Dr. Murray Rally: We Love You

We're told United States Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee will be in attendance, to show support for the doctor who is accused of killing Michael Jackson.

We're also told as many as 1,000 people are expected to show at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Acres Homes, a poor community in Houston.

As TMZ first reported the initial plan was to charter buses and come to L.A. -- to counter the protests organized by Michael Jackson fans.

Has anyone heard about this woman? :scratch:

Edit.....

Sheila Jackson Lee (born January 12, 1950) is an American politician. She has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1995. She represents Texas's 18th congressional district.

I know the source is TMZ but IF she does turn up to support Murray what a slap in the face of family and fans this would be.

I posted this in this thread a month or so back..

I read somewhere that murray supporters are coming to LA by bus loads June 14th to rally.

Not sure where this statement came from exactly but it has been going from MJ facebooks to every MJ fan forums online...

MESSAGE TO THE FANS, FROM MR. JOSEPH JACKSON AND MR. MAJESTIK MAGNIFICENT:
MAY 10, 2010

It has recently come to our attention that Conrad Murray supporters will be demonstrating at the preliminary hearing, June 14th at the Superior Court of Los Angeles, much like Michael’s supporters have always done. This is their right just as it is ours.

We would like to urge fans that are planning to attend to please do so in peace, unity, and love for Michael. There should be NO violence, NO slander, NO yelling, and NO bad-mouthing or name-calling of Murray or his supporters. This reflects negatively on Michael. He would not support this type of behavior. The press called Michael names that were undeserved and hurtful. By acting out and creating chaos, our message can not be heard or is overshadowed by our behavior. By calling names, we are lowering ourselves to their level. That would only contribute to the filthy tabloid gossip. Michael deserved better than that. We must honor him, his wishes, and his message of peace and compassion, even in the face of opposition. Both sides can peacefully co-exist and let the justice be served inside the courtroom, just as it has been before.

Please ignore their signs, actions and words. DO NOT acknowledge their presence, IGNORE them completely, and certainly do not respond to anything they have to say. DO NOT let them bait you into an argument or lashing out to defend Michael. That is what they want. Our protest should be silent. We do not want to draw any attention to them at all. The world needs to see Michael’s light shining through all of you instead.

Our message is much bigger, better, and more dignified by not using slanderous or vulgar words. Your respect will make a much larger statement that will be revered instead of criticized. Their behavior toward a silent prayer vigil will only make them look bad. They cannot fight if there is no one to fight with. Do not give them the fuel for their fire.

Please do not even acknowledge their banners. Our banners will stay the same: “Justice for Michael”. We all have a common, unifying mission, which is JUSTICE FOR MICHAEL. We do not have to respond to them at all, because Conrad Murray supporters are not on the side of righteousness or justice, they are wrong, and right will prevail.

This is much deeper than just a demonstration. This will go down in history. Whatever your actions are that day, will be part of Michael’s legacy. When people look back on this day we want them to remember Michael, not Conrad Murray. Michael Jackson supporters are not to be looked down on as crazed fanatics, but as crusaders for peace and love. This is what Michael Jackson is, was, and always will be. It is what he believed in and stood for. We are HIS voice, representing HIM.

Martin Luther King Jr. said,
“A riot is the language of the unheard. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity. Importance should be undertaken with painstaking excellence. We must love our enemies - or else? The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate”

MICHAEL IS LOVE AND PEACE, NOT HATE! This is the message we must unite to send to the world.

You have caught the attention of the entire world; you represent their conscience and inspiration. This is your chance to impact Michael’s legacy and reputation for generations to come. We must stand together to honor him. We can shut them out completely and let our message speak for itself. The most powerful impact you can have in carrying on his legacy, is spreading his peace and love. Our silent protest and prayer vigil will be seen and felt the world over. Make Michael proud!

THANK YOU, AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Mr. Joseph Jackson, and Mr. Majestik Magnificent

Edit:

"Sources close to Murray tell us a group of his friends, patients and fellow church members -- numbering in the "hundreds" -- will be outside the courthouse at Murray's next court hearing to show solidarity.

We're told the group will rent buses in Houston and Las Vegas -- where Dr. Murray has his medical practices -- and drive them to L.A. for the June 14 court date."

