On page 227 Ingelief and missred07 mention Frank speaks highly of Schaffel. I was reacting to that. Like I said I haven't read the book myself. But if he indeed speaks highly of someone like Schaffel that's disappointing.

I should clarify something. I wrote Frank speaks highly about Shaffel because Ingelief use that words to describe so basically I just used the same words. I am sorry to cause some misunderstanding if that's what you base your theory on. In my point of view, I don't actually think Frank speak highly about Shaffel. But I do think he turned blind eyes when he talked about Shaffel. However, just like I wrote before that I think he turned blind eyes because Shaffel helped him with his career before. On the other hand, I don't know what's the relationship between "speak highly about someone" and "being friend with someone" You can speak highly about someone but not being friend with someone.

A good example is Quincy Jones. Michael spoke highly about him to the ends of his days and Quincy turned his back on Michael long before June 25. During the trial of 2005, Quincy publicly said he couldn't defend Michael because he didn't know him personally. This was after Michael spent years calling him his personal friend.

I'm sure Michael knew what Quincy said, but he never dogged him and still spoke nice words. I think he even met with Quincy back in 2007. So, you can think highly of someone because of what they're done for you in the past and not liked them for the things they did to you recently.

The question is did Frank mention anything that Shaffel did to MJ at all in the book or does he just just praised him? My problem would be being nice or even friends with the very people who started many or continued the very misconceptions u are trying to fix. How does that work? How very odd.

Correct me if I am wrong. I just wrote this post base on my memory. I don't think Frank mention anything Shaffel did to MJ and he didn't "praise" him either. At least I didn't remembered he praise Shaffel. He mentioned the "private home video", "what more can I give video" and several project he did with Shaffel and MJ. He also mentioned that Shaffel helped and connected him with some project around 02 03 during the time he took a break from MJ. That's why I said I didn't think he really speak highly about Shaffel and why I said he overlook what Shaffel did to MJ because Shaffel helped him before.

He mentions Shaffel doing the OMC video and the rebuttal video. He only describes him as "experienced producer" and I personally can't call it praising him. Furthermore it's important to note that no one is portrayed as evil in the book. The tone is harmonious. (other than perhaps Frank's personal issues with McClain)

And don't forget it's not really that easy to write overly negative things and accuse people of stuff - when they can sue you for defamation/ libel / slander.

Yes I know about defemation. But, I was just curious because he do mention his personal issues with McClain.

So I wondered if he knowledged the issues MJ had with Shaffel too.

Since he also mention the issues with Sony/Motolla I would have thought he would mention other issues MJ had with his bussiness partners aswell? But, I guess not?

Thanks all for reacting, personnaly i felt it was maybe highly speaking but the fact is i could be wrong. He didnt like is said above talked negative or what happend between shaffel and michael. Thats why i thought maybe he didnt know. he spoke about the projects they did. But maybe like ivy said its only being nice about everyone. The tone is really harmonious

I also can recommand this book respect and others here who hadnt read it. Because it sais alot in context, only us and the sum are not quit getting it correct IMO. The book is much better than some of this thread looks like.

I really respect frank and his book after reading it. So maybe try to read it?

Edit: I re read the part it isnt speaking highly but it isnt speaking bad either

Yeah, people only free feel doing that to Michael (see what Schaffel did to him)...

I personally don't think if Frank wrote about what is described about Schaffel above that could have been a basis for lawsuit. Those are things that are well documented in the media and also in the civil trial documents and there is no denying Schaffel and his lawyer used those tactics, claimed those things.

At least he didn't overly praise him then if he only praised him as an "experienced producer". However if Frank is silent about what Schaffel did to Michael after 2004 then he is too lenient to him, because then his book leaves the impression Schaffel was a positive player ("an experienced producer" and that's it) which is far from the truth. He was a vulture and a backstabber. Being nice to everyone in his book (except McClain with whom he had issues personally) is not necessarily nice to MJ...

It was you guys, who read it, who said Frank was praising Schaffel in his book. I reflected to that. Plus I answered your questions about what's wrong with Schaffel, what he did to Michael. Now you say he wasn't that praiseful after all. I don't know how praiseful he was but all of you, who read it, agree that he did not say anything about what Schaffel did to Michael between 2004-2006. That's why you had to ask what's wrong with him, right? I can have an opinion of that without reading the book, unless all of you lie about what's in the book. Which I don't think.

If he doesn't, "only" he does not talk about the bad things he did, that's still somewhat disappointing, but that's not to say the whole book is bad or that Frank is a bad person. I wish some wouldn't say just because many have questions about what frank over shares on MJs privacy in his book and those he choose to be nice to or friends with that we are somehow acting like people in the media, like Bashir.

well I see your point. In my POV I think maybe it's not the book's focus. The book is about MJ and Frank not MJ and his business associated. I think this kind of info may be included in the book such like JRT's (the biography kind of book). You can write a MJ book through different aspects. I doubt I would enjoy reading a book full of the who sued MJ, who backstab MJ etc. However, I do agreed that he can mention that Schaffel sued MJ later on. Like what I said before I think he overlook things but I also see the reasonable reasons to write the book this way. Basically, no one looked particular bad in his book. Like people questions a lot of what J family did and he didn't mention much of that (just a bit Joe doing business) and the list can go on and on. However, I doubt is there anyone who had direct contacts with J family or all the related people to write a book to list all the things people did to mistreat MJ or so called backstabber (don't know whether it's a proper word to use). I think only the person who don't have any connection to all those people can write it more freely.

Yes, I read the book and I agree with Ivy. I don't recall Frank praising Shaffel at all. As a matter of fact, he is writing kind of from his observation of the working relationship (and as most of the case, it always begin well). He did mention Shaffel is experienced and that he has a sense of humour that Michael can relate to in early 2000 when they were working together.

