New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged) *No Links*

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

Just a little note here about INVINCIBLE.
*
Many people are influenced by the media hype. Thriller indeed was a revolutionary album thanks to the new sound, the original concept of a video story like Thriller and Beat it. The moonwalk, etc. Also, when Michael had his hair and head burned during the pepsi commercial, everyone thought he was going to die, so that event boosted record sales.
*
However, don't get fooled by the hype created by the media, that is to say not much hype during INVINCIBLE era. INVINCIBLE was so badly promoted that it gave impression that it was a weak album. Without much promotion it sold 7 000 000 albums the first year (with only one video at that time - YRMW).*
*
Now imagine if there were videos for other songs. Can you only imagine the video for THREATENED? I believe that many new fans even don't know the guy speaking in the beginning of the song, but it comes from a cult series TWILIGHT ZONE from the 80s. Can you only imagine how 2000 WATTS video could look like - electrifying! Michael had a lot of ideas and probably to do things in 3-D, which SONY refused due to the high costs michael's ideas demanded.*
*
When Michael writes a song, he does more than that, he visualizes it, and without a proper video our imagination is WEAK!
*
What if THRILLER video was simply sang without any dance or story, the same for BEAT IT, don't you think that THRILLER too could have been a weak album? What if there was no moonwalk during BILLIE JEAN performance? I bet those songs would still eb great, but not as much as what Michael made us see! He made us visualize his music, and unfortunately he didn't have that opportunity with INVINCIBLE.

Michael only independently wrote two songs on Invincible. So there goes the theory that he was visualising while writing Invincible - there are more songwriters on the lead track then there are on the complete BAD album! So whatever he was 'visualising', he'd only be 'visualising' a percent of each track!

I've never known a music video to actually change the sound of a record. Beat It and Billie Jean are masterpieces. With or without their videos.

2000 Watts isn't. And no 3D glasses will make me see it any clearer. What are you suggesting? That only music with big budget videos supporting it is any good? Amy Winehouse didn't have big budget videos for her Back To Black album. That didn't stop it being critically and commercially lauded.

If you like the song, good. I don't. I'm not trying yo convince anybody else to agree with me.

You sound as if Mike didn't have his word to say for Invincible. Let me remind you that Michael didn't write THRILLER song, yet he had a vision for it (which contradicts your statement), which we cannot deny it, revolutionized the industry of music videos! He could have done the same with INVINCIBLE.

Exactly!!!

I am happy to hear Michael's voice on a new song yet minority of fans are busy criticising the song.

*sigh* Michael you really are in a better place!

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

Thriller the album as a whole is overrated, Beat It and Billie Jean only became classics because of the huge hits they were, Michael had tons of better songs on both his earlier albums and later albums than those two. I'm glad however that the album Thriller is overrated because Michael as an artist is underrated. Dangerous is way better than Thriller in my opinion.

Same here.

Some of you need to leave samhabib alone. We are all entitled to our opinions and different tastes, no need to attack someone just because they don't like a song you like.

For example "beat it" was written in before Off the wall came out, but was not included on off the wall.

Never heard this before. Source?

Michael himself said it in one of his interviews a long time ago. At the time he just didn't dare to share everything he created.

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

can we stop the arguments and enjoy Michael's talent. I am mesmerized by Michael's voice, and I keep listening this song for hours. I am totally addicted to his voice.
No offense, but Lenny's version just further proved how great and special Michael was.

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

Can't believe people go in to arguing when we actually get something new from Mike. Like in the first pages, its joy, thats how its suppose to be. Only.

Wow. I always felt it was written to a brief. Quincy wanted a black 'My Sharona' and Michael unveiled Beat It.

I can't find the passage where Michael expressed it, even though I've been looking for it. The fact is however is that he always has his song in mind before putting it directly on the album about to come out. Very often he keeps it for the album that comes after, soemtimes reworks some sounds or arrangements.

But I'll give you another example, which many probably ignore. The song Thriller was not written by Mike, but neither by Rod Temperton. It was written way before by an Italian artist. He sang it, and it wasn't as huge hit as Michael sang it in the video. So if the song is really good, how come it wasn't as successful as before Michael's performance and video? I don't recollect however that Rod Temperton was attacked for plagiarism.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer Michael's version and all little musical arrangements and details you hear in Michael's version, I love it.