A tribute to an American legend and musical icon.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

June 26, 2009
Ms. JACKSON-LEE of Texas (for herself and Ms. WATSON) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs
RESOLUTION

A tribute to an American legend and musical icon.
Whereas Michael Jackson was not only an accomplished recording and performing artist, he was a noted humanitarian;
Whereas Michael Jackson began his stellar recording career as the featured member of ‘The Jackson 5’, which was the first act in recorded history to have their first four major label singles ‘I Want You Back’,‘ABC’,‘The Love You Save’, and ‘I’ll Be There’, reached the top of the American charts;

Whereas the internationally recognized ‘Thriller’ released in 1982, which became a smash hit yielded seven top-10 singles. The album sold 21 million copies in the United States and at least 27 million worldwide. It was a monumental moment in music history;
Whereas Michael Jackson was labeled ‘The King of Pop’, Jackson’s music is internationally recognized and critically acclaimed;
Whereas Michael Jackson was one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice;
Whereas in the early 1980s, Michael Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as ‘Beat It’, ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Thriller’–widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form–helped bring the relatively new channel to fame;
Whereas, on January 10, 1984, Michael Jackson visited the unit for burn victims at Brotman-Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, and demonstrated his concern with people suffering from grievous injuries;
Whereas, on April 9, 1984, David Smithee, a 14-year-old boy suffering from cystic fibroses was invited to Michael’s home, in response to a dying request to meet Michael. David passed away 7 weeks later;
Whereas, on April 14, 1984, Michael Jackson was single handedly responsible for equipping a 19-bed-unit at Mount Sinai New York Medical Center. This center is now a critical part of the T.J. Martell Foundation for leukemia and cancer research;
Whereas, on July 5, 1984, during the Jackson’s press conference at Tavern On The Green, Michael announced that his portion of the earnings from the Victory Tour would be donated to three charitable organizations: The United Negro College Fund, Camp Good Times, and the T.J. Martell Foundation;
Whereas, on July 14, 1984, after the first concert of the Victory Tour, Michael met 8 terminally ill children backstage;
Whereas, on December 13, 1984, Michael visited the Brotman Memorial Hospital, where he had been treated when he was burned during the producing of a Pepsi commercial. He subsequently donated all the money he received from Pepsi, $1.5 million, to the Michael Jackson Burn Center for Children;
Whereas, on January 28, 1985 Michael and 44 other artists met to record ‘We Are The World’, written by Michael and Lionel Ritchie, a project devoted to fighting global hunger. The proceeds of this record were donated to the starving people in Africa;
Whereas in 1986, Michael set up the ‘Michael Jackson UNCF Endowed Scholarship Fund’. This $1.5 million fund is aimed toward assisting students majoring in performance art and communications, with money given each year to students attending a UNCF member college or university;
Whereas, on February 28, 1986, after having had a heart-transplant, 14-year-old Donna Ashlock from California received a call from Michael Jackson. He had heard that she was a fan. Michael invited Donna to his home following her recovery;
Whereas, on September 13, 1987, Michael supported a campaign against racism. He made every effort to publicly support NAACP, in the fight against discrimination of African-American artists;
Whereas in October 1987, at the end of his ‘Bad Tour’, Michael donated personal items to UNESCO for a charitable auction. The proceeds of his donation were allocated for the education of children in developing countries;
Whereas, on February 1, 1988 The Song ‘Man In the Mirror’ entered the charts. The proceeds from the sales of this record went directly and exclusively to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, a camp for children who suffer from Cancer;
Whereas, on March 1, 1988, at a press conference held by his sponsor Pepsi, Michael presented a $600,000 check to the United Negro College Fund;

Whereas, on May 22, 1988, Michael visited cancer-stricken children in the Bambini-Gesu Children’s Hospital in Rome. He signed autographs and gave away sweets and records to the young patients. He also announced his monetary donation of 100,000 pounds to the hospital;
Whereas, on July 16, 1988, Michael met the Prince of Wales and his wife Diana, where he donated 150,000 pounds for the Prince’s Trust, and a check of 100,000 pounds for the children’s hospital at Great Ormond Street;
Whereas, on July 20, 1988, Michael visited terminally ill children at Great Ormond Street Hospital. At a unit for less critical patients he stayed longer and to engage in story telling time with the children;
Whereas, on August 29, 1988, at his 30th birthday Michael performed a concert in Leeds, England, for the English charity organization ‘Give For Life’, an organization designed as an immunization charity for children. Michael presented a check for 65,000 pounds;

International artist visits D.C., plans tour of Africa to focus on HIV-AIDS epidemic

WASHINGTON (FinalCall.com) - The African continent has a true friend in Michael Jackson. During his three decades of visits there since his childhood, Mr. Jackson has financially supported programs to build and equip hospitals, orphanages, homes and schools as well as programs related to child immunization, HIV/AIDS, and the anti-apartheid struggle.

