The show
Michael Jackson ONE is a state-of-the-art visual and audio experience creating a theatrical evocation of Michael's creative genius. Guided and inspired by his music, four misfits set out on a transformative adventure. By journey's end, they will personify Michael's agility, courage, playfulness and love.
The name
Michael Jackson believed that all people are unique and equal, regardless of race or culture. His message was one of unity, harmony and hope for a better world. At once evocative and enigmatic, the name Michael Jackson ONE also presents a paradox: Michael was a multifaceted artist who strove to fuse together various musical styles and art forms. It is a fitting title for a unifying journey into the world of the King of Pop, the genius, the visionary, the One.
"This is our second project with The Estate of Michael Jackson which confirms how stimulating this creative partnership was meant to be," said Daniel Lamarre, president and CEO of Cirque du Soleil. "Michael Jackson is an all-time phenomenal artist, both timeless and contemporary. As a creative challenge, this project is the ultimate. Through the use of cutting edge technology, we will produce a new Cirque du Soleil theatrical experience not only respectful of Michael's legacy but also very distinctive from Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour."
"We are guided by Michael's own philosophy in all that we do. In preparing for this production, Michael's message to the cast and crew for his This Is It concerts was foremost in our minds. He counseled them on what the audience experience should be: 'They want wonderful experiences. We want to take them places that they've never been before. We want to show them talent like they've never seen before. We're putting love back into the world to remind the world that love is important. WE'RE ALL ONE. That is the message. ' We feel the same, and that is what we are delivering both to lifelong fans and those just discovering his artistic genius with Michael Jackson ONE," stated John Branca and John McClain, Co-Executors of The Estate of Michael Jackson.
Chuck Bowling, Mandalay Bay's president and COO, said, "The partnership with Cirque du Soleil and The Estate of Michael Jackson represents an extraordinary moment for Mandalay Bay. We are in the midst of a major transformation at this resort, introducing a new set of experiences for our guests. Michael Jackson ONE is truly the crown jewel in that transformation and we cannot wait to share this very special production with the world."
Along with Jamie King—who started his career as a dancer on Michael's Dangerous World Tour and also directed the arena touring show Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil—, Michael Jackson ONE will bring together the creative minds behind The Michael Jackson Estate, John Branca and John McClain, and the diverse talents of the following creators:

Let the games begin. Anyone going to stay up late on the 22nd so they could get the best tickets!

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I love the logo so much. I think it's the best one I have seen of any project that the estate has done. I really hope to see the show someday if possible.

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I like how they did the reveal at the press conference. The dancing and the outfits were great and with the MJ graphics goin on in the back. Then having MJs This Is It speech where he says in the end we're all ONE.
That was awesome, as if he were introducing the show himself! :punk:

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

OMG!!!! SOOOOO PUMPED! it would be an absolute dream to be able to see this! not the type to travel around the world to see a show but I'm gonna have to start planning for a trip to the US!

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

This is off topic but here is a video of someone who did a lego version of MJ dancing, as in Black or White coda. It's amazing!

http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat...ch_the_video_by_annette_jung_and_talking.html

Also, I am VERY psyched about MJ ONE!!! Hope it will be great and that I get to see it!! Maybe they will have a museum there too??

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I love the new logo, great:clapping:

I'm going to buy a lotto ticket, and if I win, I'll book my tickets to see this:woohoo:

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

Breaking News is in the show. Just saying..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKBvWMgAmlM

And all the promises Branca gave to the fans at Bad25 premiere. All lies..

I didn't hear anything saying it's in the show. On the other hand (and I'm saying this as someone who has moved on from the Michael album disaster and who isn't still obsessing about the Cascio songs), hopefully NONE of the Cascio songs will be used for the show. Really, they should forget those songs and accept that they are controversial and many fans do not consider them legitimate MJ songs, but fakes.

Yeah, but JUST the dialogue part from what I can see? At least the actual fake vocals weren't used. I can get over the dialogue being used as it fits with tabloid junkie.

Let's make a correction shall we? INTRO from breaking news which only happens to be vocal talents and got nothing to do with Cascio vocals is in the introduction dance. It's not the song, it's not the controversial vocals and you have no idea if this dance is from the show or if it was just prepared for the press release and one time thing.

I'm sorry to say but you are overly exaggerating.

thats what I thought had to watch again to see if I missed bits of the song. I don't think they'd be that silly. Even though Monster was used in immortal, at least fake vocals weren't used just "the king has risen" line. That and the intros from breaking news I can get over.

