Well it seems they've certainly got the sales too:

"As of April 2020, BTS have sold over 20 million physical albums in less than 7 years, making them the best-selling Korean act of all time." — from Wikipedia.

I get it your a fan and that’s cool. I’m sure I like artist other don’t. It just bothers me that they lump this group in with MJ. It’s not even close and I really doubt that Wikipedia information is correct. I’m sure they are really popular in Korea it seems most of the numbers come from there. Good luck to the lads! We all have something in common our love for MJ

Views are not sales. I don’t care how they like to spin it. Streams and views will never be sales in my book. I can remember as a kid how popular MJ was during Thriller he would have broken the internet in his prime. They had to press so many copies of Thriller because it sold so fast, I can remember having to return albums to the store when they came right out of the package they so many so fast the release it’s was warped.
If the internet & streaming existed back then, Thriller wouldn't have sold much either. Something always replaces what came before. 45s replaced 78s. Cassettes replaced 8-track tapes. CDs replaced records/tapes. Napster was the beginning of the end for physical sales. Even back then a lot of people bought street tapes, which were bootlegs of albums. They were a lot cheaper than the official records & tapes. Others bought music from "12 albums for 1 penny" record clubs. Or they got their friends to copy a record to a tape. So people always tried to get something for less. The internet made it free, so people don't place the same value on physical music. They buy video game discs which cost a lot more than CDs. GTA5 has sold more than any other entertainment item in history including the Thriller album.

Current living artist that is more popular I would say Garth Brooks. Next time your out ask 10 people if they have every heard of BTS then do the same for Garth. That’s how you view popularity not by YouTube view from teenagers.
Why would Garth be more popular? Because he's white? He has 7 diamond albums in the USA, but his record sales were primarily in the 1990s. I doubt he sells the same today and his new songs are not on the radio stations that plays new country songs. He's over a certain age to get radio hits. How popular is Garth in Asian countries where I would guess BTS is more popular? Country music is primarily popular in the USA anyway.

I'm not a fan. i didn't even know about them until this. i also i don't even know who Garth Brooks is until i look him up. i'm not really into today music like that i'm pretty much old school when it comes to music etc. yes i'm kind of old fashion. :D i been looking at the charts and yes with everyone here their are up there with michael music wise. none of us know where their will be in 10 years. since somebody said they been out quite while and this is their comeback.

so good luck to them. even if they do break off it won't be no different like other music groups. so their no different.

I'm not a fan actually. I just looked up "BTS album sales" on Google. Given how immense their fan base is, and not just in Asia, and what I've seen about their sales in other places I don't think Wikipedia is wrong.

Your point is what? That is from years and/or decades of sales. It has nothing to do with who is the most popular right now this year. BTS is a newer younger group. The majority of the top 50 highest sellers are white male rock acts. All that means is that white people buy more records by white guys than by any other race or by female artists. That is a reason Elvis has sold way more than Little Richard & Chuck Berry or that Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, & the Rolling Stones sold more than the black blues artists that inspired their music (or straight copied on some songs without giving credit in Zeppelin's case). It can also mean that white people are more likely to buy records in general. There is a reason that crossover existed. Artists sold more and got more media coverage if white people bought their records. At one time in the USA, music by black singers/bands was officially called "race music". In the modern era, hip hop does not have to crossover like other forms of black music did and still does. Hip hop is automatically played as mainstream pop music, that's how Drake, Lil Wayne, & Nicki Minaj has managed to get more Hot 100 hits than anybody else including The Beatles & Elvis.

You said something about determining popularity by asking 10 people. I can ask 10 Mexicans if they heard of Vicente Fernandez or Cantinflas and there is a good chance all will know them. I can ask 10 white people the same thing and it's likely few if any would know them. People tend to buy their own race/ethnicity over another. Black people in general are likely to have more records by black artists than white artists, Puerto Ricans will have more Puerto Ricans or maybe just Latino artists in general, and so on with other races.

BTS donated $1 million to Black Lives Matter in the wake of the George Floyd murder, and the BTSArmy matched it. i'm not a fan but shoutout to them on what their doing. Michael would be proud.

I’ve been a fan/army of BTS a few years. Absolutely love them. Delighted to hear Taj is now a fan.

The Grammys are a joke. So many artists were hosed this year that deserved recognition. Most notably the Weekend. MJ knew the this first hand.

I agree. there are so many artists that didn't get recognition. to be honest i don't watch award shows anymore. they all rigged now in my opinion. yes The Weeknd said the samething even Kanye West did too early this year. it's really sad. Michael should of won more Grammys than he did in his lifetime. they did it to off the wall, bad, history, and dangerous. michael had more then just 88 Grammys. they knew what they was doing. but like i said that why i don't watch award shows anymore. i think the days actually winning something for hard work any doesn't exist anymore.

i also find it crazy how all rock artists this year are all females. crazy.

as for BTS while their a new artist of the usa. in my opinion they deserve a Grammy. that's a win for them and michael and i'm not even a fan. i'm just glad what they did for michael and the fan community etc.

some fans are fans of both artists so to me this nothing wrong. i hope they win. but we'll see next year who the winners are.

The Grammy Awards are, most of the time, a matter of politics and behind-the-scenes machinations.

For example, Michael Jackson lost the ‘Best Pop Male Vocal Performance’ 1988 Grammy Award (which Sting won).

Michael Jackson also lost the ‘Record Of The Year’ 1988 Grammy Award (which Paul Simon won).

He lost two those Grammy Awards simply because it was A&M and WEA record companies’ turn to win this time.

English music entrepreneur Jonathan King (a man who knew the ropes in the music industry) revealed it.

“…Michael should have swept the board. But, this year it was A&M and WEA record companies’ turn to win and that’s why Sting and Paul Simon got their [Grammy] awards…” (Jonathan King, 1988)

So, these two Grammy awards were pre-planned to go to other record companies’ artists.

I feel bad for the weeknd. he most definitely should of been nominated for some grammys next year. but shoutout to BTS. like Michael said the grammys are full of it. i don't even watch award shows anymore to be honest.