‘I cannot imagine a greater asset to this fight against AIDS in Africa and helping us make good on President Bush’s promises, than to have Michael Jackson with us.’
-Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Texas)

On April 1, the African diplomatic community officially showed its appreciation, presenting the "King" of popular music and the entertainment world’s most generous philanthropist with a one-foot-tall, brass elephant statuette from the African Ambassadors’ Spouses Association (AASA) in recognition of his worldwide humanitarian efforts, particularly in Africa.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Jackson in the name of the people of my country, Ethiopia," Mrs. Haregewoine Abebe, wife of the Ethiopian Ambassador to the U.S. and hostess of the gala reception at her country’s embassy, told more than 200 guests.
"You may recall that Mr. Jackson and his colleagues, Mr. Quincy Jones and Mr. Lionel Ritchie, started the ‘We Are the World’ project in 1985. This monumental effort raised millions of dollars to assist the victims of famine and mobilize the world to respond to the tragedy faced by Ethiopia at that time," Mrs. Abebe said as audience members cheered.
In 1984, Mr. Jackson composed the song "We Are the World," which was recorded by dozens of the world’s most popular singers. The recording and the video earned millions of dollars for Ethiopian famine relief.
Mr. Jackson was in Washington for public meetings with several members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to promote awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic on the Continent, and for private visits with wounded U.S. military personnel being treated at Walter Reed Army Hospital, and with students at the Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts.
"I cannot imagine a greater asset to this fight against AIDS in Africa and helping us make good on President Bush’s promises, than to have Michael Jackson with us," Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Texas) told reporters on Capitol Hill March 31, according to published reports.
Over two days, Mr. Jackson met privately with a half-dozen CBC members—including Reps. Lee, William Clay Jr. (D-Mo.), Chaka Fatah (D-Pa.), Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), John Lewis, and Bobby Rush (D-Ill.)—as well as with a delegation of African ambassadors. The primary focus of the meetings was to raise awareness about the scourge of AIDS on the African continent.
The full, 39-member CBC declined to officially meet with Mr. Jackson because of a full legislative schedule, Mrs. Jackson-Lee told reporters. Privately, however CBC members were "afraid," one CBC source who asked not to be identified confided. "They didn’t want to be associated with someone they think might be a child molester. That was not the position of this office," the source said.
Mr. Jackson has been charged in California with seven counts of child molestation and two counts of giving alcohol to a minor.
"I am very well aware that Mr. Jackson is engaged in the legal system," Mrs. Jackson-Lee said in a prepared statement. "I am also aware that he is innocent until proven guilty. I believe in the rightness of fairness, and that Mr. Jackson should be allowed to maintain his life. Mr. Jackson is a world phenomenon, and we should look outside of condemnation, to faith, charity and hope, which is what Mr. Jackson brings."
Rep. Rush agreed. "We are a nation of laws, and people are innocent until proven guilty," Rep. Rush said in a statement to The Final Call. "After my meeting with Michael Jackson, I came away feeling that Michael would be a magnificent spokesperson for the plight of people suffering HIV/AIDS. He is indeed someone who can lead the global fight for those suffering with this disease. His voice would be a powerful and forceful voice around the world to provide medical treatment and eventually a cure."
Mr. Jackson pledged that he was "capable and willing to dedicate the remainder of his entire life to the HIV/AIDS epidemic," Mr. Rush said. "With this campaign, Michael will continue to have an impact on our lives. Michael is the man for such a time as these."
About 50 onlookers waiting to get a glimpse of the superstar, shouted, screamed and chanted "Michael! Michael!" as Capitol Police and security guards helped Mr. Jackson push through the crowd in the hall of one of the House office buildings on his way into and out of the meetings held over two days.
CBC member Jesse Jackson Jr. contrasted President George W. Bush’s promise in his 2003 State of the Union address to provide $15 billion over the next five years for AIDS treatment in poor countries, with more than 14 months of "shortages of money and battles over patents (which) have kept anti-retro viral drugs from reaching more than 90 percent of the poor who need them," according to "talking points" prepared for the meetings with Mr. Jackson, and obtained by The Final Call.
U.S. spending to fight AIDS thus far "has not kept pace with (Mr.) Bush’s $15 billion, 5-year plan," according to the talking points. "Last year, (Mr.) Bush requested only $940 million and Congress provided less than $2 billion to the effort," which should translate into $3 billion per year for five years. This year, Mr. Bush requested $2.6 billion in bi-lateral assistance.
Still, Rep. Jackson (no relation) complained in his talking points, Mr. Bush donated less than half of the money authorized by Congress ($200 million of $550 million that was approved) to the Global AIDS Fund. Total donations to the fund are about $1.6 billion a year, barely 20 percent of what the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan said was needed when he created the fund in 2001.
"This is very, very important to me," Mr. Jackson, the singer, said in an impromptu response to a reporter’s question about his commitment to fighting the spread of the disease. "I have traveled to Africa and have made financial contributions there," he said in a written statement. "However there are still 9,000 people a day dying of AIDS. There are so few schools that some children are not being educated. Many are starving and dying of diseases that we just take an aspirin for.
"Many of life’s pleasures that we take advantage of—running water, electricity, paved roads, working toilets, beds and food—are dreams for the majority of our African family. We all share the same commitment and we all care about what happens in our Sister continent, Africa."
Mr. Jackson’s involvement is "welcome" according to one influential African ambassador. "AIDS is a very big problem for the world. Not just for Africa, but the entire world. We know because we’ve been at the forefront of fighting against it," Ambassador Edith Ssempala, from the Republic of Uganda, told The Final Call in an interview.
"This cannot be fought by just one person. It cannot be fought by just one country. It is a fight that we all have to be engaged in, so we definitely welcome Michael’s involvement." Uganda has been one of the most successful African countries in stopping the spread of AIDS, and its three-pronged so-called "A-B-C" approach of abstinence, being faithful to one sexual partner and the use of condoms, has been held up by U.S. officials as a model for the continent where more than 30 million people are living with the AIDS virus.
The entire world must rally now to help Africa, Ambassador Ssempala said. "Africa helped the rest of the world to become who they have become. Europe was helped. Japan was helped. The ‘Asian Tigers’ were helped. That was really an investment in the security of the world."
In response to invitations from several African governments issued in their meeting with him on Capitol Hill, Mr. Jackson pledged a concert tour, and to visit some of their countries, in order to help raise money for AIDS prevention, treatment and education programs.
Mr. Jackson, now 43, has traveled to Africa since he was 12 years old, he told guests at the AASA reception. And he has taken his own children to the continent often for vacations. In fact, he confided Africa is his children’s favorite vacation destination.
Coincidentally, the name of another Black music superstar was being lent to raise awareness in support of African education at the same time as the Jackson visit, according to the African American Newswire (AAN).
Her Royal Highness Nan Ama Ayensuah Saara III, Queen Mother of the Denkyira people in the Central Region of Ghana, West Africa, visited New York March 31 to discuss plans surrounding a major land development project near the slave-trading port of Cape Coast, Ghana. It will be called the "Nina Simone Cultural Village," according to a statement released by AAN. The 50-acre project is scheduled to be dedicated on April 21, the one year anniversary of the death of the sultry Ms. Simone, one of the most popular songwriters, pianists and vocal performers from the late 1950s until her death in 2003.
The African Ambassadors’ Spouses Association (AASA) was founded in 1978 with the mission to provide assistance to programs benefiting underprivileged children in the 51 participating countries. AASA is planning a gala fundraising dinner in Washington on June 4 to raise funds for crippled children. "I will be supporting them in their effort 100 percent," Mr. Jackson said in a statement prepared for delivery at the reception, "and (I) encourage you all to do so.
"We must use whatever resources we have to work together to combat all of these problems. Several members of Congress have pledged their support in our efforts by continuing to raise the awareness of the American people, and to continue their fight for proper funding for programs affecting Africa. This is a good thing and we must support them," Mr. Jackson’s statement said.
"It’s good. It’s very good and we are very happy. Michael wants to help AASA, and he wants to help Africa, for HIV, and for disabled children, so we are happy," Mrs. Haoua Diatta, wife of the Ambassador from Niger and chair of the June 4 gala told The Final Call.

