It wasn’t fully completed yet (I’d say about 85% - there are some “filler” video shots over the audio in certain parts). They made such a big deal about no phones etc that I really thought it was going to be released. However there was no post-discussion or follow up survey with fans or anything like that. As a long time fan I was surprised at the “new” footage I hadn’t seen before - aside from the live footage the press conference at the museum of natural history and the interview in what seems to be the thriller set.

Edit: I forgot it's april 1st. but to my defence, it seemed like something the estate would actually do, just dropping the documentary wihtout any promotion.
Tbh, for a couple of seconds there I did have to think about it. Bc, I agree, it is *exactly* the sort of bonkers thing they would do.

Then I checked the calendar. :ROFLMAO:

one of the issues brought up from reviews was the documentary looked unfinished with filler material and not cohesive in story telling. Might be taking longer because the Estate is ironing out those hiccups by removing and adding what's needed.

While this would make sense, they could have avoided all of this by shooting & editing the doc before the T40 release. Why screen it unfinished in the first place smh.

For me, it makes no sense. I can understand (sort of) doing screenings from which you gather feedback and then do a certain amount of re-editing and fine-tuning. But your product really should be pretty much ready to go if you are going to show it to people, especially fans. If the film includes what seems to be obvious filler material then you haven't done the job.

Plan your timetable better, start the project sooner, get the thing 98% finished - at the very least - and then do some screenings to help you with the final polishing and tweaking. If the storytelling wasn't cohesive that's a red flag to me. This is a really well-known story. Including previously unseen footage would be fabulous (did they promise that? can't remember, have lost interest in the project, tbh) but it's not going to change the storyline. New footage should be making the story even more exciting bc of new, previously unknown, details. But how could you end up with a story that isn't cohesive? Rhetorical question.

If it was only a minority of fans that voiced these particular criticisms then what other reason can there be for the delay? Another rhetorical question, lol.

Finally it's been unpinned.

So MJ was the sole songwriter for Behind The Mask post Chris Mosdell right? Greg, Eric Clapton, and all other versions use all lyrics written by MJ?

I wonder what a finished version of 'Behind The Mask' would have sounded like and if it would be anything like the demo, which is still very 'YMO'..
I can imagine it to sound way more funkier, something like 'Thriller' or 'Baby Be Mine'; horn sections, Louis Johnson on bass etc.

It's been 3 months and not a single word on the documentary, I'm starting to think that it will never come out at this point. Our only way to see it might be if the amateur recording gets leaked entirely.

That's how we always get things so....I wouldn't be surprised. It's the fact that they just ignore us is what gets me
