Pepsi Partners With Michael Jackson Estate for Commemorative Packaging [Pepsi Promo /Can discussion]

It's not mine. The person said they went to a Pepsi Plant and got it from there.

:woohoo: You just reminded me...there is a Pepsi plant about 10 minutes from me...omg..omg...I gotta check this out tomorrow after work....maybe I can get one....because at the rate things are going with my manager....I may not see the one that was promised to me. Ok...now I am more excited...:D

"Chase," a four-part Pepsi ad featuring Michael Jackson in his first-ever episodic commercial, airs during the Grammy awards and becomes the most-watched commercial in advertising history.

I found this while in the Pepsico website. This was in 1988 so don't know if it still stands. But here again Michael made HISTORY!! :clapping: I remember when this happened so well. It was sooo cool! I wish we would get this someday in a DVD/Blu ray release.

^Is that a fact still? That's awesome. In the 80's Pepsi gave Coke a run for their money, largely thanks to Michael's commercials and his association with the company. It was the first time Pepsi sales outdid coke. How effing awesome was the sheer power of Michael?

Yep, he ruled the world back then, everything he touched turned to gold. Even now, he still has a huge impact even though he is no longer with us. I am so proud to be a Michael Jackson fan for so many reasons!

Hi Ivy, is there any way you could contact the Estate or Pepsi and ask what is happening with this campaign? It seems it is very slow in unfolding and the stores are not giving it any priority. It is up to Pepsi and their salespeople to make sure the product is out there in full display. The consumer demand is there for this special product. There is no doubt even non-soda drinkers like myself will buy this product and they are missing this huge opportunity for sales. Do they realize this? I am sure they do, but either they are not aware of the problems or just don't care.

If there was a contact number for Pepsi or maybe letting the estate know about the issue, maybe they could expedite this promotion. This was a deal btwn the estate and Pepsi and they should honor it. At least give us an explanation of the problems or delays. Thank you.

I'd love to see a 'fan questions' session to the Pepsi USA marketing department...!

Yeah. Plus I wanna talk to either of them about why isn't Canada getting the cans like other countries are getting like US, China, Ireland and most other countries in Europe, Asia and Australia, because I'm threatening to boycott Pepsi if they don't give Canada the cans and I will never buy anymore Pepsi. They'll lose a customer.

I just want to tell you guys, don't give up hope! My area FINALLY got them in today! I chased down the pepsi delivery guy at the store I work at today and asked if he had seen them yet because I've been looking everywhere. He said yes, they just got them and today he delivered them to Safeway and Walgreens (so of course I went to Walgreens to pick up 4!). I also asked him if he could get me a display and he said yes. I AM PRAYING SO MUCH THAT HE ACTUALLY GETS ME ONE. I would seriously love that guy forever! He said it would be no problem but sometimes people forget and I only work a couple days a week so I don't see him all the time. I'm really hoping! Otherwise, I'm hoping to get the one from Walgreens :p

Where do you live? I really hope that is the case for all of the U.S. We should ALL be complaining about this. What did a very wise man say? "When we raise our voice as one" we may get something done like what happened with "Michael" and the DVD quality. WE WANT THESE CANS!
pretty please :praying

I live in Maryland. Pepsi decided to take it's sweet time getting them to this state. If boring old MD gets them, surely Florida (and other states) will. They are just being slow. But it really is ridiculous how many people can't find them yet! I had been hunting everyday asking all the managers at stores and they hadn't even heard of it. Talk about poor promotion!!

And I would be willing to pick some up and ship to people for the price of the can plus shipping. But it's probably best to wait a little longer to see if you get them before paying like $5 or whatever in shipping costs.

I live near DC and I too found them just today at a 7-11!

I am still looking. We may have to hire a bus and go to the cities where some of you spotted them, especially the place with lots in the cart.

:hysterical:
The bus tour name could be:
Hunt for Pepsi cans (Hunt for Red October)
Pepsi can hunter (Deer hunter)

I know its not funny that we have to go looking for these cans, but the mental picture of all the people looking them, running after delivery guys, going shop to shop - state to state, going to Pepsi plants is kind of funny
I think Michael is the only one that can make us to do such a things:wub:

i went to walmart to buy more cans (since somebody took my cans )...but couldn't find any..then i went to another walmart with no luck either =(. but my friend works at a store in ny said there's a lot of them, so she's buying me cans and i bought her the single (since there arent many walmart in ny) . so i will be getting them sometime next week =). my questiong is why is so hard to find these cans ? are they hiding them or something?

Aren't they're only one billion cans made... idk i'd guessed it's worldwide.. 1 billion for 7 billion people

I have officially given up. I live In Broward County Florida and can't find them in my area. Been to 3 Walmart's, 2 Walgreens, 2 Targets, Publix (4),and CVS. Every week I have made my rounds.

these cans kinda lost their significance to me. instead of being the symbol of celebration of a great album, they become something that made zero impact and are impossible to be found and seen. honestly, this pepsi campaign is useless thus far.

there is a huge pepsi billboard around penn station. i was just thinking why pepsi doesn't even bother changing it to the special MJ theme one to coincide with the release of the MJ can.

Ask a store to order them for you.

Sure people can do but it's not how a promotion normally works is it.

Agreed. This promotion amazes me.

I'm amazed that a giant company like Pepsi joins together with a giant pop star like Michael Jackson and 'promotes' a product by only printing very discreet promotional designs (they don't exactly stand out on the shelves) on one size of it's product line and then makes it almost invisible in the stores, even to those people who are actively hunting for them. :bugeyed

Just how has this promotion helped either Michael Jackson's Estate or Pepsi? Has this generated any meaningful increase in sales of either pepsi or presales for BAD25? I doubt it. Certainly not for Pepsi because nobody can buy a can they don't know exists or can't find in stores. Probably not for BAD25 because nobody can see the cans in stores and so cannot be made aware (by the 'promotion') that BAD25 is being released.

