It's one of those rare yet inspiring MJ moments that happen in a fan's life. For the years that I have known Beat It and listened to it, at this stage, I would consider it one of those songs that you just listen to so much that you skip it on your Ipod eventually. As I normally would when beat it comes up i quickly skip it and listen to another MJ song that is less listened and 'worn'.
However, as I was walking down the street today, everything was so unusually quiet, there was absolutely no sound around me. And then "Beat It" 's "DUHM DUHM-DUHM" kicks into my ears with such clarity. And it just captured me, as sharp and quick as a bird who takes flight. Normally when I listen MJ songs, it's also somewhat diminished by the sounds around you, people talking, people dancing, cars passing, partying. With only the obvious melody.
But today, i clearly heard the bass that was so hardcore and so street tough. Suddenly the 'worn out' melody faded and all the bases, guitars and drums came to life - the "background". The little things, the details of the song were just shimmering. I loved it, absolutely adored it. I so dig the complexity of the song. But that introduction, dam, i think that incredible feeling i experienced today would be very hard to get rid off.
This got me thinking. When everyone is rushing here and there, and just enjoying MJ's music, whether it's in the car, in the house, at a party, at work at a concert, there's always so many distractions. However, I think every MJ song deserves a quiet moment. When our world stops, and we truly listen to every note, every detail, every brilliance of the song and let the sounds just overwhelm us. And suddenly, we will find ourselves loving the song even more.
