I think people do want to be entertained, and "groomed" stars has learned to entertain- but in that education they have become "dull"?
But Michael also was "groomed" in Motown, as a child star.
Sad as it is, his past as a child star means that he developed his talents to the extreme- and because he is a survivor of that fate, he has the education of almost 20 years before he becomes a superstar on his own in the Thriller era.
Many of the great artists started very young, when you see the exeptional work of artists as Michelangelo, Da Vinchi, Mozart etc... they all were trained in their craft from a very young age.
However, whatever else it takes of being talented to the extreme- its the drive and willingness to work as hard as its humanly possible, combined with being authentic, and have an ability to toutch the hearts of so many people.
