Lady gaga gaining on Michael on FB

After the CD release it will go up. Most people already liked LG when her last album released, so I won't have any huge increases any time soon.

Gaga's got so many followers it's scary. Too sad how many follow godless people. Not starting anything, just making an alarming observation...

I understand your feelings, but Lady Gaga is in her "heyday". If there had been a FB when MJ started including his Jackson 5 days through the present, he'd have a hundred million if not 200 million followers by this time. All things being relative, his ranking is actually mindblowing to me.

Sad to reminisce about the truly valuable music of the past, including the 90's. Comparing it with today's music (esp. the commercial one) is depressing... The human voice no longer can be heard, it's simply robotized and disensitized.

I agree.

You have to take into account the demographic of Facebook. Most of Lady Gaga's fanbase is in that demographic and she's current. Michael has fans all over and has been around for decades. To be honest I am rather suprised at Michael's ranking.

I don't even understand what's so great about Gaga. Her music is average IMO (lots of copying of 90s dance music IMO) and her image is about copying an earlier Madonna.

Not just that, but she is also blasphemeous, esp in "Alejandro". That is simply unacceptable, and many still justify such expressions of 'art', saying they're just shock value. And I say one can create that without involving God into it and the church into it. And, shoving a specific sexual orientation, no matter which, down people's throats like that, with ostentatious visuals and erratic displays is sick.

My last take on this, as I don't wanna turn this into a hate-thread...

Not all MJ fans have facebook, I know. I couldn't give a damn about Facebook.

Who will remember Gaga in 30 years? She's trendy now, but making average music and she gets noticed b/c she dressed differently.

Lots of ppl dont have FB. And Gaga's fans are young. FB likes dont mean ish to me

If every single MJ fan on the planet joined FB and was a fan/follower on his page, every other celeb would just give up. MJ fans range from babies to 90yr olds.

True. I am not on facebook or twitter, and I love MJ. Sorry I cannot contribute to making the numbers higher. I like gaga's voice though, it is her videos that make me feel sick. Something is not right there, to me.

I agree with most here... What gets me is that, i dont have anything against her but, She was named the most influential artist in 2009? I guess the meaning of influential has changed since I've checked my dictionary! SMH!

Very sad how Michael was treated when he was soooo respectful, kind, loving, just an angel to the world. People wanted Michael to be Different than who he was cuz they didnt know how to handle a person like him. But now When Gaga comes, "she's the best, is influential"...etc. I mean I like her voice and creativity but to go as far as that is too much. And of course there might be fans on here but this is what i feel like...

I understand you earth. They wanted Michael to act the way they wanted him to and he refused. That is one of the things that draws me to him more than his music. He kept true to himself as long as he was not hurting others. Society wants people to conform, and if they do not, they are tortured. Those who are different are only respected if many stand to gain something from it, which is sad. So, Gaga who is praised because what she depicts in her videos are what the industry, media, publishers are pushing down people's throat and want to sell. All these images are on tv, in movies, etc--so it is acceptable. Don't worry it will never last. Long Live the King.

AMEN!

My baby was one in 6 billion!

Exactly. This is why he is a true phenom. Artists generally appeal to certain segments and especially today. MJ had across the board appeal in every format, be it country, r&b, pop, rap, and in every demographic agewise, gender-wise, race-wise, culture wise, continent wise...you name it. He had it. He is truly ONE of a kind. And it was all a result of his god given ENORMOUS talents and unrelenting hard work, not gimmicks.

Do you remember the tributes for him last year?Dancers all over the world made tributes for him and they didn´t do it for money. He is the king for dancers.
This is from Stockholm in april

It could be from Japan, USA, England,Chile,Canada,Russia ,whatever
Michael is the king of music, song and dance, facebook doesn´t change that.

true...

I have been looking at the numbers for a while, and noticed that the Gaga-thingy was gaining more per day than Michael.. If she gets more than MJ one day, it only shows that people are fools really... she is nowhere near Michael's level.. If she had been famous in the 90'ties, I guess her songs would have ranked just about average.. or lower.. really.. when I first started getting into MTV around 1992/1993.. there were so many quality songs.. her's would not have gotten anywhere near people like Whitney Houston, Boys II Men etc...

Still.. I hope Michael stays at number one..

Follow the exact numbers here: http://pagedata.insidefacebook.com/

Yall care to much about what other people think instead of sticking to what the reality of something is. And the reality is Michael is the KOP legend for life and has nothing to prove. If yall need validation from OTHER foolish people to show you how legendary Michael is than by all means continue to post these crappy threads on how Gaga and Bieber are close in numbers to Michael... WHO F**KIN CARES it doesnt mean ish.

^^^No need to get hostile. Michael liked being #1. And as fans, we liked that for him as well. We don't need him validated. We know he's the greatest entertainer to ever set foot on the planet. Our enjoying him hitting certain milestones doesn't take away from what we know and appreciate about him.

Wanting him to be number one is looking for validation because if you wasnt it wouldnt matter if he was number one or not, its the same thing.

Michael liked putting his best efforts forward and being successful but I highly doubt as something as meaningless as youtube would be the first thing on his mind as far as being number one. Especially when the criteria which mostly consists of "views" on videos where random people or companies upload is rather a insignificant way of deciding who is number one.

Record sales are a form of validation, Guinness Records are a form of valdiation, as are other measures. Michael did like being number one. He wanted Thriller to be the biggest selling album, which means being Number one.

I agree with you about youtube and even facebook having little credibilty, but I also believe as meaningless as they may be, he'd get a small measure of satisfaction from high rankings.

I remember his face at his announcement of the TII tour, he was overwhelmed by the reception. It meant something for him to see that excitement and love from fans again. He's a human being and to have 20 million facebook followers, when his contemporaries like Prince and Madonna, only have a fraction of that number, I do believe would have given him a feel good moment. That's all it gives to some of his fans too. A feel good moment for him. And yeah, with him gone, we embrace the moment. It's nothing more or less than that.

Mjscarousal and Gerryevans you two make some very good points although they differ. Thank you.

Well, i started this thread cuz I thought it would be a good thing if y'all knew what was going on. Personally, I dont care what ppl. think and Michael was, is and will always be #1 in my heart. But if some on here doesn't care, good for you its your choice but there's no need to call it meaningless or be rude about it cuz there are ppl. who care about it. But I also thank y'all for taking the time to read and reply. :)
