All of MJ's life the press singled him out eg. acting like he was the only celebraty to EVER have plastic surgary.

Well anyway, TMZ has just said that Billy May's died with a lot of Drugs in his system including hydrocodone, oxycodone, alprazolam, nordiazepam, benzoylecgonine (byproduct of cocaine) and temazepam (anti-anxiety). Ethanol (alcohol) was also in his system.

Whole Story=http://www.tmz.com/2009/08/07/autopsy-cocaine-a-factor-billy-mays-death/]

Well I was just thinking if that was MJ the Press would be all over that it would be on every news channel and they wouldn't shut up about it, but with him they take no notice !! its totally not fair, even if there was only Propofol in his body administered by a stupid doctor they would still never let it go I hate the press !!

it really is a shame, isn't it? the problem started with his team feeding the media weird things back in the day and then him shutting out the media so they turned their backs on him and once they dubbed him that hideous nickname, it sold papers and therefore stuck. they know that the more horrifying that they make him, the more papers/clicks they will sale....sad

very true, I hope thet are ashamed, but knowing the media I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't

I was thinking the same about the Billy Mays thing. They found cocaine in his body. If that was Michael...oh my gosh, it would be a circus. The media and tabloids would eat their hearts out to that. They'd be ALL OVER IT.

Not fair and they should be ashamed. It's digusting what they do...

""the bigger the star the bigger the target"

Exactly.

In normal life, if one's different from ordinary people and doesn't go with the flow, one always finds people who like him a lot and others, who don't like him at all. Especially ordinary people often don't like it, when someone's different, maybe they feel threatened in a way.

I think with Michael, it's the same. On the one hand, there are people who love him, and others, who don't (but all of them, even the ones who don't like him listen to his music, lol).

That's what the media want. They don't sell their magazines, if they write about ordinary people, who are not very special and therefore liked by everyone, but also wouldn't be missed much if they were not there.
Like Michael said... big star= big target for the media.

Maybe the customers of the tabloids like not liking people (or the media think they don't), because most of the time the tabloids don't write positive about anyone...

There are several reasons why Mike was picked out all the times. The biggest reason was cuz he was always top on the game.I have seen and read lots of things in past few yrs and I have realized it was especially after tht Beatles Catalogue purchase. The moment he started making big business moves he was labelled Freak, yeah to some level his P.R team was also responsible but I dont take it as a huge reason. There was undoubtedly some jealousy once he started gettin bigger and bigger in music world.Til Thriller he was most talented guy but after that he was becoming most successful and wealthy Artist which to many ppl in industry wasnt acceptable. Many people says cuz of Racism but I dont think its all racism,I think racism is one of the factors. There are lots of other Black Celebrities we have and they dont get picked up like Michael, you know why cuz they are not as successful as Michael. Will Smith is really very successful but he dont get picked up cuz he is still not on the top of game. There is no one who can match up with Mike and that kind of success will always turn ppl against you.Gladys Knight said there are very few indivusuals who are alowed to have that kind of fame but I dont think so.There was only Michael Jackson who was allowed to have that kind of fame, there is no one else.If Mike continued to be a Artist and never bought Beatles then I can bet nobody would ever pick him out the way they did. That was the deal which turned people against him,I have seen in lots of non MJ forums ppl just dont like him cuz he bought Beatles and they think Mike backstabbed Paul which to me personally is bullshit. It was fair deal and Mike won the bid and gained control over Beatles Catalogue.Press is full of shit especially when it comes about Michael Jackson and we will never see the day when they will tell the complete truth about Michael Jackson.Only fans will know cuz they spend time studying the facts about MJ and use their own minds.General public have mindset and if they see anything on TV,for them its true.Thats how this world works and ofcourse press too.And come on how can we even expect truth from press, they have degraded him too much, they have said so many wrong things about him so now if they speak the truth then they will look like idiots and loose lots of customers.

MONEY TALKS!!!ITS OUR RELIGION,WE CAN KILL GOD FOR MONEY!!

Thats the truth of today's society.:(

Its Because he's Black. Think about, its always a white person who criticises him at all times (probably a republican). There will always be a small MINORITY who can't take the fact that a black person became the King of the World.

P.S. I'm Indian, so I can see things right down the middle.

I hate saying this but even though we saw him as a loving, caring human being the media saw him as a BRAND. The Michael Jackson Brand. He sold papers & magazines, all they care about is money, they dont care who they hurt, and yes because Michael was such a huge star the more crazy stories they made up to make more money. Sick isnt it and very sad.
Also, i loved Michael because he was different, original and didnt care what people thought, but the media dont like different, instead they ridicule someone for beig different and standing out, there like bullies in a playground that wont stop.
I feel as though there jealous to of what Michael had and what he brought to the world, i guess they really are THE GHOSTS OF JEALOUSY, and they'll always be lurking around.

I tend to agree with the statement as one of the big reasons.

Michael has gotten flack from people of several ethnic backgrounds (including black) but there seems to be and has always been a disproportionate amount who happen to be non-black.

I guess it goes back to who has power in America though...especially media.

Yes, I agree he was different but what I say is being wierd or different, is better then just blending in and getting unnoticed

Michael was singled out because things were happening to him that we didn't understand. People thought he was bleaching his skin, they assumed he was changing appearance to not look like his father, and being a major superstar it drew him a lot of attention and people latched onto it like a drug and scrutinized him on everything he did, including making up rumours that weren't true. I think there was also a lot of racism and jealousy involved too since he was an extremely rich and successful black man.

I think of myself in this context and it helps me understand why some people get singled out and bullied. I was very creative and displayed unusual behaviour and despite being from a working class family we had a big house, a big car, and our home was finely decorated. Children who weren't as well off as we were were jealous of me and latched onto my unusual behaviour. As years went on and I was more and more isolated in school with a very tiny circle of friends I fully trusted, I was drawing more attention to my unusual behaviour including some that were being made up. There was nothing I could do that was not scrutinized on. If I ate too much I was accused of being a fat pig, if I stopped eating in desperation to lose weight I was accused of attention seeking by going anorexic, if I took part in events I was laughed and jeered at. Eventually it got too much that I started cutting my wrists and I got mocked for that too.

What Michael went through was a typical playground bully behaviour. Many of us still haven't learned to grow out of the phase of picking on someone for their differences and allowing a mixture of fear of the unknown and jealousy make us behave maliciously towards those we don't want to learn to understand and accept while making ourselves feel stronger on their unhappiness.

What can we do to stop this from happening to someone else in the future? Well we can try to learn to understand and accept things we don't know about. We can try to get along and become more accepting of the people around us and not let jealousy get the best of us. We can stop buying the tabloids and listening to the gossip that sells by running people down. We can try to learn to stop judging one another and instead learn to love one another. It's a big step for the human race to make such a radical change in the way we treat and think of one another, but it's something that's been asked of us since the day the 10 commandments were written. They were written not to restrict us, but in an attempts that we would become better people at the end of the day and a more loving and caring world that wasn't motivated by greed, jealousy, disrespect, and behaviour that could hurt not only ourselves but those around us. Even though we have been redeemed of our wrongful acts by defying the commandments through the death and resurrection of Jesus it's still an idea to try to at least abide by them as best we can as they are there to help make the world a more better and loving place to live in.

Im soo sorry to hear what you have been through, I hope its all over with, and I fully agree with you. What happened to Michael and Yourself is uncalled for and unnecessary!

Well, my post wasn't for people to feel sorry for me, although I do thank you for your kind words. :) It was to help people understand that when it comes to school bullying and the way Michael was picked on by the media that it's virtually the same thing.
