I like this...yes its bittersweet, but we all know its something Michael would've loved to be apart of and I'm glad to see katherine giving her blessings to the project. Thats what I want to see, The Estate handlers and The Family working together.

BEVERLY HILLS, California — Since his shocking death, Michael Jackson's estate has seen an unprecedented level of earning, putting the King of Pop on a trajectory that rivals music's all-time greatest entertainers. Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil has spent the last few years staging elaborate tribute shows to the likes of Elvis and The Beatles. If any doubt remained that MJ belongs on that legendary level, the two entities are now joining forces for a series of groundbreaking shows that will entertain, embrace and establish the iconic superstar.
"We came to an agreement with Michael Jackson's estate to create and produce two shows," Cirque du Soleil President and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Lamarre revealed to MTV News. "One show is going to be an arena show at the end of 2011 and will tour for one year in North America and then tour around the world for many years to come. At the end of 2012, we'll also open a permanent show in Las Vegas."
The overall effort is referred to only as the "Michael Jackson projects" for the time being, and as anyone who has seen such Cirque shows as "Ka," "Love" or "Viva Elvis" will tell you, the company isn't lacking when it comes to production spectacle. The Estate of Michael Jackson and Cirque du Soleil will each own 50 percent of the projects, sharing equally in the cost of creating, developing, building and producing the shows; the Michael Jackson estate will also receive royalty payments for the King of Pop's music.
"The entire catalog is open to us ... we don't know [which songs we'll use] yet, but obviously all of the people will be looking for the big hits of Michael Jackson; we don't want to avoid that," Lamarre said of plans to incorporate not only classics like "Thriller," but also never-before-heard tunes. "We want to make sure that we will meet musical expectations from the fans. At the same time, [Michael Jackson estate executors] John McClain and John Branca are also that they want to make with Sony music — and that could also be a part of our new shows.
"There will be two different approaches," he explained of the distinction between the MJ/Cirque shows. "For the arena show, there will be a simulation of a concert of Michael Jackson, and we will use some technology to make sure that people feel and see the presence of Michael Jackson.
"The new technology that we want to bring to [the permanent] Vegas [show] will be more theatrical," he said, adding that although the show doesn't have a home yet, it will be in one of the MGM Mirage (Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo) hotels, which will likely be retro-fitted with Michael Jackson-themed elements within its hotel and casino. "They will see Vegas become the home of Michael Jackson and people will come from all over the world to experience the uniqueness of the technology that we want to bring there."
Some might wonder how anyone could hope to revive such a unique performer onstage — Lamarre said the answer is to simply bring back the man himself.
"I think we can use some 3-D technologies and hologram technologies to allow people to see Michael Jackson onstage," he said of Cirque's intriguing idea to put Michael alongside the living, breathing Cirque performers. "If you are an MJ fan, you want to see him, and we have to find the best, most innovative way to bring Michael onstage."
As for the plot or theme of either show, Lamarre said, "We're not there in terms of the creative process, but normally we don't like to be literal," shooting down any notion that the show would play like a biopic or narrative about MJ's life and death. "I would like to think it would be more of a theatrical tribute to Michael. We don't necessarily think of chronology or story lines or anything. It will be more of an extravaganza-type of show, like Michael used to do."

This is an excellent and fitting tribute to Michael. And they are definitely going to push the envelope just like Michael always did. This show is going to overshadow any shows by the Beatles or Elvis Pressley. Can you imagine incorporating all of Michaels amazing choreography and his iconic moves?!!! This is going to be the show of all shows!!! As far as the promotion- just look at the Cirque website and it already looks awesome!!
Michael knew exactly what he was doing when he appointed Branca and McClain as his executors- those guys are doing an outstanding job!!! I just knew they would - I know Michael is smiling from up above!! Long live the King of Pop and the king of all kings!:clapping:

Michael Jackson Reality Show Might Help Find Cirque Du Soleil Choreographer
'There is a huge appetite for people that want to participate in this Michael Jackson tribute,' Cirque CEO Daniel Lamarre says.

