Cirque du Soleil 'Michael Jackson ONE' permanent Las Vegas show

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

How can we complain if we havent even seen it yet .. why so negative ?
I bet it will be a GREAt success :)

Yeah!!! Where did all the happiness go? I just bought my seat for the first day & I am already excited. I hope there are more fans buying tickets and ready to have an enjoyable experience.

Morenin I guess they are focusing on the Preview tickets & then they will get into the June dates.

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

Most MJ fans were not complaining about not enough acrobatics in Immortal it was the general public who were expecting to see a traditional Cirq show .. Which it was stated up front Immortal was not traditional. It was a different more innovative show created just for Michael .. with more dancing included.

I liked Immortal, but for ONE to be a success they DO need the general public to like it, not just MJ fans. In Las Vegas the competition is incredibly huge. There are several Cirque shows going on too. If the general public doesn't get the expected amount of Cirque acrobatics from the MJ show they will choose something else instead. I just want it to be a big success and I hope Cirque also learnt from the mistakes and failure of the Elvis show and the critique that was raised regarding the Immortal show (ie. too little acrobatics).

I remember that John Branca said in one of the magazine articles about the show that each seat will have it's own speakers.

Also, it says the following in the list of credits on the One press release: "Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon – Creators for the scene Man in the Mirror"

I looked these guys up and they do shows that use holographic projections so it looks like the performer is actually interacting with the hologram. Intriguing...

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

Guys we don't know yet that the show does not have sufficient acrobatic elements in it. How about asking the people in charge & let them answer back? Then, we could discuss this more intelligently. I mean when we have questions about everything, e.g., Spike doc, the cans, Bad25 video, didn't we ask questions & then get back some appropriate answers? Maybe we should not always rush with the negative expectations at first. I see this as being a pattern among us, & I think we should re-evaluate how we all respond to news or information. I hope I have offended no one.

Stella good points!! Now that is exciting!

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I disagree...I think Jamie King can definitely meet the challenge. MJ used Kenny Ortega how many times...? I understand the challenge they had with Immortal (traveling from city to city) ..but ONE has all the potential to wow the crowd.

Using the same creative director is not the problem...neither is using the same costume designer. I think Zaldy did a fantastic job with the "This is It" costumes....ditto for Immortal.

By the way, I am not CRITIQUING the show...(None of us has seen it so I think it's a tad bit early to belittle King & Zaldy's work). My only issue was with hundreds of media present, they didn't use the moment to really demonstrate what kind of show this is gonna be.

Jamie & Altidor kept going on and on about merging dance & acrobacy, but when the time came to really showcase they 18-month work, they resorted to....dancing alone.

"O", which is a 15 year old show, is the benchmark for me.....If ONE isn't bigger, better, more awe-inspiring, more technology driven than "O"...Then, yeah...I will ask Branca & Lamarre for my money back.

Well, if you are impressed with "O' maybe becaused it's completely produced by cirque.
For me, I am not impressed with Jamie KIng or Zaldy. I saw Immortal and what I like most is the stage design, the background, the music but not so much on the dancing part.

I guess I like to see it more cirque-like production. Choreography is more detailed and artistic, more acrobats drills. Things that can impressed you.
it's still early, so will see what's the new guy Altidor fron cirque can come up with?

Go to this official website and see what' s i mean- type of dance , choreography, costume from cirque - amazing

Main in the mirror probably will be the main attraction of the show.
The speaker part is probably like the Michael Jackson video game that they have on the strip where the seat is powered with speaker, motion and moving everytime the song is played.

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I don't remember Beatles LOVE have a lot of acrobats. It's more a theatrical show, very atmospheric and about Beatles music. I'd love MJ show to be in the same spirit. People should feel his magic. :)

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I am not going to judge too much on this small preview. Why? Because for example when you see a movie preview at theaters or on tv it's not most of the time what you think it is when you actually see the movie. If you have to wait and see the whole show what it's about.

They know this show has to be different than Immortal. They are the ones that keep emphasizing that. I don't mean to offend anyone when I say this but there is nothing to feel negative about yet. It hasn't even started. I understand the worry and concern but the enjoyment of looking forward to something gets sucked out before anything happens. I want to think positive and wait and see. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Marebear ^^ yes it seems that would be a good way to view it.

Anyone else got tickets?

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I have a question, I remember a few months people were saying they may use a mj hologram ...that won't happen right ? Otherwise they would have announce it by now ...what do you guys think ?

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

As far as the dancing I saw in the video, it mde me realize how much I miss MJ's dancing--how graceful he was. The dancers seemed very jerky and frenetic and not smooth and graceful, but I am sure they will get it together by Opening Night. I liked Immortal for the presence of Michael--the live music, the big screen, his voice--his VOICE!!! Also the Cirque dancers were good, but without the rest I wouldn't have enjoyed it so much. I loved the big screen image of MJ on his toes--that was soooo beautiful!

Yes, we will see. The reactions are to the teaser which doesn't promise anything new compared to Immortal. Of course, that doesn't mean there won't be. I'm only expressing the hope there will be, because an Immortal-like show won't be enough in Vegas to wow the masses. A lot more first class acrobatics is definitely required. Michael deserves the best.

