Michael - The Great Album Debate

Has anyone already discovered where Michael wants to drown in again? In 'Burn Tonight'?

To me it seems the writer wants to use an expression or hints at an expression, like 'Drown in eachother's eyes', or 'drown in passion' or something, but it could also be in the fountain that he mentioned earlier in the song.

This is what I mean.

^^ I don't know the full lyrics of Burn Tonight as I don't listen to it...

I see what you're saying...they're hinting at an expression but just not getting it quite right...lol...It's poor songwriting...

Anyway, Michael doesn't sing Burn Tonight and I have no problem saying that's a fact :D

Ironically, I listen to Burn Tonight rather frequently in order to try and familiarize myself with the voice... Maybe it's mental conditioning, but it sounds "faker" than the 3 released songs and the 2 leaked ballads.

The flaws I was referring to was you equalling "break of day" to "break of dawn" and on another level making it comparable to "he gave all he's got".

Equalling "break of day" to "break of dawn" - linguistics is not an exact science like math (which is one of the reasons why I gave you this link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_orthography_reform_of_1996 - language teachers and authors were among the first to protest). So things sometimes are open to interpretation. I also didn't really equal it, I explained that "dawn" and "day" are 2 different things, so of course they can both "break".

I never compared it to any grammar mistakes, you brought that in, that's one of the things where you put words in my mouth, as I said in an earlier post. I was talking about expressions like "seeing through/with the heart". And about the general notion that art needs rules (not made by the artists).

Furthermore, when I asked you to give me what kind of mistakes Michael did in his songs, you posted a sentence from the lyrics which does not break actually any literature rule as it was written in common slang language. Again, it is uncomparable to the tense mistake I pointed out.

I did not compare that to anything, another thing you put in my mouth. My point with that was that the notion "there are no grammar mistakes allowed in art" is wrong.

So, all I did was saying that there are some flaws in that post. I did not however say that you were an idiot because of that.

Like I said, you put words in my mouth and then called that "flaws". I never called you an idiot, and I never would. I said you are condescending.

If you don't accept to be corrected then fine, I won't do it. Just know that correcting people doesn't mean being condescending with them.

If you put things in my mouth and then correct them, when I never said that, that's also condescending. And also a sign that you don't really want to hear my opinion and why I have this opinion (which I also explained), but that you want to "win" the discussion. You also said things that were directly condescending, but whatever, I don't care, I won't go look for them.

I never told you to go back to school. You told me that and afterwards you said you were joking. Whatever.

Yes, it was a joke. I told you we don't speak the same language, you don't get my sense of humor. And maybe you also take yourself a bit too seriously, you are acting like you know everything sometimes and nobody is allowed to question anything you say ...

Are the lyrics posted somewhere on the board or on the net? I just know that there is one thread about them, but people were saying that they are fake.

Have you heard the song yet? That thread had fake lyrics...I don't know where the real ones are...

Nope, and I doubt I will ... but the correct lyrics must be posted somewhere on the net?

I can't remember for sure, but I think the original site that uploaded the song had the lyrics on there.

Yes I heard the song. Lyrics are on the net. There are a lot of 'fake' lyrics, but I believe these are pretty correct. Not a 100% sure though. Teddy Riley confirmed on Twitter he wasn't pleased the song leaked. Quote after he was asked what he felt about that: "Not happy but it is what it is".

BURN TONIGHT

Quema esta noche
Uh
Mi amor
Haaa-uh heey heey

Read you from a mile away
Lips that make it easy to adore
A taste of me
Let the fountain pour

Girl I'm in a state of sin
Ooh I wanna taste your skin
Ooh I wanna
Girl I kinda wonder
If we can drown again

If you can touch me again
See we will dance
Like fire to my skin, we burn again

Girl I wanna testify
Ooh come on and let me light the fire (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
We can make it burn tonight
Baby come on and let me light ya fire (Haaa-aah-aaay)
Ain't no need to justify (Haa-aah-aah)
Ooh come on and let me light the fire
We can make it burn tonight (Fi-i-ire)
Rain and thunder when you burn tonight

I can't believe I'm saying it, heaven now
Feel the fire
We're burning like hell again tonight
My sole desire

A-can't nobody stop the thing we got
It makes you wonder
A friend of mine
Sexy wine
Baby why play me like a toy?

When you say
Take me again
The way that we dance
We passionately stop to burn again

Girl I wanna testify (Ooh ooh)
Ooh come on and let me light the fire (Yeah, girl)
We can make it burn tonight (We make it burn)
Baby come on and let me light ya fire (We make it burn)
Ain't no need to justify (Hee-hee)
Ooh come on and let me light the fire (Eeh-hee-hee)
We can make it burn tonight
Rain and thunder when you burn tonight (We, we make it)

Uh, ah, ow, ah

(Uhh)

Girl I wanna testify (Oh yeah)
Ooh come on and let me light the fire (Gonna’ makin’ me)
We can make it burn tonight (You’ making me burn)
Baby come on and let me light ya fire (We can make it burn)
Ain't no need to justify (Burn, burn, burn)
Ooh come on and let me light the fire (Burn, burn, burn)
We can make it burn tonight
Rain and thunder when you burn tonight (Just let it burn)

Girl I wanna testify (Just,uh)
Ooh come on and let me light the fire (Just let it burn)
We can make it burn tonight (Hee-hee)
Baby come on and let me light ya fire (Fi-i-i-re)
Ain't no need to justify (We make it burn)
Ooh come on and let me light the fire (We can making it burn)
We can make it burn tonight (Ow)
Rain and thunder when you burn tonight (Uh ah)

That's where I got these from too, lol. Used them in a post, so was easy for me to find. They are also on the net and almost correct, but it takes some searching to find them.