BEVERLY HILLS, California — By now, you may have heard that Cirque du Soleil has unveiled an ambitious plan to bring Michael Jackson back for a series of high-profile stage shows in Las Vegas and beyond. But what you might not know is that these plans will also take the King of Pop off the stage and into everything from nightclubs to restaurants to ... a reality show?
"There's not a lack of creativity around the table," grinned Cirque President and CEO Daniel Lamarre when we sat down with him on Tuesday (April 20). "Between [Michael Jackson Estate Co-Executors] John McClain and John Branca and all the creative team at Cirque Du Soleil, we're already bouncing a lot of new ideas around.
"This joint venture is not only for those two shows, but for all of the other initiatives that we can develop together," he added. "We are already working on the concept of nightclubs, restaurants and other experiences and other types of content that we can develop on the brand of Michael Jackson."
One of the leading concepts is a reality TV show that Lamarre hopes to launch by the end of this year. He describes it as a chance to combine television's two hottest shows, "American Idol" and "Dancing With the Stars," with the distinctive style of the King of Pop.
"John McClain came to us with the idea," he said of the as-yet-untitled program, which would have a national audience assisting as they built the Cirque stage shows. "We would pick the best choreographer that there is in the world to work on [our stage] show, but also use them in a reality show in order to find a new, cutting-edge choreographer that could join the team."
The reality show would also audition dancers for the MJ shows, with a certain number of the top contestants landing a Cirque gig. "That could be an exciting moment," Lamarre said of the show. "Right now there is a huge appetite for people that want to participate in this Michael Jackson tribute."
The Michael Jackson estate and Cirque du Soleil are spearheading the Michael Jackson projects with MGM Mirage, the gaming company that own such Vegas hotels as Excalibur, Luxor, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo and more. Lamarre said that one of the MGM Mirage hotels will host the Las Vegas Michael Jackson/Cirque show, and the venture's press release mentions that "special lifestyle projects including a nightclub" will be developed.
"We are exploring all of those opportunities right now," Lamarre offered. "We're at the early stages of those ideas. But we want to make sure that all the fans around the world that want to celebrate Michael Jackson have an opportunity to do it through the experiences we will bring to them."
But if those Michael Jackson-themed restaurants become a reality, Lamarre did make us one key promise: They won't include moonwalking waiters attempting to balance food trays.

