Was In The Back originally supposed to be on Blood On The Dance Floor

I thought ''in the back'' was recorded after 2003 cuz of gavin
 
I never knew it was intended for BOTDF. I always thought it was an Invincible outtake that never took off. I like what appears on TUC despite it's very incomplete. It had potential.

His contractual obligations from his 1991 Sony deal were fulfilled with the release of "Number Ones".

Would love to hear the 1999 demo if it supposedly exists. Kind of hard to believe it does; if that was the most recent version of the song, then why wasn't it on The Ultimate Collection?

Still weird to advertise a specific track (In The Back) to be included on an album while it's no way near finished..?
This and the fact that Buxer said it's one of his favourite songs makes me still believe/hope there is a vocally finished version out there

It would have been cool if "In the Back" was finished and put on Blood on the Dance Floor. Would have made Blood feel more like a continuation to History. "Morphine", "Ghosts", and "Is It Scary" follow the same angry, personal vibe as History, so "In the Back" would've been right at home with them.

The song "Blood on the Dance Floor" doesn't really follow that vibe, and to be honest, I kinda think it should have stayed in the vault (on a sidenote, I think the album have been called "Ghosts" or "Ghosts: History in the Mix"). Even if I can excuse the song "Blood" since it was such an international hit, "Superfly Sister" was completely disposable.

It's literally just an outtake from the Dangerous sessions lol. Sounded way too outdated for 1997. No wonder it flopped in the US; they at least should at least have let Teddy Riley rework it to sound more modern.

Thematically, 'In The Back' would have fitted into the 'Blood On The Dance Floor' album, but:

As its title suggests, the 'Blood On The Dance Floor' album was meant to have only up-tempo/danceable, dark songs.

So, in this regard, 'In The Back' (a slow-paced song) would not have fitted into that album.

Yeah you are probably right. I mean I agree it would be strange (criminal, lol) to put a mumbled demo on a greatest hits collection if there is also a more finished version around..

But I do think it's weird that Brad Buxer said ITB is his favourite song.. That indicates there is more than mumbling to me. And to publicly promote a totally unfinished track for the BOTDF album to pressure himself just doesn't seem to be a MJ thing to do all; wasn't he way too conservative for that?

It's a very, very well crafted pop song imo. But to be honest, when it came out it did feel very outdated to me too..
It literally has similar samples as RTT, Ghosts too

In the Ultimate Collection there was a desire to show the evolution of the career and how the songs changed with the times and Michael grew as an artist and as a songwriter.

A version with more vocals was alledgedly played at a (non Sundberg?) event in Cologne.
 
I don't believe that at all. Was posted here once by someone and then never mentioned again, even when asking for more details.

Brad saying he likes it does not mean there are more vocals. Pretty sure he's said that other songs with basically no vocals are some of his favourites as well, like Adore You.

Of course I'd love there to be more but I don't see the evidence for it really.

Likely just a alternative title to the remix, maybe they wanted to hide refugees duet before release

Because the others remix are still the same as release but with different title
 
Brothers in rhythm did other mixes for MJ so likely this is a different mix all together than the refugee camp one. Also likely this would be more of a house mix.
