The best way to juge the accual improvements made by professionals would be comparing the look of the source, the famous MJ's VHS and the final DVD. Of course, it'll stay in the dream zone as Estate, with a great possibility, will never release even a screen of the accual source.

But I agree with you MJMax in everything you said. There are many obvious mistakes made by the restoring crew which we can clearly see. Quality is not great, what's more! I would say it's not even good. I was a bit surprised when I saw APOM cuz regarding the Bad snippet from Daybreak, I honestly had no hope...

I finally got my hands on a uncompressed rip of Another Part Of Me from the DVD.

AWESOME quality. Nothing like the uploaded versions on amazon... :D

Did you watched the video before you ring the bells? Its recording of web-stream, from amazon. No original file, nor its uncompessed rip from the dvd. upscale to 1280x720 with name slaped in the left corner.

Huh? This is mine. I NEVER claimed it was uncompressed, original or anything of the sort. Sorry to anyone who downloaded it thinking it was original.
 
With all the talk about the quality, can I just say I just LOVE this video! I can't stop watching it, Michael is so fantastic. It makes me happy. Regardless of the quality this will be a mega show!
 
people. this discussion is a waste of time. next week, when the dvd is out, noone speaks about this file here anymore.
use your enegery and time somewhere else.
for myself, the two files (UK & France) are stored in the collection. thats it. next is dvd. i'm finished with this two files. but dicuss for days and days is only wasting time.

That doesn't look like it was done from compression or was it? And MJMax I said the same thing as you with the leasing and taking short cuts and being cheap with restoring this and using the VHS versus leasing the footage and all that good stuff. It's pathetic with what the estate is doing...
It looks like they did a bad job. They did a job like those amateur YouTube guys who "restore videos". The type everyone makes fun of nowadays...
I think the video looks more like a painting then anything. It doesn't look natural or clear. What have they done :(
Plus we all know the estate isn't so trustworthy....
I think they could of used something else or something better quality. They are just being cheap using MJ's VHS. Sigh.

^^ Code - This is not the final quality of the DVD. Its a fan upload from a compressed source. I wish someone would address your last few posts . The Estate doesnt have access to any other source of this concert - only the VHS. (you assuming they do doesn't make it so.) If they did they would use it. It would be to their benefit to use the best source they can. To say they deliberatly want to put out a lesser quality inferior product is riduculas and makes No sense. They want to please and appease the fans .. not piss them off.

Majority of fans are pleased with what the Estate has done for us with this BAD25 release. We havent even seen the Final DVD's quality yet. Now could it be improve? of course . any product can be enhanced further. even by fans. that doesnt make this product inferior - They did a great job. .. Could someone else do a little better - of course .. but does Estate have access to that someone and know they can do better - probably no. Lets stay real here.
 
Let's face it people...
The Estate have done the best they can with a 25 year old VHS tape.
We have two choices...

A - Buy the DVD and be satisfied with the probably less than perfect video quality, but realise that a 5.1 mix from the master audio recording will more than adequately make up for that.

B - don't buy it, and bitch about how how you think the Estate couldn't be arsed to find the U-matic master, and have therefore shafted us by not doing so.

Your choice!!!

Me personally.. I was at the gig as a 14 year old, so even if it was a copy of the original VHS without any restorative work done to it and a basic stereo front of house mix, I'd buy it!
That's why I'd go for option A!

Not all fans are pleased. I read more fans commenting saying they are not pleased then fans actually writing they are pleased. I am not clueless. We are all making assumptions. Most of us are clueless. I haven't read most posts. And I didn't know it wasn't the final quality,neither do you or others. And not sure about that. Pretty sure they could of found something. I have read and heard many things. They took shortcuts. I think we all forgot how much it costs to use and get footage like this. They may of lost the 35 MM,but that doesn't mean others don't have it. And have we all forgot too that the estate is not trustworthy? And I'm not sure if they did a great job,but if you want to think that,then sure. And I am staying real.

People need to understand that they spent more money restoring an old tape than restoring the old film reels. It's not logical to think that they had them, but did not use them.

Estate, Sony, you did an amazing job! Keep up the good work! You have my support!
 
Well I must say, I am looking forward owning this deluxe set. VHS it is. Period.
 
This quality discussion is does not bring anything really

- they don't have the film to make bluray quality. just accept it. wishing and wanting will not change anything.

- they restored a 25 year old VHS. it's going to come with it's limitations, it won't be perfect. accept this reality.

- we have online streams, rips, youtube uploads with differentiating compression and quality. accept that we have an idea about the quality but we haven't seen the end product.

- in the end, the decision is simple, you either buy it or don't buy it. with 7 to 11 days to release date (depending on where you are) all these quality discussion is not going to change anything.
 
They have shown me they have turned over a new leaf with this release and have promised to listen to fans. John Branca himself personaly spoke with many fans and promised they are listening and want to the the best for MJ. This release proves they are. He even apologised for the casico tracks and assured the rest will never see the light of day. He said MJ deserved better. The Estate have given us more than we could ever ask for with this package. Do you have complaints about the rest of BAd25 Or is it just the DVD that no one has seen yet that you are unhappy with?

Now You can discuss quality in here till the cows come home I dont care. :) What I take issue with and deem to be nonsense is to accuse the Estate of having a better quality then the VHS and refusung to release it. There is NO logical reason to do that. that doesnt help earn more money, it doent serve MJ or help thier repustation to do so. So why would they. Im just tired of the conspiracy I guess.
 
Re-inforcing ivy's post here, but this is what I think we must accept.

1. This is a 25 year old VHS, it looks amazing for what it is, and is certainly enjoyable.
2. There are no film masters! This is all they had to bring with a complete experience of the show.

No fan can say they aren't excited for it because this is a FULL Bad tour second leg show! The quality may not be super HD like the moonwalker blu-ray (which some of you bitch about but come on it's a VHS) This is the most complete experience we're getting of the Bad Tour 2nd leg, and the Estate have done a fantastic job. No two ways about it. Bitch all you want about whatever Queen release, or what they should have, this is the best they've got in terms of a full experience. I don't care about Queen, I care about Michael Jackson, and one of the reasons I care about MJ is because of how good he was on stage, and we're finally getting the chance to see one of the most sought after tours, and all we do is complain? You really are missing out people. It is a VHS yes, but for god sake it looks amazing and they've done an outstanding job putting this whole package together because it can't be easy trying to do a Michael Jackson release, and do it well which I think for the first time, they truly have.
