Note: I realize the source is Roger Friedman. I opted to post it here because it has information about both MJ perfumes and UD Group and Joe Jackson's projects.

-----------------

There will be a Michael Jackson line of perfumes, but it won’t be coming from Michael’s father, Joseph. I can tell you exclusively that the Michael Jackson estate is in negotiations right now to market its own brands through a conventional big time cosmetics company. The perfume has been created, the bottles are being deisgned, and a name is being decided upon. It will not be called “Thriller,” says a source who’s working on the project.

But it’s not a bad idea. Neither are “Bad,” “Dangerous,” “Invincible” or “Off the Wall” (the latter could be body spray!). What’s NOT happening: a line of perfumes from Michael’s father, Joe Jackson.

Indeed, the estate is spending extra time shutting Jackson senior down as he makes pronouncements about new businesses he’s dreaming up to exploit his late son’s likeness. Recently, Jackson proclaimed on his website that he and a German firm–UD Group International–a firm with ties to Michael’s one time manager Dieter Wiesner–had somehow gotten the rights in that country to Michael’s name. However, the Jackson estate insists this isn’t true, and that they are contacting their German lawyers to set matters straight.

On the website, Joe Jackson can be seen hocking his own line of “champagne,” and carrying on about his new ventures. He tried to launch his own perfume line during the Cannes Film Festival, but that’s been scotched. He also told this reporter about his plans for Neverland style hotels. “That will not be happening,” said an estate source. “We think Joe knows all these things are pipe dreams. He just likes to do the traveling and get the attention,” said my source.

Meanwhile, the Estate is looking forward to opening night in Montreal on October 2nd, when Cirque du Soleil unveils its Michael Jackson show. Tickets are on sale in several cities. After Montreal, the show heads to Las Vegas. What’s happening here is really interesting: in death, Michael Jackson is now becoming a big, big business, bigger than he could have envisioned.

Glad Joe will be stopped!

But, A Mj perfume from the estate now? o_O

I don't know... see prefume from anyone with their name on it should always be approved by that person. How the hell they gonna know if MJ liked the smells? They can't! :mello: So kinda weird!

I will past on this one! Doesn't make any sense. Sorry!

Papa Joe... :sigh:

Thanks for the article.
I wonder if other estates have had similar troubles with the families of the deceased.

Using Michael "MJ" logo

Mr. Jackson was very impressed with the extremely high quality and attention to detail that the UD Group employed in producing unique and elegant designs of the various products.

UD Group International confirmed production was already underway and would be hitting stores near you later this same year.

An article from earlier this year:

Joe Jackson today signed a marketing agreement with Manuela Koschker and Don Stardy of UD Group International for the Global Production of
Joe Jackson: Champagne, Ice Cream, Jellys, Lollys, Cosmetique, Jewelry and Fashion (Children and Adult Clothing)

Mr. Jackson was very impressed with the extremely high quality and attention to detail that the UD Group employed in producing unique and elegant designs of the various products.

 Guess The Estate won. Good.

I wouldn't buy a fragrance by someone who's name it carried but wasn't created by them esp. someone so high profile as Michael it just don't seem right.

re the HIStory logo, i thought a German judge had already ruled in favor of UD

The article says rights to mj name. Not the logo.

Personally im not intrested in any perfumes.i find it kinda tacky.u just buy tom ford etc that mj wore

The MJ Estate does not own the MJ logo because MJ lost the rights to that years ago, so Joe is free to use it with the permission of the rights holder. I didn't understand at the time why MJ would allow the MJ logo to be lost but he was not in control of his business affairs in the last few years of his life which is a shame.
As long as Joe doesn't try to use MJ's likeness, his music, or his name then he is free to do whatever he likes. It's the same with the 'Jackson' font on the champagne. We associate that font with Michael Jackson as it was used on the HIStory era merchandise but legally anybody can used it, and Joe can argue that he does not mention Michael Jackson so there's nothing the Estate can do, unless the association with the 'MJ' logo is so strong that the Estate can prove the buyers are being mislead into thinking it's a Michael Jackson product.
If the merchandise is good then I don't have any problem with it being released because good products can enhance the MJ legacy even if the Estate doesn't directly profit from it. However, I'm not very optimistic about the products being of good quality. It appears to me that it's most likely to be cheap quality sold at premium prices to enable maximum profit. That will do nothing for MJ's legacy and I won't be part of it. However, if it's good then I will buy it. JJ will need a lot of luck to get the products off the ground without mentioning Michael Jackson and without using his music. I think these products will be ignored, at least in the UK.