Anyone else reminded of captain eo with regards to the video with the white costumes??? Nice touch

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I watched the press conference this morning. 2 things:

1) a bit disappointed at the missed opportunity. The preview doesn't scream "Run, buy your ticket"...It was bland. It would have been a great time to show acrobats, because that was the single most recurring critic against Immortal (Which brings me to point 2)

2) Cirque of MJ have a problem on their hand, they have to convince people that ONE will not be a rehash of IMMORTAL...and that's where that preview failed. People dancing around a stage? Where have we seen that before...? IMMORTAL.

I wish they had a nice cute video prepared instead of ...whatever that was.

Notice on the Cirque official page, most people are clamoring they had ALREADY seen the show. Tsk Tsk...That's because casual fans and / or the public are confusing IMMORTAL & ONE...Cirque Of MJ needs to hammer the fact that this is a NEW show. More acrobacy-focused.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing this. But I really expect a mind-blowing, ground-breaking experience....bigger than "O"...

Is it too late to ask for an MJ-hologram? I hate impersonators ...but an MJ-hologram would be all kind of epic.

ETA: The highlight of the press conference, for me, was that little MJ speech at the end 3>

Monster isn't in Immortal anymore. It was removed at the start of the European leg.

Oh I know, I saw it in London, but I was referring to the soundtrack. I'm not ecstatic it's on there, but at least it's just 50s bit with no questionable vocals. Same he I don't mind the intro of BN being used at all.

If they really want to differentitate from "Immortal" then they should hire a new director instead of Jamie KIng.
I like to see a more artistic approach instead of just dancing around the stage.

Plus the costume from that guy designer doesn't help. it's hard sometimes to associate the song, music with that type of costume.

They probably will release a trailer sometimes in the coming month.

I absolutely agree with everything you said. Jamie King is not the right man for this job. Maybe they should have contacted Kenny Ortega. Zaldy's costumes are "too much" in my opinion, like real circus. Michael Bush would be the right designer.

But I'm most disappointed with musical director - Kevin Antunes again, the guy who never worked with MJ. Brad Buxer & Michael Prince would be perfect in my opinion.

This will be exactly the same type of the show, just different location and no live band.

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

How can we complain if we havent even seen it yet .. why so negative ?
I bet it will be a GREAt success :)

I disagree...I think Jamie King can definitely meet the challenge. MJ used Kenny Ortega how many times...? I understand the challenge they had with Immortal (traveling from city to city) ..but ONE has all the potential to wow the crowd.

Using the same creative director is not the problem...neither is using the same costume designer. I think Zaldy did a fantastic job with the "This is It" costumes....ditto for Immortal.

By the way, I am not CRITIQUING the show...(None of us has seen it so I think it's a tad bit early to belittle King & Zaldy's work). My only issue was with hundreds of media present, they didn't use the moment to really demonstrate what kind of show this is gonna be.

Jamie & Altidor kept going on and on about merging dance & acrobacy, but when the time came to really showcase they 18-month work, they resorted to....dancing alone.

"O", which is a 15 year old show, is the benchmark for me.....If ONE isn't bigger, better, more awe-inspiring, more technology driven than "O"...Then, yeah...I will ask Branca & Lamarre for my money back.

I'm talking about what we've seen in the press conference. I didn't like the costumes (pure Zaldy), I didn't like the choreography (too much dancing, no Cirque artistic and acrobatic performances). I didn't like the music mix (the same type of medleys with too much effects, just like in the Immortal soundtrack - Kevin Antunes.

I hope I'm wrong, but that preview from the press conference was just Immortal Part II.

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

Well the Immortal Album and Immortal tour were a GREAT success. In fact they are extending the Immortal tour becuase it is such a Great success. Which goes to show your own personal opinion of the album and show is just that .. I understand not every one likes the sae things but Just because you or some didn't care for it doesn't mean it isn't a great show .. Not every feels the same. Based on Immortals success the Majority loved it and look forward to the New Show ..

Most likely no acrobats in the preview because it was a small stage not set up for that with rigging and all. but most would understand there will be acrobats in the show .. but IMO a Michael show should incorporate more dancing and more of his visuals on screen .. with some acrobatics in the mix to bring it all together.

Most MJ fans were not complaining about not enough acrobatics in Immortal it was the general public who were expecting to see a traditional Cirq show .. Which it was stated up front Immortal was not traditional. It was a different more innovative show created just for Michael .. with more dancing included.