Samhabib- I totally believe you have every right to your opinions - you don't like Invincible that is quite clear- which is fine. But to call Michael delusional was pretty harsh don't you think ?- because he liked it doesn't mean he's delusional - again he is entitled to his opinion also. I can't imagine Michael would tell you you're delusional because you didn't like it.
The other point I want to make is you have to realize that a lot of us are still very sensitive about Michael's passing, and a little sensitivity from your part would help. It is clear the majority of us loved it and maybe it was extra special because we are yearning to hear anything new by him. Let us enjoy that please. Stop with the negative. - Peace and L.O.V.E to you - spread that Michael message!

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

I believe that many new fans even don't know the guy speaking in the beginning of the song, but it comes from a cult series TWILIGHT ZONE from the 80s.

Your probably right about "new" fans not knowing the inspiration for Threatened. But I'd add that an "older" fan as yourself needs to do some more research on just when the Twilight Zone comes from, it was already a classic in the 80's. The "Guy" speaking is Rod Serling and he was long dead by the time the 80's (remake) Twilight Zone came to pass.
All clips used in the song were from the original series which ran during the late 50's to mid 60's.

Threatened would have indeed been an amazing video, such a lost opportunity.

As for this new song! Wow! I'm pretty sure this comes from the sessions in 2000 with Lenny. From what I have heard from 98-2000 the songs MJ was recording were very different than the Invincible album we ended up getting. Could do without the rap stuff honestly. But this is the "rock" track that Invincible lacked.

MJ made albums, so all the songs needed to flow. So a scrapped track doesn't always mean it was crap or no good, it just means it didn't fit well with the albums feel, in MJ's opinion. If this song is a testimony to what else is lurking in the vaults, then WOW.

I was simply talking, not arguing, debating or writing a thesis, so I didn't feel necessary to dig out all the names and dates. Anyway, Twilight Zone, as you put it well was already a classic in the 80s, so as Michael was, I just associated the two. Thanks for reminding me the name of Rod Serling.

its sooo beautiful!!!! MJ MJ MJ!!!

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

I found one on youtube that starts slightly different, With Michael saying " Girl I wanna groove " It Sounds sooooo good! :wild:
BUT I cant think if that is just from something else and has been added?
I really cant think of anything it could be, and sounds new to me.
I don't wanna look silly if it's from something else  I don't think so though...
So it's gotta be how the song starts maybe?

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

Concerning "THRILLER", I was wrong about the Italian singer, it was actually a Spanish singer: the title of the song is "EXORCISMO" from 1966!!! sang by Luixy Toledo.

Check it out:

Ok, it's not exactly the same note for note, but amazingly way too similar to be a coincidence. I wonder if Rod Temperton really penned it in the 80s.

 I love that! I think that sound byte is for the introduction (MYG Productions) before the video starts, not part of the actual track. Thanks for posting it though, I've never heard it before :wild:

It's just that in this comminity, we try keeping things as positiv as possible regarding Michael and his work.

Meh, meh, my last post about this.

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

I just wanna say that you guys that are fighting and arguing in here are so d*** pathetic. Do you guys really think that Michael would had wanted his own fans to argue about a song he created? whether its from 2001 or 2009 ... or "I dont like the song" blalba ...

Michael Jackson just wanted to create and make good music to the world and his fans .. Where is the respect for him? We should all be happy he created songs that could be released after his death. We should thank him, pray to him and thank him again.

Do u guys think Michael want his own fans to argue with each other?

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

That song really is just so totally amazing. I heard this song yesterday and I still just love it so very much. And I still consider this song as a birthday present from Michael. I could not have ask for a better birthday present than this. I just wish I could hear the whole song.

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

So when are we gonna have the full song? I am so eager to hear it!!!!! :)

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

the song is off the hook! much better than This is it, in my opinion. I doubt it was made in 2001 'cause his voice is different here than on the Invincible album, I may be wrong of though.

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

Oh my God.....I don't even care from when it is....Michael sounds simply amazing.... :(

I don't understand how these songs surface. We get a random snippet every now and then and, after a few weeks, everything is forgotten.

Who's the puppet-master pulling the strings?
Dunno, everytime team MJ or his executors put up something on the table for negotiation... .be it his back catalogue of unreleased songs or [Mijac catalogue (as in the latest for negotiaiton of a re-financing package)] or some other stuff, his "new" song has a way crawling out of the woodwork leaking the pipes.
May not be as bad, most inexpensive way to test the market if you ask me.
Luving this song BTW. Told ya, Michael's ahead of his time and of the competition by a mile. Pit this against JT's Rock your body or Cry me a river, MJ's Another day wins hands down.

Re: New Song Snippet - Another Day Featuring Lenny Kravitz (Merged)

It's so frustrating because you know this is going to be it, just like the 30 second clip of A Place With No Name.... it'll probably be years before we hear the full version.