Michael Jackson fans across the globe were given a reason to start saving their allowance Tuesday morning when the estate of the late singer, in the person of co-executor John McLain, and Cirque du Soleil, represented by Daniel Lamarre, announced a partnership to develop a number of projects based on The King of Pop’s iconic catalog.
McLain and Lamarre told Pollstar their first priorities are a pair of completely different shows. The first will be an arena show that will tour the country beginning in the fall of 2011 and the second a permanent Las Vegas production that will open sometime in 2012.
Besides the requisite CDs, DVDs and branded merchandise that will accompany both shows, other plans on the drawing board include a restaurant and nightclub in Vegas and a project sure to excite aspiring moonwalkers out there – a competition TV show to discover fresh talent to help create both Jackson productions.
“The other thing we’re talking about is a television show to find the next great choreographer and dancers for the show,” McClain explained. “We feel we’re going to end up using three choreographers – two established ones and then use the TV show to find the next great genius choreographer out there on the streets doing dance the way that no one else is doing it. Then we’ll bring them onto the team along with the best dancers in the world that we find.
“In terms of established choreographers, we’re going to look and bring in the best out there – maybe someone who’s worked with Michael or maybe somebody new. We love Kenny Ortega. He did a wonderful job helping to create the ‘This Is It’ show and the movie, but I believe that Kenny’s now committed to direct some movies. So unfortunately, we may have to look in another direction.”
As for what form the Vegas restaurant/nightclub might take, don’t expect a King of Pop version of Planet Hollywood or the Rainforest Café. Cirque’s Lamarre promised fans are in for a completely unique experience.
“We at Cirque always try to reinvent stuff,” Lamarre said. “Our creative people don’t like to repeat things that have been done in the past. The good news here is that the people from Michael Jackson’s estate think the same way. We have to push the envelope.
“We’re at the preliminary stages right now, so it’s hard to define what the form and shape of those projects will be. But again, we have to push the boundaries of creativity and the boundaries of technology because in today’s world people are used to experiencing something special. That’s the challenge we have right now.”
So what can fans expect when they plunk down their pennies for a ticket to the first joint Cirque du Soliel/Michael Jackson production? According to Lamarre, they’d better hang on to their glittery socks.
“The arena show, I don’t know yet where it will start in Vegas, but it will be in one of the arenas at the MGM Mirage,” the Cirque Chief said. “The show will tour in North America for a year. It will be kind of a simulation of a Michael Jackson touring show.
“The other show in Las Vegas will be more of an experience. We want the theatre to be state-of-the-art technology-wise and we want to use new technologies such as holograms and 3D. Those are avenues that our R&D department is exploring right now in partnership with other organizations. We’re talking to three or four of them right now that are interested in stepping up to the table to work with us. Because we want this to be a breakthrough in terms of technology.”
As for what form The King of Pop’s music might take for both of these shows and who might be called upon to guide it, that’s going to be a totally new experience too. The singer’s catalog will most likely be transformed as radically as the music of The Beatles was for “Love,” according to McClain and Lamarre – but in a different way.
“We’re certainly going to use Michael’s recordings,” he explained. “We may do mash-ups of them and present them in a way that hasn’t been heard before. We’ll certainly do that for the permanent show. Whether we supplement that with a live band or not is something we still have to decide.”
“First in terms of the show, it has to be very, very different from ‘Love’ or any other Cirque show,” Lamarre continued. “Here, technologically, there is a huge challenge, but in terms of the artistic content, the material of Michael Jackson is so different and so huge it’s giving us an amazing springboard of creativity. In terms of the music itself – I’ll let John comment – but it’s very clear to all of us that John McClain himself will play a major role in supervising all the musical aspects of Michael Jackson.”
“Absolutely,” McClain concurred. “We don’t know if it will be Quincy [Jones]. Quincy had a major impact on Michael’s life, but he’s enjoying life. So whether it’s Quincy or Bruce Swedien or Giles Martin or somebody brand new, we haven’t decided on that yet.”
So what about some of the famous musicians who’ve also worked with Michael over the years, like Eddie Van Halen, Steve Stevens or even the latest – Orianthi? Will any of them be involved in either show?
“Very possibly,” McClain said. “Greg Phillinganes … there are a number of people.”
Besides Jackson’s solo work, which includes record-breaking releases like Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad, will the public be hearing a much younger Michael, say with the Jackson 5? More than likely McClain explained, adding “That was an important part of Michael’s life.”
And all of those yet-unheard masterpieces by The King of Pop that have been lying around on studio shelves? Will any of that figure in the new projects? Again, McClain thinks it’s conceivable.
“It’s possible. The first album of unreleased material is going to be released in November. We’ll make a determination, but very possibly some of that material could be used.”
Here’s some good news for Michael Jackson fans around the world: No need to despair or begin selling your possessions so you can get over here to see the new show – it’ll be in your neck of the woods sooner than you think.
“It will be touring for many years around the world, I think,” Lamarre said. “Because the demand is huge outside of North America. That’s one of the main reasons we’re doing a touring show.”
And finally, could a permanent Cirque du Soliel/Michael Jackson show pop up in someplace like – oh, let’s say China?
“There is nothing confirmed as we speak, nothing in discussion,” Lamarre said. “But it might happen.”