Thanks, Chamife. And yes, Arklove, yours were at least different. ;) By googling it all kinds of different ways I also stumbled across them on MaxJax right now not knowing if they were the correct ones, but Chamife confirmed it for me.

So this is were the "sexy wine" is coming from, lol. I really hope the song is not fake just for the "sexy wine" alone! I don't think they are that bad actually. And of course I wouldn't know not knowing the song ... but maybe there are a few misheard lyrics in there too? I remember last year during the Breaking New discussion some people said things like "he would never write this or that", but they had actually misheard it. And the misheard stuff sounded quite weird, but yeah, they were wrong.

^^ Trust me, the song is as fake as the lyrics I posted ... It's absolutely not Michael's voice..

But you say the same about the other songs, so ... and I don't know what to think about them either. But it's things like the snort in Breaking News that make me lean towards they are not fake.

^^ The snort is exactly like in Malachi's music though...It's been found in several of his songs...And we've never heard Michael snort like that before lol...There's no way that's a coincidence...

You'd have to hear the song...No point debating Burn Tonight if you haven't heard it...To me, there's no debate...

Well, I'm sure it happened to him as well occasionally, but of course they fixed that. And can you give me examples for those Malachi songs? Or links?

I'm just guessing that you have the same issue with it like with the other songs. So the vocals probably pretty much sound the same as on the other Cascio tracks.

The best way to hear them are through the comparisons to the actual Cascio tracks that TPIMaster has made...He's been banned from here and the comparison links are always removed...I'm not sure who has them or where to find them now...

Just a link to (or a name of) a Malachi song and where in the song I have to pay attention is good enough. If it's there and sligthy louder than what only dogs can hear, I'll probably hear it. ;)

^^ I don't know the names of the songs...Check your PM ;)

EDIT: Kapital, I see you lurking, do you know?

Chamife, the second link sounds great actually.

Can't tell you what I think about it, I'm still in the "I don't have an opinion anymore" mode.

Equalling "break of day" to "break of dawn" - linguistics is not an exact science like math (which is one of the reasons why I gave you this link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_orthography_reform_of_1996 - language teachers and authors were among the first to protest).

I am aware of the German reform. It has nothing to with anything we are speaking about inhere. I could give you tons of similar examples of language reforms every single year, but it is simply irrelevant to the subject.

I never claimed linguistics was an exact science, but it does study languages and their constant evolution. Linguistics isn't something that prevents the language from its own evolving course. Do you think that linguists are not aware of that? They are the first ones who notice it, codify it and include the evolution in the dictionaries on a yearly basis.

I am not even going to get back to that "break of dawn" thing, believe what you want. But the expression is what it is "break of day" = "dawn". "Break of dawn" is nothing else but slang for "break of day" and not a definition that you gave, because it wouldn't have any sense in the song.

So things sometimes are open to interpretation. I also didn't really equal it, I explained that "dawn" and "day" are 2 different things, so of course they can both "break".

Interpret it all the way you want. Nobody forces you to believe anything else. All I can offer you is a linguistical observation and explanation (not my explanation). If it doesn't fit you, fine, create your own rules (or non-rules) of interpretation based on your own imagination.

I did not compare that to anything, another thing you put in my mouth. My point with that was that the notion "there are no grammar mistakes allowed in art" is wrong.

I asked you though to point out mistakes in MJ's songs. You came up with that example.

Funny thing how you are accusing me of putting the words in your mouth (which I wasn't, I was simply replying to your posts), and you are doing here the very thing you are accusing me of. On top of that you are putting the quotes as if I said that. Read my posts again and you'll see that I clearly dissociated mistakes from common codified registers and standard grammar.

But fine, make any grammatical mistake you want and be in awe.

Like I said, you put words in my mouth and then called that "flaws". I never called you an idiot, and I never would. I said you are condescending.

Look, I clearly stated what were the flaws based on the discussion we were having and on my area of expertise. If you don't accept them as such, fine, don't. If one day a plumber tells you you have a leak in the pipe, don't believe him, he's gonna probably be condescending.

I never said you called me an idiot. What are you talking about now? Did you actually read what I said?

If you put things in my mouth and then correct them, when I never said that, that's also condescending. I did not put anything in your mouth. Your posts mix up grammar, language registers, poetry, artistic freedom, German reform and what not without any clear distinction. But if you think I am condescending, because I am telling you not to mix up everything, then fine, I won't reply to your posts.

Yes, it was a joke. I told you we don't speak the same language, you don't get my sense of humor. And maybe you also take yourself a bit too seriously, you are acting like you know everything sometimes and nobody is allowed to question anything you say ...

You are right, I am a serious humorless condescending know-everything wannabe and (why not, why being ashamed of being straightforward) an asshole.
