Justin Bieber's album "Believe" has people talking, including naysayers that think he isn't Michael Jackson now, and he might not be up to par with him later either. As if he has to be to be dubbed the King of Pop instead of the prince of it.

The New York Times reported that "Mr. Bieber doesn't have Mr. Timberlake's backbone" and "Mr. Bieber doesn't quite have the gravity that Mr. Jackson did" but writer Jon Caramanica says the young pop star appears to be trying to measure up anyway.

And he cites Bieber's "Maria," as one example, essentially mirroring Jackson's "Billie Jean" song to deal with the issue of scheming girls.

And that's where the Times' writer is right, as it is highly likely that many male pop singers have had to deal with females making accusations of impropriety against them.

And it's only logical that they would give voice to it in a song, as that is their method of expression, right?

Justin Bieber, however, doesn't appear to be trying to sing or act like Michael Jackson in any other way. He isn't reclusive, and he appears far from shy. And on top of that, the Biebs can't boast growing up in a showbiz family; where at the age of 13, Jackson was already releasing his own music.

The two pop idols are worthy of their own space in the limelight of society. And that includes letting the music of both stand on its own, without being measured against the others.

Justin Bieber is no Michael Jackson, and Jackson was no Bieber. And fans of both men can celebrate that fact, as they likely appreciate the music of both. And it does nothing for either singer or their fans to compare the two. Just like comparing Madonna to Lady Gaga is pointless.

Justin should just be Justin. There is no point in comparing him to Michael.

is this real life? im still trying to understand if im really reading this... Comparing One of the biggest icons of all time, Arguably the most famous man on the earth, the biggest selling artist of all time, a man who broke racial boundaries,a true visionary who not only changed what music sounded like, but changed what it looked like as well.. to a 17 year old boy who makes generic robot like pop music, with lyrics like "let me be your buzz lightyear and fly across the universe" who has done not one thing to impact music, performing, or any art form in any way..
The same people saying this are probably the same ones that said "the jonas brothers are the next Beatles" all these little teen "heart throbs" can just take a seat... thank you.

In answer to the question posed by this thread the answer is a DEFINITIVE NO,He and the other copycats can try as hard as they want they will never come close to Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson was Unique, Genuine, Ground Breaking Artist.

I just don't understand why he's being compared to MJ....I mean, WHY? WHAT? WHERE? WHEN? HOW? He's not even close....He has nothing to do with MJ...I'm a little tired of the comparisons as if there's anything to actually compare.....

I'm listening to "The Lost Children" as I read this thread and it just makes me shake my head how Bieber's "music" can be compared to such beautiful, real music from the heart. I don't get it but I guess every new big artist gets their minutes of fame and comparison to Michael Jackson. So far it's been Usher, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, etc. etc. now Bieber. The next "big singer" is going to be compared to him as well. They so bad want "another Michael Jackson." It just isn't going to happen.

Honestly, I'm really starting to think Justin takes advantage of his fandom for Michael just so he can get brownie points and more appreciation. But that's just me. Sorry, not getting any from me.

I've also heard talk about Justin's new song/single and there's not a doubt in my mind that he basically tried to record his own version of "Billie Jean."

Shame that MJ's music and he as an artists is always being compared to singers and performers like Beiber. And i have nothing against Justin, i think he is very talented but i don't understand why compare MJ always to this kind of artists. To me is like trying to place him in a certain level which inferior to him and they are doing a great job.

I think the comparation with Bieber came up now because of the "Mariah" song (same theme as Billie Jean) and because Bieber himself is playing on the MJ thing now recently in his songs and PR. That doesn't mean he's put on the same level.

Back in the 90s I remember the UK media compared Take That (a British boy band) to the Beatles. These kind of stupid comparations always happen.

OMG !!!!!!! again with the mj/jb comparions IT NEEDS TO STOP!

Seriously its becoming so ridiculous its not funny anymore

Wow. This shows how underrated MJ is to the general public today.

