Michael Jackson artwork to be donated to L.A. Children's Hospital - by Katherine and MJ's kids

Yeah, but if the hospital actually sells the drawings, then they get the money, right? So what's the benefit for BLS? Or KJ?
Unless like it's been said before, it's a way to tie the hands of the Estate, b/c they would look bad if they protested against the gift, and if they dont, then implicitly, it could be understood that they agree the drawings are BLS's. Am I making any sense?

Well, if the hospital sells one (or two or three) paintings, they are likely to go for very high sums indeed, partly because they have rarity value ( only a limited number in the market) and partly because items sold in aid of charity can sell for many times their 'true' (non charity) auction value. This means that the value of the remainder of the collection is likely to be based on the high values of the 2 or three sold...so the entire collection has an 'evidence' base for valuing it highly. So if whoever owns the remainder of the collection wants to sell, they may be able to ask a much higher price for them, either individually or as a collection. Alternatively, if the owner happens to be someone who wants to raise money against them, for some pet project, then they will be able to raise more money against the value of their remaining collection.

Also, the value of the items gifted and sold may be offset against the 'gifter's ' tax bill , and if they fetch a high price, then you can ask for a higher tax reduction ( the value of your charitable gift being high).

It's all potentially quite clever.

You have written nothing to this photo, Molly....
I make it also, because:
This picture tells itself.

"Michael Jackson's mother and three children will present 13 pieces of art created by the late pop legend to Children's Hospital Los Angeles on Monday afternoon."

So when the presenting is done by the heirs, they should have the ownership. I don't see any problem here. It seems it was already settled that MJ's kids and Katherine have that right to donate these artworks.

Thank you. Indeed, quite clever.

I don't know what it is, but seeing his children always seems to get me.
I'm crying here because like others have said it is once again a reminder of who is missing in these pictures... so unfair. :(

I see there is a lot of backstory to these paintings but I do believe the kids are doing this for what they feel is the right reason.
As for the others involved, I can't say too much yet. I'm curious how this all will work out though.

I'm glad they're donating to a children's hospital in spite of what hidden motives there might be. Wow, every time I see pics of these kids they seem to be getting older, especially Paris. She's grown to become a mature young lady. I just wish Michael could see them grow up. Blanket's words make me want to cry. He always looks so sad.

This is exactly how I feel.

I'm thinking about the paintings and Estate's position on them. I looked to Mj Estate and Mann lawsuit as 5 of the paintings are mentioned there. This was what was said.

Jackson is the “author” of the Drawings, with the Estate owning the copyrights

In other words I wonder if they aren't challenging the physical property ownership but only intellectual property.

If so, I guess that means that whoever subsequently buys the paintings also would have no copyright 'rights' ie the hoospital or anyone that the hospital may subsequently sell to...unless -I suppose-the purchaser of the drawing also arranges to buy the copyright from the estate. It all sounds very complicated!

Yes that makes sense Ben, I just hope that is not what is behind this gesture, only time will tell.

@ Hello ivy;

This applies ONLY the 5 exhibits, which are in the Lawsuit Estate./. Howard Mann performed. (?)

For EVERYTHING what is/was bunkered by Livingstone-Strong must be settled the owner on the way of a complaint.

my opinion....

The only comment I'm gonna make in this thread is: I love Paris' digs...Girl's got great taste :D

I think I'm in love with Paris....

Jesus she looks sooo stunning and sweet.

Those 3 children will do so much good for the world I think. God bless them.

Interesting. So it's not a donation from the kids anymore then? But how can you give something you've not proven to be yours?

Brainwashing... that's always been my concern... Well, we can only pray for these children. :(

God.... AGAIN.... I'm crying. Wonderful children. Michael would be so proud. Well,he's looking for them ....

The pictures and their lovely words. I am having trouble dealing with this. It's like losing him all over again:cry:

Good kids. Mike would be proud.
