Thriller 40th Anniversary

The new documentary sounds exciting, I'm glad Spike Lee isn't involved.
He's a great filmmaker, but his 2 docs have been too concerned about the impact of the albums rather than the making of them.

I'm not going to get too excited about the never before seen footage until we know more, knowing the Estate it either won't be previously unreleased or it'll be 10 seconds of a 90 minute documentary.
I hope I'm wrong though

Should we assume the new doc is where the 4k videos will be? Either edited into the feature and/or on an eventual bluray as extras, perhaps?

I'm glad the news of the doc is out; I've been wanting to talk about it, I'm curious how Nelson George will approach this project though. Not that I have anything against the guy, he's just spoken about things as fact (and not so favorable about MJ) when they were not so factual. He's also said "...There's a couple bad songs on Thriller." lol Which to each his own but - he's now making a Documentary to celebrate the album.

Whatever the case, I'm excited.

I didn’t know the link to the documentary news was posted in this thread as well.

I know that Brooke shields has been interviewed for it according to nelson George’s instagram. I wonder who else? maybe:

Emmanuel Lewis
ola ray
John landis
Greg phillinganes
bob giraldi,
Steve Barron
Latoya and Janet as ‘p.y.t’ backup vocalists Paul McCartney?
Michael trapson

Thriller 40 Documentary confirmed

Directed by Nelson George w/MJE and Sony

It would be great if the thriller documentary hits the cinemas so other people would take notice of mj

Nelson George said this about Michael back in 2005....

I really hope he have changed his mindset since then.
Been reading some other stuff this guy has written and I'm really wondering what the estate were thinking hiring him. Do they go out of their way to find people who think mj abused boys or something? I hope the doc is good but cmon man.

I haven’t read much from Nelson, but I don’t think an opinion written 17 years ago is indicative of anything. Opinions can change since then. And considering the fact that he was involved in Bad 25, it seems like his perspective has changed.

He’s not Maureen Orth, after all.

No but he is obviously a fair weather bandwagon bitch. He’s stated numerous times after MJ died he was an abuser & tormented mentally

The more I read the worse it gets. WTF are they thinking? Do they not vet these people!?

TRAPSON? Funny but, like, come on.

Bad 25 and Motown to Off the Wall were criticized for having people that had nothing to do with the making of the albums so their input was of little value. It would be cool if the Estate hired Trapson for something but not for this.

trapson’s entire tribute act is based on the ‘thriller’ era. it’s an example of how the legacy lives on in current/future generations, which the documentary also hopes to showcase.

Hell yeah give me some trapson!!

there’s also Vincent Patterson and Jeffrey daniels. members of toto.. the elephant in the room would be Quincy. maybe he would say something nice this time? it wouldn’t feel complete without him.

unfortunately many of the people originally involved on the ‘thriller’ album are no longer alive

Of course yet another mainstream media idiot. This is exactly why I have not paid any attention to it in years, no regrets so far. They were always after Michael, and they still are now. I don't talk about the Estate often since frankly I don't like to be negative (the closest I usually get to "negativity" is when I'm defending Michael, and even then I do so exactly because I consider him a positive figure), but goodness gracious, the Cascio tracks, now this... There are certain things I simply can't defend. We need less vultures and more love, and they're not helping, when they absolutely should. Love was Michael's message, after all.

Anyway I'm not gonna pay any attention to it, I don't trust it.

Molesting prepubescent boys is a greater taboo than seducing teenage girls.

"It may be morally questionable or legally wrong, but it's not weird behavior that an older guy wants to be with a younger girl," author/filmmaker Nelson George ("Hip Hop America") said.
Jackson, who rarely releases music anymore, is widely considered past his prime. The prolific Kelly is not.

"The one thing that Michael Jackson was not able to do was remind people why we care about you -- you're a great musician and a great entertainer," George said. "R. Kelly has been able to say, `Look at me. I'm more than these accusations. I'm still a gifted musician.'"

Spike doesnt look so bad now does he? Lol
Nelson was also included on Bad25. He actually got to listen to Bad early and didnt really have anything positive to say about it. I didnt know about the later comments he made.

Nah, he still does, lmao.

I still don’t think is anything worth getting angry over, unless I’m missing some recent comments he’s made. It’s entirely possible the man thought MJ was guilty and since had a come to Jesus moment. Every article I’m seeing is from 2005, when damn near everyone thought MJ was guilty of something. Opinions change over 17 years.

I guess I am the only one who liked the Spike Lee Docs. They added the impact parts for the younger mainstream audience. Thats how marketing works.

It is simply annoying how now for the 3rd Docu even before the release negativity spreads again.

Is this Community ever satisfied? Be more positive and you will see where this might lead to. ;)