Hmm, I agree with respect77, these comparisons are always made no matter what.
Adam Lamber is compared to Freddie Mercury and Elvis, just a name a few.
Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Usher, C Brown Justin B are compared to MJ, just a name a few,
and the best comparison in my mind goes to One Direction compared to Beatles. There are others that are compared to Beatles such as Jonas Brothers.

I personally don't think that Justin cannot be compared to Michael. I saw first half an hour of Justin's Never Say Never (not sure about the name) concert, and all I could see girls faces in the audience.
Only male faces were security and tour staff. In order to be as big as Michael, he needs to be attractive for both genders, unfortunately to Justin, he is attractive only for girls.
Michael had this pulling power to attract all sort of genders and there were no age limitation in his fans.

I forgot to add one thing, of course Justin needs to have musical talent too:)

It is not really a relevant article or source. Or is it?
celebs.gather.com I don`t know this site. And maybe it is better to ignore it then to give this article and this site a relevance in this forum.

Who cares about this site.

perhaps "they" should've appreciated Michael more when he was still with us....

Exactly. I don't know anybody that likes Justin Bieber. I am not putting him down but his music is no interest to me and if he only attracts the young girls then he will have problems later on. Michael's music is for everybody. He could touch all generations.

No way! I am sorry but I don't even understand why a lot of people like this kid. I got curious and watched Never say never when it was on cable. I didn't finish it. His voice is average and he is a lousy dancer. Sorry to say this but no way can the kid be even compared to MJ.

I think I am get used to it. Whenever there is a new hot star, Media will compare them to Michael. I started to take it as the complement cause Michael is forever a threatening to those stupid media. They tried to put him down when he was alive and continue to do so now, but always fail miserably. Simply because Michael Jackson is the greatest ever.

I still think Justin bieber is the good kids but I find him a bit annoying lately. He is the huge mj fan obviously so I will give him a pass. I feel his copying is from his admiration, we mj fans are all guilty of it :D Anyway bieber always speaks about his admiration to Michael in interviews. In his latest one he said he think Michael is the greatest again.

Justin can never be his own artist. MJ changed the way you hear and see Pop, and Justin is only famous for copying MJ, i see it everywhere... in public, in his performances and songs! His fans are blind and believe its all his original work, even in my own school i remember trying to do the moonwalk and girls were like "omg you do it just like JB!" and at that exact moment i think i was about to smack them with my shoe -_-

There are people who think Justin created or it's his move? Oh brother.

I don't know anybody too, but he is not my generation. However, try to search youtube for "Justin Bieber surprise tickets" and see for yourself.
Yes, he mostly attracts the young girls. Normally I would think that after couple of years in the spotlight he would fade already by now. However, he is still going quite strong despite his voice change.
I personally don't care about articles comparing him to Michael on some obscure websites. This will pass. As to Justin's future, I frankly don't know. A year ago I would bet anything that he would go into oblivion quite soon. But he is evolving. We'll see.

He will fade IMO unless he doesn't find his own voice as an adult artist (and that is NOT to rip-off people like MJ - that's copying, not finding his own voice). He has never been that big to begin with. Yes, he has a quite loud and enthusiastic fan base among teenage girls, who are very active on the Internet, but his sales are not that big. According to Wikipedia his My World 2.0 and Under The Misletoe albums sold only a little more than 1 million copies in the US. Considering the talk about him here and elsewhere I was surprised to see how insignificant he really is even commercially.

He's a teen star who only appeals to teen girls. But he will have to find a way to break out of that if he wants to be successful on the long term, because his fans will grow up and move on if he doesn't.

When the next ''cute teen pop star'' comes along teen girls will probably dumb Bieber and move onto that guy

It's so tiring and ... "funny" - Why absolutely they want to find another Michael Jackson !! JB or any copycats can't live by himself ? believe that someone can reach the level of a complete artist like Michael is just an utopy -
let them dream
