Pepsi Partners With Michael Jackson Estate for Commemorative Packaging [Pepsi Promo /Can discussion]

I don't remember seeing the statement in bold below, before (or have I just missed it?) I saw that there was a competition, but not the nature of the competiton.


PepsiCo Inc. (PEP) has teamed up with the Estate of Michael Jackson to feature the late pop star’s image on its Pepsi cans.

Per the global partnership, the soft drink company will launch 1 billion cans of its popular soft drink, Pepsi, which will feature Michael Jackson's iconic image in silhouette. The partnership is part of PepsiCo’s broader ‘Live for Now’ marketing campaign which was launched in U.S. last month. The partnership coincides with the 25th anniversary of the legendary singer’s multi-platinum album, Bad.

The campaign will also feature some music events and contests where fans can win special edition merchandise. As part of the campaign, Pepsi, Jackson's estate, and his Sony Music record company have also entered into a deal to share new mixes of music from the Bad album.

On May 5, limited edition Pepsi cans were launched throughout China and will be launched later this month in the U.S. Thereafter, the Michael Jackson activity will be rolled out in 20 other countries in Asia, South America and Europe.

From May 15 to June 14, the company will offer Chinese fans tickets to a popular tour* on sharing photos of their Jackson collections or original artwork.

PepsiCo is trying to lure Michael Jackson fans to boost sales of its Pepsi soft drink and win market share from its biggest competitor The Coca Cola Company (KO).

Just saw the Pepsi China TV ad. Yikes! I hope this is not a sign of what's to come. Do they have something against using Michael's actual image or something???:bored:

This is like dejavu when the videos started coming out for the Michael album. No actual sight of the man at all. Just a bunch of lame people dancing to his music. Ugh.

Re. the Pepsi competition in China...does anyone know (mkgenie??) if the fan photos of MJ collections / artwork are being posted on a website anywhere? Is there a link? I'd love to see them.

Well, I love the Pepsi commercial. The effects are amazing. And it's totally obvious that it's also promoting BAD25.

I'd say GOOD JOB!

'The Chase' commercial is something from the past and Michael is no longer with us to support new commercials. So I in my opinion I think Pepsi did a terrific job!

Are people voting on their favourites? Is this how someone will win a 'Bad' jacket (by getting the most votes) ? (Do you know how many 'Bad' jackets can be won...is it just one?)

I just dont see why the Chinese didnt promote the MJ BAD25 Pepsi Cans in the add. That seems odd to me. That's what they are trying to promote and sell. ONE Billion BAD25 Cans of Pepsi and yet they didnt even show them in the add let alone MJ. WHY?

Because they don't care about boosting BAD25 sales, they care about boosting PEPSI sales.

Of course their main goal is to sell their product. They're losing their market in China in favor of Coca-Cola, so they're trying to win it back. They're a corporation, what do you expect them to do? Forget that their sales have dropped in China in the last few years and just have fun promoting MJ? As great as that might be, it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Maybe the promotion will be different in other countries, who knows...

The whole day, especially the afternoon and night. Not just night.

The pictures are from events held in 3 cities (Qingdao, Chengdu, Chongqing) of 3 provinces in China, which we supported

Today we are receiving photos from another city Zhengzhou

MJ Pepsi cans just arrived in these cities.

I'm curious how you got these pictures. Are you Chinese, reading our weibo microblog ?
