Chantelle Brown-Young is a 19-year-old model-wannabe from Toronto, Canada who has been battling the rare skin pigmentation disorder called vitiligo since she was four.

In her pitch video for the modelling competition, Brown-Young said she is the underdog and she wants "to prove that one can follow one's dreams despite all the flaws and setbacks."

Describing herself as a vitiligo spokesmodel, the young "ANTM" contestant, who also goes by the name Winnie Harlow, has 100,000 followers on Instagram.

In 2011, Brown-Young posted a YouTube video entitled "Vitiligo: A Skin Condition not a Life Changer," where she discussed her skin condition.

"People have black skin, people have brown skin, I have both," Young-Brown said in the video.

Brown-Young has also been invited to give a motivational talk with students about the discrimination she has suffered growing up with vitiligo.

With support from her family, Brown-Young also revealed that she was able to overcome the suicidal thoughts she was often troubled with while being bullied and called "zebra" and "cow" due to the lighter patches of skin that appear on her face and body.

Vitiligo patients like Brown-Young have depigmented or white patches of skin on their bodies due to destroyed melanocytes, pigment-producing cells of the skin, in certain areas, Medical Daily explained.

Later in his career, the late King of Pop claimed that he was also a vitiligo patient when he was questioned about the drastic change of his skin color.

For Brown-Young, she said she has something very profound about the way she looks, and many people have a story or a background, but hers is painted on her body, She Knows reported.

From California, her family moved to Canada to give her a new start and to show their support as she embarks on a modelling career.

The "ANTM" contestant's mother Lisa Brown said she was so thrilled at her daughter's turnaround and new level of confidence.

"I can't stop thanking God for this wonderful blessing," Brown said.

The 21st cycle of "ANTM" is to be aired Fridays at 9 to 10 p.m. EST as part of CW's 2014-2015 primetime schedule, Hit Fix reported.