I'm starting to think this was a promotion born of a need by the Estate to promote BAD25 and not a marketing idea by Pepsi. I'm starting to think the Estate approached Pepsi who agreed to some 'promotion' for a fee. The Estate paid a fee for this and has got some lousy 'promotion' out of it. I can't believe that if Pepsi actually wanted to actively promote their brand with MJ or BAD25 they would do it in such a useless manner. Whenever Pepsi run a promo campaign in the UK there have been TV ads, billboards, and the cans are everywhere. I was expecting the same from the MJ/Pepsi campaign when I first read about it. It seemed to get off to a reasonable start in China but has been invisible in the USA and is not even being promoted at all in the UK. what a waste of time.

Rant over.

I have a friend of my dad's who does business in the US a lot...So far he's been to three states (Montana is one of them, don't know the other two), and he's found no cans for me....He's also got two friends of his looking in Texas right now...So far, nothing...

Absolutely ridiculous. But I'm not surprised at all.

This isn't promotion at all...Good promotion is one in which the customer does not have to lay a finger in finding what they need...It should be EVERYWHERE...

Can anyone explain how exactly this messed up Pepsi promotion actually promotes BAD 25??

Wasn't that what this whole thing was originally all about?

The weird thing is the Pepsi promotion will be over within a couple of months before the BAD items even get released. I just don't get it.

I don't think it promotes Bad25- at least in USA. In China it seems to be more closely connected to Bad 25. I think it's just a side project. They create a special can for Michael and they give out remixes of Bad. So people will see it and they will remember Michael and it will create the environment for the Bad release.

Sony Ireland have already announced long time ago that Pepsi promotion will be in Ireland too....I haven't seen a single Pepsi can or any kind of promotion so far....

Better pray they don't screw ya. Cause I pray that Canada should get the cans or else it's boycotting time.

I looked up the original Press Release Pepsi put out not long ago, and here it is. Are we experiencing the things they said would happen???

To celebrate Jackson's incredible contribution to pop music, Pepsi, Sony Music and the Estate of Michael Jackson have teamed up to share new mixes of legendary Michael Jackson music from the BAD album with fans around the world, proving that the King of Pop is not only the world's most iconic artist from the 20th century but also influencing music in the 21st century as well.

Brad Jakeman, president, Global Enjoyment Brands, and chief creative officer, PepsiCo Global Beverages Group, said, "Pepsi has always been at the forefront of pop culture, helping to shape the music landscape. "We are thrilled to bring Michael and Pepsi back together, as they were in 1988, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the BAD album and tour and to put Michael on one billion Pepsi cans – perhaps a Guinness record," commented John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson. Branca and McClain added, "We're excited to see it all come to life."

China and the United States will be among the first Pepsi markets to launch the exclusive Michael Jackson King of Pop activity in 2012, with approximately 20 additional markets in Asia, South America and Europe continuing the international roll-out throughout the rest of the year.

On May 5 in China, a 330ml limited edition can will be available at retail locations nationwide. In addition, from May 15 - June 14, 2012, fans will be encouraged to share photos of their valuable Jackson collections or original artwork celebrating him, for a chance to win tickets to Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil, as part of China's "In Honor of King of Pop MJ" promotion.

Later in May, the U.S. will launch a nationwide retail campaign including a limited edition 16oz. King of Pop Pepsi can, as well as initiate a retail, music-themed promotion.

Frank Cooper, chief marketing officer, Global Consumer Engagement, PepsiCo added, "Michael Jackson will always be the King of Pop, and his music has always inspired fans and artists alike. But, this partnership goes beyond nostalgia and will engage with consumers all around the world with iconic imagery on more than one billion Pepsi cans, digital content and epic, live events, so that they can continue to connect with Jackson's music and honor his legendary impact on entertainment."

Michael Jackson has a long standing relationship with Pepsi spanning more than 25 years. The legendary King of Pop starred in his first Pepsi campaign alongside his brothers in 1983, as part of the Pepsi 'New Generation' campaign followed by Pepsi's sponsorship of the epic BAD Tour and the iconic "Chase" commercials which served as the impetus for the current reunion. Pepsi also featured Jackson in the 'Music Icons' commercial that premiered during The X Factor in 2011.

Pepsi's new "Live for Now" campaign is a culmination of extensive global research demonstrating Pepsi fans' desire to capture the excitement of now and live each moment to the fullest. First launched in the U.S. last month, "Live for Now" will come to life through a breadth of global, pop-culture platforms, events and unique partnerships and will begin to roll out globally throughout 2012.

^^ @ 'engaging retail campaign'

:wtf:

It's only engaging hardcore MJ fans who have to embark on this futile treasure hunt to find these cans...The general public won't care if they find them or not, cuz they won't be looking for them...lol...

Ah well, it's only Pepsi cans...but still, the promotion is lacklustre when it promised all these things

Sony Ireland have already announced long time ago that Pepsi promotion will be in Ireland too....I haven't seen a single Pepsi can or any kind of promotion so far....

They'll probably cancel the promotion in all other territories citing poor US sales as the reason :cheeky:
(Never mind the fact the cans are as rare as rocking hose dung! You can't sell a product nobody knows exists or nobody can find)

HA!! And where are these "epic live events" and so forth they are going on about??

Oh well. As you said, it's only soda cans. I guess it was too much to anticipate the good old days when Michael was actually shown on TV on commercials and we actually got excited about Pepsi. Now all we are doing is running around like a bunch of nuts looking for some pop cans that may or may not exist. It will never be like it was before.:(