apparently TMZ doesn't check Facebook.

Congresswoman Caught Between MJ and Murray
Originally posted 25 minutes ago by TMZ Staff
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee is in a tough spot ... she's showing up for a Dr. Conrad Murray support rally on Monday, a year after she eulogized Michael Jackson at his memorial in L.A..

The Congresswoman spoke at the Staples Center memorial in L.A. on July 7, 2009, praising Jackson for his humanitarian deeds. She even tried unsuccessfully to get Congress to pass a resolution praising Jackson.

Now fast forward to Monday. Sources tell us the pastors who organized the Murray rally invited the Congresswoman -- their church is in her district. She accepted, we're told because Dr. Murray has done an enormous amount for the community and it's bad politics for her to turn her back on Murray who many of her constituents call "a local hero."

We called Congresswoman Lee's office and the staff was in meltdown. The Chief of Staff says he's only been on the job for 30 days so he didn't know anything. When we requested that he call the Congresswoman and ask her, he hung up on us.

Update: UPDATE: Congresswoman Lee's chief of staff just called TMZ and said, "There is no knowledge of any event. There is no truth to the story."

TMZ makes a big mess with their fabricated stories. I'm sure there will be no supporter or fan of Murray in court on June 14. So far I have not seen these people giving support to Murray in court at other times. These are stories invented by TMZ.... as always.

I do not believe that she has accepted, for it would be very embarrassing for her who was and made a speech at the memorial. :bugeyed

And I'd love to know who are the mysterious sources of TMZ.

For TMZ > :tease:

Re: Dr Murray Rally

I posted on tmz that she wasnt going to be there because 'fans' was bickering back and fourth & no one noticed they just kept bickering.