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

uhm does everyone realize that the announcement was done in a regular conference room which was not suitable for acrobatics?

There's nothing to say for sure that this performance was a final dance sequence that'll be at the show. It can very well be a one of a time dance prepared for the conference according to the limitations of the space it's being held.

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I am so very very positive about this!!

I am going to Vegas and see it when I can, do doubt !!!

It will be great!! - And it will be full scale as it is a permanent location!! - MJ's spirit will be there, no doubt!!

Keep the Legacy alive! - Great job!

Michael Jackson's New Vegas Show 'One' Will Double The Fun

Michael Jackson pulled in an estimated $145 million last year from beyond the grave–tens of millions more than any living musician. A big part of that: his Immortal World Tour, a joint venture between the Michael Jackson Estate and Cirque du Soleil. It grossed $160 million in its first leg, tops among North American tours in 2012.

On the heels of that success, Jackson’s estate and Cirque du Soliel have announced another endeavor: Michael Jackson One, a brand-new show set to run indefinitely at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, set to debut in preview form on May 23rd, 2013. The official premiere will follow on June 29th, 2013.

“Michael Jackson is an all-time phenomenal artist, both timeless and contemporary,” said Cirque chief Daniel Lamarre in a statement. “As a creative challenge, this project is the ultimate. Through the use of cutting edge technology, we will produce a new Cirque du Soleil theatrical experience not only respectful of Michael’s legacy but also very distinctive from Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour.”

The new show means that Michael Jackson will soon be able to do something that no artist has ever done before: play two arena shows at the same time. Even as fans gather for the first performance of One in Vegas on May 23rd, the same thing will be happening on the other side of the world as the Immortal World Tour rolls into Nagoya, Japan. Just hours after the official Vegas premier the following month, Immortal will take the stage in Taipei, Taiwan.

Directed by Jamie King, the plot of Michael Jackson One will follow four misfits as they embark upon a musical, visual, theatrical adventure. The title of the show reflects its inspiration and recurring theme–unity and peace–the sort of themes Jackson explored in songs like “Man In The Mirror” and “Heal The World.”

Said estate co-executors John Branca and John McClain in a statement:

We are guided by Michael’s own philosophy in all that we do. In preparing for this production, Michael’s message to the cast and crew for his This Is It concerts was foremost in our minds. He counseled them on what the audience experience should be: ‘They want wonderful experiences. We want to take them places that they’ve never been before. We want to show them talent like they’ve never seen before. We’re putting love back into the world to remind the world that love is important. WE’RE ALL ONE. That is the message.’ We feel the same, and that is what we are delivering both to lifelong fans and those just discovering his artistic genius with Michael Jackson One.”

In addition to being a brilliant entertainer–taking millions places they hadn’t been through music and videos alike–Jackson was also quite a savvy businessman in his day (a theme I’m exploring in my upcoming book, Michael Jackson, Inc., due out next year for Simon & Schuster).

He outmaneuvered billionaires and music executives to acquire ATV, the company that owned the Beatles’ publishing catalog, for $47.5 million in 1985. That investment is now worth somewhere around $1 billion.

It seems Jackson the musician would have enjoyed the notion of his songs reaching potentially twice as many people through two Cirque du Soleil shows–and it’s likely that Jackson the businessman would have been quite pleased by the financial implications as well.

Yes I understand you are responding to the teaser. I also understand that you are saying based on the teaser they need to have more acrobatics to make this show a lasting engagement that would attract the general public. I agree with you, but we do not know to what extent what we saw represents the main character of One.

I understand what Memefan is saying that she felt they should show something that grips people and make them want to go out & see this show. However, maybe that performance did grip masses of other people who like "white, glitter, Michael's voice & image, & dance." These are all subjective experiences.

We have to admit that as Cirque traveled, they remodeled the show as they saw what worked best, what audiences wanted, & what attracted the most attention, so don't you think that after all that experience they wouldn't pay attention to what would make One really work as a permanent show in Vegas?

Waw about the Robin Leach comment ^^. I believe that because I bought my ticket on the first pre-sale day for the first day performance and there was less than 20 choices for me to choose from in the orchestra. The whole area had the grey color indicating no available seats. I am very glad about the fan turnout, especially since the pre-sale was not blasted all over the media yet.

How about that book!! I did not understand who is writing it. Is it Branca or McClain, or both of them; I didn't get that part. Anyway a book showing what a good business man Michael was would be a welcome addition to my collection.

Oh, I see. Thank you Annita. Do you know anything about him from his other writings. Have you read any of his works personally?

He wrote many good articles for Forbes in the last years about MJ and his buisiness. When you go in the link you can see some of them.

Re: BIG News from MJ Estate and Cirque du Soleil [ Update Pg 5 Post #69]

I hope it will be a great success for many.many years.
Michael , you are the one and only

I think you set the wrong expectations. This was not a show preview. It was just an announcement. simple as that.

Just name me one press conference where MJ demonstrated what kind of concert he's expected to perform in.

^^Can you remember if it was us who started the news about a hologram, or was it the estate? Sometimes we write about things we would like, & the next thing you know, fans start posting it as though it is reality, then we forget it was just us daydreaming in the first place.