The logo was connected to weisner.it was lost years and years ago not recently

lmao

Just glad Joe is being stopped. I perfer the estate releasing a perfume then Joe. Michael loved perfume and you can even see him on several youtube videos spraying some on. I think he was working on a line a long time ago am I right?

well, I thought the estate actually don't own the logo, it's lost years ago. Thanks Wiesner.
and I guess Joe is smart enough to not use MJ's name but just use the last name lol.
However, I do hope the estate can find a way to stop Joe's merchandise.
As for the perfume, not so interested. I want more DVD and behind the scene video with MJ in it!!!!

So Joe's not allowed to do one but the Estate are? Both will be dreadful, as you can expect but it is so wrong.

Yes the estate are cause mj gave them the right to use his name etc.he didnt give joe the right

the bolded part...my thoughts exactly...MJ is not here to approve this...so why bother...I wont buy something that MJ himself did not approve. When making a perfume sent..that is the personal choice of the person putting their name on the product...they dont know what he would of chosen. Even if they try to involve the children to pick it out....still..it wont be Michael's choice.

Technically yes. But, either way who ever it is it will be distasteful. He didn't allow them to do anything, they just own the rights.

Well thats what estates are for.to make such decisions on others behalf.mj gave branca and mclain the power to do as they see fit.

But there has been an official MJ parfume in the 90's -it was called Legend I believe. And I would suppose that Michael had to agree with it. So if the Estate just reissued that parfume we would indeed get a true Michael Jackson parfume!

So Joe's not allowed to do one but the Estate are? Both will be dreadful, as you can expect but it is so wrong.

I think this is a great business idea by the Estate because it is very lucrative! Celebrity perfumes are very popular (just shows yet again how clever Branca is) and everyone seems to launch their own fragrance.
Michael is not here to give his okay to this, but he wasn't here to give his okay to any deals the Estate has done so far (see TII, Cirque du Soleil etc.), but it doesn't mean it's bad.
Besides, just because celebrities associate their name with a perfume doesn't mean they actually wear it. For example, I still have the MJ perfumes from the 90s, the bottles are still full and they don't smell like the perfumes we know MJ liked (e.g.Black Orchid). I don't know how involved MJ was in creating them but to be honest, I didn't like them (sorry Mike ;D ), I simply bought it because it had MJ's name on it. And this is exactly what millions of other people around the world do today as well.

OMG if this is real *skips around the room happily*

Now that is something Michael, and we, his fans deserve. Not some tacky ass crap degrading to his legacy. I hope this is the end for Joe's line of perfume, and other cheap tacky stuff.

I don't want MJ perfume.

I just want REAL PURE MJ SONGS, concerts in blu-ray with bonus.

^You mean the one the Estate may put out? Why do you think so?

I hear you. That's why I hope the fragrance they created is somewhat based on the one rumored back in the 90's. What's the point of a Michael Jackson perfume if Michael had absolutely no say in the creative process?

Anyway, I'm never interested in celebrity fragrance. Fragrance is a very persoanl thing. What smells good on Britney Spears or Elizabeth Taylor may not smell good on me. Wearing White Diamond does not turn one into Elizabeth Taylor. The Tom Ford on me may smell very different than the Tom Ford on Michael. Body chemistry does the trick.

I know celebrity frangrances have huge market shares though. Everyone from Paris Hilton to Justin Bieber has her/his own fragrance.
