Pepsi Partners With Michael Jackson Estate for Commemorative Packaging [Pepsi Promo /Can discussion]

Well, since they aren't even displaying the cans in the proper display case... they should just go ahead and let you have the display case now. Sounds like it's just sitting there collecting dust in some back office. That's sad, isn't it?

Who is responsible for setting up the display cases anyway? It is the Pepsi delivery man or someone in your store? If it's Pepsi dropping the ball on this whole thing... some people should be fired.

The Pepsi man dropped off the cans...and the grocery manager is the one that is incharge of displaying them...usually Pepsi takes care of restocking the shelves..but when there is a special promotion in the store the store is responsible to set up that special display. It makes me very angry really...because these cans are not getting the attention that they deserve...again..people that make the most money are taking the lazy way out...and that is not fair...to the fans or to Michael...if I could afford to buy those cans I would and I would send them to everyone...to bad life isn't that simple ...it pains me to see those cans sitting there like that.

I have to say I was a massive fan of the Pepsi/MJ promotion in the beginning and was looking forward to it, but the more I read about the way this is being handled in the USA the more I think this is a wasted opportunity...
China seemed quite successful but Pepsi USA is failing IMO.
Why are there so few cans on sale that even hardcore fans who are looking for them have difficulty finding them? What kind of promotion is that? It seems pointless. Promotion should be aimed at PROMOTING a product, ensuring awareness for people who wouldn't otherwise be aware of it, reaching out to a wide audience, not making it difficult to find for those who already know it exists. They should be selling those cans everywhere that normally sells Pepsi. It's amazing to me that store staff don't even know about the promotion. Also, why is there no TV promo in the US? Surely even a small clip should be expected.

Totally agree. If I was a pepsi shareholder, I think I'd be fairly annoyed that good money has been 'thrown away' on an inefficient promotion. The saddest thing about it, is that at the end of the campaign, when they look at the USA sales figures, at this rate they won't show much effect from the promotion, so next time pepsi are thinking about who to tie in with, it is unlikely to be Michael....which would be Pepsi's fault, not Michael's.

The estate should explain to the community whats goning on with the pepsi promotion. this can't be it.

each store does their own thing. I went to 2 walmarts.

One of them had close to 1,000 cans, there was no special display and such but the cans were put right by the doors. So it was the first thing you see when you enter the store. They kept the white boxes which wrote "King of Pop Special Edition" The cans were also available in some of the little fridges by the checkout. So it's more than okay in regards to exposure.

The second store I checked and checked could not find the cans then I finally spotted them. they were on a little shelf by the side of a soda shelf. So basically it was with thousands of other soda, they were limited in number (around 40 or so) and they definitely did not stand out. They had no price tag either. So unless someone is a MJ fan and looking to every shelf, every place in great detail ( I didn't see them the first time I passed them) it wouldn't stand out at all.

And the thing is... this "promotion" (if you can even call it that) is suppose to end in about a month. It's just such a wasted opportunity and no attention to it at all. It just bugs me that such a hyped up effort has fizzled into pretty much nothing here.

wow it looks like Walmart has more cans than it needs...its such a shame that these cans are just sitting there. Same in my store...the only ones that have been bought are the one's that my daughter bought for me. such a shame...Pepsi should of done a better job with the distribution of these cans to other countries. :(

edited to add..I still say there should of been commercials to promote this....people seeing things on tv is what makes them buy products....why Pepsi cheaped out and didn't make one for this is beyond me.

I'd say almost no one in Norway even knows about "Bad 25". No pepsi ads, no cans, no nothing.

Also, they should've used BAD as the first single. They want to appeal to the younger generation - surely they won't care much for a ballad. They want fast songs with cool beats. BAD would be the best for this.

They aren't just sitting there. I went to the same store to buy the IJCSLY CD single and I took a comparison picture 6 days later. They had sold 192 (16 boxes of 12) cans. Like I said it's by the door and it's really hard to miss. Although there's no MJ picture, it attracts attention. If they continue to average 225 cans a week, they'll be sold out in 3 weeks by the end June / beginning of July like the campaign timeline. It seems like they got one shipment and put it all on the floor the same time.

It's the other store that's problematic IMO. The cans are lost among million other soda cans.

ouch someone posted this on twitter apparently this is how cans are displayed at a grocery store chain in Wisconsin and parts of Illinois

wow...what a shame...again..imporper displaying of these cans...if the store only knew what these cans mean to MJ fans and that they would probably sell a whole lot more if the consumer could find them. I am however a bit confused as to how they can only sell them for 89 cents a can when the promotion price is definitely 1 dollar a can.

so my curiosity was up...so I went up to my store and asked the manager why haven't I received the Pepsi display yet...seeing as you are not using it to display the Pepsi cans cant I just have it now....and he said....oh I never got it....I was like...you told me last week that you had it and it was upstairs in the office. He said well the other Pepsi vendor was a friend of mine and he was getting it as a favor to me...but he isn't with this store anymore.. .so now he has to ask the new guy. I was pretty irritated that he stood there and lied in my face...I mean really...he told me it was in the office upstairs...and now.....he doesn't even have it!!!. I should of known better than to trust him...he is a knew manager from another store and he is young..22 to be exact. Well see if he comes through on his promise...I doubt it now. :(

@ xthunderx2: :huggy:

seems like your manager is one of those people who don't exactly know what they are doing.

this pepsi bad 25 campaign is counter-intuitive. forget about promoting bad 25, it's almost mission impossible to find the damn cans. there has been no tv promo. no one knows there is special edition pepsi can.

If the cans were displayed like that at one of my local stores I would just wheel the whole cart to the register and it would make my whole shopping trip a lot quicker :)

Good idea. I would buy the whole thing and send to fans in other countries, but right now I can't even find one can for myself. I will check Target in Manhattan and the Bronx and see if I could find a can. This campaign is driving me nuts!!!!!!!

Gosh... that's painful to look at.:( Just thrown into that cart like a bunch of junk on the clearance aisle. I suppose whoever was in charge of putting the cans out on display in the store, doesn't like Michael. If that a**hole only knew how desperate some of us are to lay our hands on these cans. Ugh!!

That sucks! Sorry to hear that. Maybe you'll get lucky and get it after all. I hope so. :) You may have to remind him though. Sometimes persistence pays off.

I
t suc
ks because it's MJ...but this is not unusual. I have see soda and what not displayed the same way.

Pepsi (or Estate for that matter) cannot dictate how a store displays its items. They each have their own way of doing things...so don't take it personal.

I haven't seen ANY yet. Though, I've only looked in Walmart, Target, and Publix. No luck yet...
Are they sold individually or in cases as well?

thanks for the hugs I sure need it. I agree how are people going to know that this is a special promo if it is not advertised as one. I dont understand maybe we are missing somthing....maybe the estate didn't give Pepsi permission to make a MJ commercial promoting the Bad25 cans. I dont know..I am just baffled at the lack of promotion.

thank you friend. Well when he said that it wasn't in the office....I said to him well the campaign ends soon...and he said...yeah...I know July...so who knows...maybe he will get it. Guess I'll have to wait and see. :mello:

Anyone knows why there won't be MJ-Pepsicans in Germany? I don't get the strategy from Pepsi.

Ivy that pic that you posted in this thread here http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/threads/122489-BAD-25-NEWS-ONLY-THREAD-NO-Discussion/page4 of the MJ display....were did you find that display...it is beautiful...omg...I have to have it....I needa find it. Thats it..when I go back to work tomorrow..I am gonna have a longggg talk with my manager about that damn display he promised me. LOL
