Hot topic What unreleased demos and remixes do you think will be on Thriller 40 Disc 2?

I think they actually created their own version of the track that they wanted to use. Brian May talks about it, and the difficulty working with The Estate in this video

Does make sense to be their version since it was a Queen compilation album. Thanks for the video!

edit: Just finished the video. Branca once more gatekeeping stuff. What's the point anyway?

I didn't say he was wrong and I do know the original The Essential Michael Jackson has fake edits. I just simply pointed out there is a real single mix on streaming platforms, so there is chance that the 7" remix on digital bonus can be a authenic mix.
I feel like you're being kind of defensive here even though i am agreeing with you haha

Honestly, I think 'There Must Be More to Life Than This' would have sounded better with a slightly deeper register. While it's not a bad vocal, MJ had a lot more in his vocal repertoire to bring to the table while being on a song with a vocalist like Freddie Mercury. They're vocals ran together really well for 'State of Shock'...

I always thought the William Orbit remix was fanmade, never knew it was actually stitched together using the original reels, thanks for sharing that video!
It's on the "Queen Forever" compilation released in 2014.

i think now is the time to invest in whatever michael jackson related companies there is lads, things are looking to be set to blow up for mj in a very good way with the movie, album and now doccumentary on the way.

Never knew that was actually released, thought it was some bootleg, I always was skeptical because of how the MJ vocals sounded on that, never gave it thought it was a rough demo recording and the quality wouldnt be the best, damn i feel like an idiot for that lol.

It sounds fan made, definitely, lol. That's why I'm annoyed the MJ Estate made Queen release that instead of their own version. Don't think it's much to do with the quality of the recordings. It's just horribly produced and mixed. Check out the leaked Gold Mix on youtube, even though it's unfinished it's much better imo.

You have to remember they recorded the MJ one in MJ's home studio and not some actual professional studio, i assume the intention was to get into an actual studio and go back and record a proper take there, hence the quality isn't of standard on this rough take.

Tragic the quality of the Gold Mix is horrendous, i cant really give my opinion on it due to its poor quality.
Whilst that may be true, the mixing on literally everything on that remix is awful, so MJ's vocals could have sounded much better, and they do on the gold mix. On the William Orbit mix he sounds underwater.

There must be more to life than this is my vote for worst recording Michael ever made. Freddie dominates the song. There didn’t seem to be any chemistry between them.

Gold mix is sooooo much better

I'm positive I have a CD rip of there must be more to life than this as a duet, I'll check my PC later on.

I just hope we will get 1-2 more unleaked tracks as well as officially released the following leaked ones:
Hot street, and
Niteline

Nightfall lover or rolling the dice would be a dream if we got more of those songs because they haven't leaked out

Guys, is slapstick the demo of Hot street? I just listened to both these demos back to back and I haven’t heard these in a long time but imo Slapstick is 10x better than Hot Street! Both vocally and production wise. Doesn’t anyone else feel like this?

I'd like them to include Slapstick purely because we already have Hot Street in HQ, but I think it's clearly unfinished and a demo and Hot Street is the finished version.

In what way is slapstick unfinished? It has a full vocal take, no mumbling words, Adlibs (more Adlibs than hot street, full bridge, finished production etc. The only thing is that it is LQ

You can just tell by listening to it. Everything on Hot Street is just infinitely better. Production, stronger vocal take, etc.

I disagree with this. I’m even hesitant to call slapstick a demo. I mean sure, theoretically it is demo of hot street because hot street evolved from Slapstick but to me it sounds much more like they just recorded a full blown out song with slapstick and then decided to change the theme of the song and re-record it with new lyrics. What’s even more interesting is that if you listen to the bridge of Hot street, MJ stops in mid sentence, he probably did that on purpose but it sounds a bit odd in my ears, but in slapstick he fully sings that sentence which makes much more sense in my ears. Just small stuff like this. Slapstick sound way more punchier and groovier than Hot Street

I must confess before I got on the forums, I thought Hot Street was the demo to Slapstick, not the other way round 😅

I can flip a coin on which I prefer, although Slapstick is funkier. Both weren't strong enough for selection in my opinion