As for the later part when Shaffel sue Michael in court, well perhaps he might not be aware of what is going on since I am of the impression that Frank was out of the picture quite a bit after the 2002 MTV fiasco and more so after the accusation in 2003, almost no contact at all as instructed by the lawyers. So, he might or might not know the situation to be comfortable enough to write/spaculate about the situation. However, "respect" is right that Frank should perhaps mention that Shaffel is suing Michael in subsequent years (since this is a reported fact) but then if he is going to bring one into the book, he might have to mention others as well and that will really give the readers a feeling that Michael is being sued a lot (off hand, I can think of a few - Landis, Dieter, Ramone Bain, etc). Then, the book will be a lot different and is not the tone of the book which I would like to read.

Since Ivy brings up McClain, I was just pondering about this issue. I know is off topic but perhaps Ivy could give me her view on this. So far, personally, I don't think McClain is doing a lot for Michael's estate thus far. I guess his biggest input should have been the "Michael" album but I feel he handles the whole situation badly (ganging up with the family and rumours). I don't know how much is he involved in the Immortal album since Kevin Atunes is the one doing it.

That leaves the other 2 major project - "This is it" movie and "Immortal" which from what I can see and read, championed by John Branca. It would somehow seem unfair if McClain is getting 1/2 of the fees for managing the estate. Ivy, what do you think?

ha it would be nice to have a John MaClain Q&A. He is such a mystery guy. It seemed that he was very close to J family from the beginning. However, now everybody are pissed at him. Frank and Eddie Cascio, Teddy Riley and J family. Teddy Riley said quite harsh words to JM. I would like to know McClain more.

The Jackson`s never said something special against McClain. It seems they have only Branca in their spotlight when they mention the bad Estate.

So I`m really curios when Frank speaks about the campain from McClain and some Jackson-family-member against the Cascio-songs. I don`t get this.

The Jacksons don't go after McClain because he's actually an old friend of the family. He was kind of like the Branca to Janet and really got her career started by selling her as a female Michael. I think if McClain was more in charge, he would allow more family's members to have a say in the estate like Jackie and even T3 before the album, although I doubt he would appoint any of them officially.

The second reason why I personally think they don't go after McClain is because he's black. The Jacksons have been making some underline racist remarks towards the estate and I think Joe said outright white people were taking his son's money.

Wow, I cannot believe this discussion is still going on. This is my second post and I really like to read Ivy's comments, I think you're very astute and impartial, for the most part. However, on this subject regarding the ex-porn producer, I have to disagree. Not only is Frank complimentary of Marc Schaffel, he is also listed in the acknowledgements on page 328 and thanked by Frank. However, so is Karen Faye and that has me scratching my head as it appears she does not like Frank. The Rabbi is, but we all know he has a relationship with Frank, and Frank is also thanked in the Rabbi's book, so it's expected, but I was surprised to see not only Marc's name acknowledged but Al Malnik as well.

I enjoyed the book very much but there's a couple of things Frank said and did that had me scratching my head.

Did Frank also mentioned in the book that it's Al Manlnik is the one who write a letter to MJ and said Frank wanted money to put him through MJ? Al Manlnik is the one who made MJ suspicious about Frank at beginning? or I am remembered the wrong person.

To me the acknowledgement doesn't mean anything. Through my PhD study, I saw many student having grunge to their boss or even dislike their boss in big time or don't like their co-workers. However, they still acknowlege those people when they give a presentation or write an article.

I believe Randy was against McClain during the Cascio tracks fiasco on his twitter.

I just went back and find his tweets.

It's obvious that Randy Jackson blame McClain over Teddy Riley. For the Cascios track issue he is actually target McClain rather than Branca and SONY. That's why I think it's interesting that all different side of people don't like him. Frank, Eddie, Teddy Riley, and Randy etc. Teddy Riley and Randy both gave some harsh words to McCalin.

Frank does not mention it in the book, although in the book Frank makes it appear that his issues were with Trudy Green and John McClain: he did not thank them in the book like Malnik, whom Frank also praises in the book, and Schaffel. For me, personally, it means something as it's not a reference of acknowledgment in a professional sense but a personal one. Frank clearly omitted some people and included others.

No No I am not talking about the letter that fired him. I am talking about he mentioned an incident that MJ told his parents that he is taking money from people who wanted to do business with MJ. He went to MJ and asked why MJ saying all those things. MJ told him that some one wrote a official letter claiming Frank asked the money to make connection to MJ. I though he said the person who wrote the letter is Al Manlink? I need to go back home and checked the book again.

Yes, I know what you're talking about and if my memory serves me correctly, Frank does not mention ANY name in the book, he said it was just some powerful players, and he (Frank) said they were threatened by his position. And the way it's left up to interpretation in the book, you'd assume it was either Trudy Green or John McClain, particularly after Frank received the letter of dismissal. Frank said those who were out to get him were copied on the letter, the only other two names were Branca and Barry Siegel. While it could have been Barry, it doesn't appear to be the case, and Frank thanks Branca in the book as well, so I'd say it's not him.

NO I am not talking about the dismissal letter he got. I am talking about the incident before the dismissal letter and MTV fiasco. I remembered he mentioned some incident so he took a break and went back to NJ something like that. Gosh my memory is bad. Let me go home and check my book again lol sorry about the misunderstanding.

Edit: Oh Oh I got home and I read the part again. Yes, I remembered it wrong. Frank is saying someone in MJ's manage team wrote a letter to MJ and claimed Frank said "if you want to get anything done, deal with me. You don't need that guy in Florida, Al Malnik" and Frank stated that he didn't do that. My Bad~~

I agreed with you that Frank obvious don't like Trudy and McClain.
