Why do people act like they can't understand why someone would lie about Michael?

This is something I've been trying to wrap my head.

I see this time and time again from fans

Some person who knew Michael or some "friend" will come out and make a claim about Michael that contradicts something Michael said and fans will immediately take their word for it and declare Michael the liar. The excuse I often hear is "why would they lie?"

There are several reasons they would lie

1. The media paid them
2. They get attention for making the claim (interviews, podcasts, ect)
3. They are selling something such as a book and no one would care about it otherwise if they didn't bring up Michael
4. To absolve themselves for something they did to Michael and blame it on him
5. They want to obtain money from Michael through a bogus lawsuit or extortion

Why do people act obtuse and pretend like they don't know or can't understand this? Is it willful ignorance? Delusion?

People lie for attention. People lie for money. People murder for money.

ETA:

For context, this post is an example of what I'm talking about. Now it's kinda of extreme example but it showcases the behavior I'm referring to.

They want to have attention on them by telling lies and report them in their book. Also, during his 1993 audition, he clearly said that he wasn't gay and that the rumors were false. It's like that woman who said she was his girlfriend and everybody believed her even some fans. The best thing to do is to ignore them.

Just my personal point of view, ignore these people. If they don't get the attention they will eventually stop 'cause no one is eating their BS.

It's not always on purpose, sometimes two people can remember one and the same event/fact totally different btw.
And events can be interpreted totally different too. The mind is a strange thing

If you don't mind me asking, what examples of people making "claims" about Michael, that contradicts his words? It can be anything as long as it's not about the abuse allegations. Maybe a story from an employee, Michael's own kids, work colleagues, fans, etc.
