Questions Still Surround Michael Jackson's Death, on What Would Have Been His 52nd Birthday
Michael Jackson's birthday is being remembered around the country, but unanswered questions about his death shadow the celebration of his life. Today would have marked the King of Pop's 52nd birthday, had he not passed away last June, at age 50. Recent developments in the music icon's murder trial may call for the exhuming of his remains. The controversy makes it difficult to celebrate Michael Jackson's birthday, when he may have to be laid to rest yet again.
Michael Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009, at his Holmby Hills mansion. Cause of death was listed as acute propofol intoxication. His amended death certificate cites that his death from the sedative was a homicide. The certificate also states cause as "intravenous injection by another."
On Feb. 8, 2010, cardiologist and Jackson's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray entered a plea of not guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge. He is out free on a $75,000 bond.
Court Ruling Shadows MJ's Birthday
TMZ reports that Dr. Murray's defense team won a request to obtain Michael Jackson's fluid samples. The defense lawyers' intent is to test the propofol levels again, to see if they match preliminary drug findings and if any other medications were present in Jackson's system.
If there is not enough tissue and fluid samples left for testing, there is a chance the Jackson's body may have to be exhumed. This ruling came out the Monday before Michael Jackson's birthday, allowing the circumstances of his death to cloud celebrations even more than they would have naturally.
Michael Jackson's Next Birthday May See Him Laid to Rest
Dr. Murray's preliminary trial date is set for Jan. 4, 2011. AFP reports that at this hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor will decide if the prosecution has enough eveidence to prosecute Dr. Murray. A status hearing is set for Oct. 26, 2010.
This time line indicates that if any testing is to be done, it should be complete before Michael Jackson's birthday in that year. Even if his body is exhumed, it should be laid back to rest by then.