Michael Jackson fans across the globe were given a reason to start saving their allowance Tuesday morning when the estate of the late singer, in the person of co-executor John McLain, and Cirque du Soleil, represented by Daniel Lamarre, announced a partnership to develop a number of projects based on The King of Pop’s iconic catalog.
McLain and Lamarre told Pollstar their first priorities are a pair of completely different shows. The first will be an arena show that will tour the country beginning in the fall of 2011 and the second a permanent Las Vegas production that will open sometime in 2012.
Besides the requisite CDs, DVDs and branded merchandise that will accompany both shows, other plans on the drawing board include a restaurant and nightclub in Vegas and a project sure to excite aspiring moonwalkers out there – a competition TV show to discover fresh talent to help create both Jackson productions.
“The other thing we’re talking about is a television show to find the next great choreographer and dancers for the show,” McClain explained. “We feel we’re going to end up using three choreographers – two established ones and then use the TV show to find the next great genius choreographer out there on the streets doing dance the way that no one else is doing it. Then we’ll bring them onto the team along with the best dancers in the world that we find.
“In terms of established choreographers, we’re going to look and bring in the best out there – maybe someone who’s worked with Michael or maybe somebody new. We love Kenny Ortega. He did a wonderful job helping to create the ‘This Is It’ show and the movie, but I believe that Kenny’s now committed to direct some movies. So unfortunately, we may have to look in another direction.”
As for what form the Vegas restaurant/nightclub might take, don’t expect a King of Pop version of Planet Hollywood or the Rainforest Café. Cirque’s Lamarre promised fans are in for a completely unique experience.
“We at Cirque always try to reinvent stuff,” Lamarre said. “Our creative people don’t like to repeat things that have been done in the past. The good news here is that the people from Michael Jackson’s estate think the same way. We have to push the envelope.
“We’re at the preliminary stages right now, so it’s hard to define what the form and shape of those projects will be. But again, we have to push the boundaries of creativity and the boundaries of technology because in today’s world people are used to experiencing something special. That’s the challenge we have right now.”
So what can fans expect when they plunk down their pennies for a ticket to the first joint Cirque du Soliel/Michael Jackson production? According to Lamarre, they’d better hang on to their glittery socks.

'There is a huge appetite for people that want to participate in this Michael Jackson tribute,' Cirque CEO Daniel Lamarre says.
BEVERLY HILLS, California — By now, you may have heard that Cirque du Soleil has unveiled an ambitious plan to bring Michael Jackson back for a series of high-profile stage shows in Las Vegas and beyond. But what you might not know is that these plans will also take the King of Pop off the stage and into everything from nightclubs to restaurants to ... a reality show?
"There's not a lack of creativity around the table," grinned Cirque President and CEO Daniel Lamarre when we sat down with him on Tuesday (April 20). "Between [Michael Jackson estate co-executors] John McClain and John Branca and all the creative team at Cirque du Soleil, we're already bouncing a lot of new ideas around.
"This joint venture is not only for those two shows, but for all of the other initiatives that we can develop together," he added. "We are already working on the concept of nightclubs, restaurants and other experiences and other types of content that we can develop on the brand of Michael Jackson."

Lamarre said that one of the MGM Mirage hotels will host the Las Vegas Michael Jackson/ Cirque show, and the venture's press release mentions that "special lifestyle projects including a nightclub" will be developed.
"We are exploring all of those opportunities right now," Lamarre offered. "We're at the early stages of those ideas. But we want to make sure that all the fans around the world that want to celebrate Michael Jackson have an opportunity to do it through the experiences we will bring to them."
But if those Michael Jackson-themed restaurants become a reality, Lamarre did make us one key promise: They won't include moonwalking waiters attempting to balance food trays.
"I don't think anybody can do it the way Michael Jackson was doing it," he laughed.

A just-announced collaboration between Michael Jackson’s estate and Cirque du Soleil also includes plans for a reality TV show along the lines of “American Idol” and “Dancing With the Stars” to discover a young choreographer to help develop an arena tour and permanent show in Las Vegas built on Jackson’s music, dancing and life story.
The TV show, in the discussion stage but targeted to be on the air sometime early in 2011, would audition young dance enthusiasts from across the globe in search of “someone young, who is cutting edge, from the outside, someone in the streets, who can bring that style that no one’s ever seen before, like Michael always did,” John Branca, co-executor of Jackson’s estate, said Tuesday.
The parties believe the combination of Jackson’s name, Cirque’s reputation and a talent discovery show similar to two of the most popular shows on television right now will make it a hit.
The show’s winner would join two other professional choreographers to be selected by the team assembling the concert-style arena tour slated to get under way in the fall of 2011, and a Jackson-themed permanent show in Las Vegas.

The deal with Cirque is just the latest in an aggressive series of grand-scale projects Jackson’s estate has undertaken in recent months, in addition to the concert film and DVD “This Is It” from the tour that was aborted when he died last June and a new long-term contract with Sony Music covering reissues as well as new compilations of previously unissued recordings and, potentially, video games.
