I havent seen anyone else make this topic, and i think the DVD (made from a VHS upscale) has got enough post in the announcement section of the BAD25 section to warrent a thread of its own. Here i hope we can disscuss everything we have been talking about such as: Quality, Film rights, and just about everything else :)

I also would liek to know the likely hood that the Estate will get film rights and make a Blu-Ray of the Wembley show? If thats possible they should also jump on the Theater release, they would get more than their investment back on what they would have had to pay for the film in the first place.

Maybe someone could ask that to Estate?

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

would anybody know any info there? It would be weird to call and ask about MJ...haha

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

they filmed the concerts, perhaps they have original video footage that was recorded when played on the jumbo trons they provided for the gigs. I think this is the best bet rather than hoping for film footage.

Still better than the VHS tape...

I have only watched the Daybreak clip on YT, so I don't know how it looks on TV. From what I saw on my iPad (screen size isn't big), the clip is really terrible, quality wise. Of course Michael's performance is great. In my opinion, if this is the one and only source the Estate could find, then sustantial restoration is mendatory. There is no way that quality can be commercially released in this day and age. It's quite bad to watch SD programing on HD TV, it's even worse to watch a VHS on HD TV.

I hope the Estate is working not only on restoring the VHS, but also on locating the orginial master and/or the films.

I'll still buy Bad 25, no matter what. It's just regretful that Michael's live performance cannot be shown on a better medium.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

the snippet of the show aired in Daybreak is UN-enhanced. it is a raw clip coming from this VHS.

Michael has filmed most of his tours in pristine hi quality, some of this is of course shown in Moonwalker, same for the short films, they were shot in 35mm.

It is just al about accessing the right sources and there is obviously a problem about that.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

Imagine the surprise amoungst the fans if they found the film, and told us they were releasing a DVD with the CD, and as an extra a Bluray would also be coming out. They could charge 55-60 dollars for the deluxe edition package, i would buy it. I imagine $20 dollars is a fair price, it would only be $8 more expensive than the VHS(Dvd). I think thats fair?
I am hopefully they can find some kind of film....then a theater release would unleash MJ magic to the world. Bigger Sales, New Fans = More $$$$$$ for Sony and MJ. They can do this so right where it can benefit them, MJ's Image, MJ's Children's future, and it would satisfy fans, and the corperations. The Sky isnt the limit for Bad25. (Ive allready seen computer ads on 3-4 different computers.)

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

^^this is exactly my frustration. knowing the way michael worked, i just can't imagine he did not record the tour on film. for whatever reason, the film is not used. if they don't use the film recording for this release, then when? in another 10 years, in bad 50.

We will watch personal holograms by then :D

Lol... :lmao:

You think so? Don't forget they are decades behind. In the age of Blu-ray, they are going to release a DVD of very good VHS quality. In the age of hologram, we may finally get the Blu-ray.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

just rewatch THE ONE on DVD and you will see all this great excerpts off the 88 leg when Michael sings BAD. And all these MTV documentaries back then included snippets of the show hinting that of course they were taped in full.

I really hope this DVD will be enjoyable to watch and not just a "historical document" as it is derived from MJ's personal VHS.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

What VHS looks THAT good 25 years on? For that reason, I'm pretty happy with the quality.

But, who in the world would release a 25-year old VHS tape on a DVD in 2012? Like Richard said, I hope it's enjoyable enough as visual entertainment, not as a historical documentary.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

Thank you love is magical.
I just rewatched THE ONE DVD released in 2004 and it includes really hi quality footage... I hope we will have the same quality for this new DVD simply because Michael's performances deserve to be presented the best way to the world...

:punk:

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

^^Exactly! Michael's performance deserved to be presented in the best possible way. You know... When I walk in the DVD/Blu-ray section in electronic stores, I see a wide array selection of Blu-ray of other artists' concerts, like Justin Timberlake, Celine Dion, Beyonce, etc... For Michael, there is only This Is It. Bad Tour, if done right, can once again show the world what a phenonmeal live performer Michael was. A whole new generation has not seen Michael's Bad Tour. This new generation grows up in HD. High definition is what their eyes are used to now. Even my 65 year-old mother stops watching her VHS tapes because they show up badly on the HD TV.

Richard, now I understand why you said a good quality Bad Tour release is still a long way to go a while ago.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

I look at the Blu-Rays at Best Buy too....it seems as if everyone has them except Michael. The greatest entertianer of all time.

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

If there is no The Way You Make Me Feel in that Wembley concert, they should add it as extra material from other Bad Tour concert. This dvd will be amazing!

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

I am quite sure the estate will release something with the best quality they could ever find or make. I wonder if they would release it in Blu-ray, because the picture and especially the sound quality is amazing. I just hope its as perfect as i except. Just gettin the DVD was the best news this year. So exciting!! :)

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

I am still looking forward to this release! - It will be great!

Hope they will then release LA 89 on Blu-Ray in a few years. - That way we will get two BAD concerts!!

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

If they have LA '89 in better quality than Wembley, they should just go ahead and release it... simple as that.

I for one would be happy, don't know about others.

...

*waits for MJJLatvia to either to respond with an anti-LA '89 comment or praise Wembley '88*

I love LA. I basically love everything from Bad tour. (But Wembley little more :D)

You sure they CAN do it? Why didn't they announce it?

DVD from a VHS release of Wembley vs DVD/Blu-Ray release of LA '89 (or any other concert in better quality for that matter)?

That's an easy one if you ask me... :D

I said 'if they can', and I'm pretty sure they can't.

Still, wishful thinking!

Re: Bad Tour DVD (Disscussion Thread)

If they had LA in that quality, I'm pretty sure they would release that instead of this VHS Wembley even if most fans wanted Wembley.. I know I would.
