Thriller 40th Anniversary

In my opinion. Heartbreaker is better, but Xscape is better than Unbreakable and Threatened. And Invincible is an awful song, in my opinion.
Invincible is a great song, we just get tired of it after a minute. It's underrated in a lotta ways. The bridge is great and the beat is pretty modern still. Versus the late 90s Superthug of Unbreakable, or the early 2000s glitchpop of Heartbreaker.

Maybe if Invincible wasn't track 3 on the album, I might feel differently about it. Listening to Unbreakable, Heartbreaker & Invincible one after another can be a chore. Inclusion of FATS doesn't help either.

That's what I'm saying. You gotta enjoy it on your own. No one actually listens to the entire CD.

I know people like to hate John Branca - but I really enjoy the TikTok videos. They are professionally made, they give info and promote MJ.
So what if it's Branca? - He knew MJ for 20+ years. He was his lawyer, so he probably knew many many things about MJ both personally and professionally.

Yetnikof asked if MJ was angry about something with ET - what was that about? Why would MJ be mad? - MJ won a grammy for the ET project, right? Can someone enlighten me please. :)

Clearly everyone is forgetting about the hit song GYWOOM.
It's not any worse just like the others aren't much better. From what I've heard. But it is an outtake. They're all good songs, some are just better developed and in different sonic phases.

They kinda blacklisted the ET project, long story short.

I just hate the fact that instead of there being an official MJ tiktok posting content he's using MJ to get popular on there and then the official MJ Instagram is sharing his tiktoks. Just screams of trying to make it about himself.

(I'd also like to say people have legitimate reasons for disliking him and it's not just a "like to hate" situation at all).

He might have some megalomania going on. He wants to put himself in focus. The MJ rain falls on him I guess. But as long as the content is good and professionally done and provides new info, I am OK with that.

I know many has many many reasons to dislike Branca, and not all decisions have been what I wanted. - But that does not make the decision wrong... The only 100% wrong decision was to include the Cascio songs on Michael. - But he is a lawyer and the Cascio family had been close to MJ for many years. So I understand why Branca trusted Cascio - and Branca was tricked and fooled big time. - Is is easy to admit you have released fake songs? NO... It is a major decision. And a huge failure for both SONY and The Estate. Maybe even legal problems too... So as soon as the album was printed and officially released as CD and digitally, it was not easy to remove the songs. - But finally they did. Many years too late I agree. But I also understand why it was not as easy as some fans might want to think, to remove the 3 songs.

But I would like to read/hear more about the E.T. thing. Why did SONY blacklist the project? It did recieve a grammy? I always thought it was a big and succesful project. - Does anyone know more about it? and what was going on between MJ and SONY?

I'm not sure but I think the reason is because maybe mj didn't want 2 releases at the exact same time on top of otw 1979, triumph 1980, triumph tour 1981 & then thriller 1982-e.t & just like motown released fareware my summer love "1984" & they were dead wrong for doing so. I think he probably felt he was overexposed. Thinking about it now...I can understand why he didn't want to do motown25 & much for Thriller (more short films *lady in my life *cough cough) but that's just my theory

Also, not wanting to derail the thread too much but, about this. The estate had a really long time to remove the songs before release and had every MJ collaborator and his family telling them that they didn't think it was him. Still went ahead and released them anyway because Branca didn't want to listen and they had paid money for them.

People gotta stop making excuses for them when it comes to this tbh, there's nothing really to "understand" imo, there's just what happened.

One of the best years since 2014. Hopefully the estate uses this as a jump board for 2023.

We also got 2 writer demos, a long snippet leak of GYWOOM, Family Thing in full and the full 1988 demo of Earth Song. It was a good year indeed 😁
