Wembley DVD content - discuss Michael, his concert and performance ONLY [discussion ]

Re: BAD 25: The Original BAD Tracks CD 1 [Discussion]

It's such a shame that BAD25 doesn't come with '87 original mixes, especially when they did release the original IJCSLY with spoken intro as a single.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Did anyone else think it was weird after Smooth Criminal that MJ went in to an on-stage tent in order to change his clothes? What was the point of that? Why didn't he just go off-stage to change his clothes?

so the crowd got more excited in the beginning of THRILLER ;) i think, perfect show ya know

Re: BAD 25 Demo's unreleased, unheard Studio songs Discussion [previews added]

BAD is one of my favorite albums but they could of done better only song I like was al capone, How come they never put tomboy, groove of midnight, girl of another love, someone put your hand out 1987 version on the album why? Too me it wasn't right at all how they did it them songs really didn't groove me or hype me to another level, Cause we know michael got some powerful tracks in the bad era that people are dying too hear.

There's no guarantee that Michael finished any of those songs, or even completed them to a point that they could be used. I personally think that every single song on this album is just jaw droppingly good.

To me, 'for all time' trounces anything on Bad 25. Michael oversaw the other artists. one will i am tune is cool. that's enough for me. and i already had bucharest. i loved that. you know what..i limit myself to this thread. people celebrate what they wish to celebrate. the fact is, i still play stuff from Thriller 25, today. i wonder if people will still be playing stuff from Bad 25 in 2016. as far as Wembley goes, though...yes i can understand that. there's nothing to oversee on that. that's a complete concert. and i do have a concert recording of Michael. He has released those, before.

No way. Just no way. For All Time is a spectacular song, but so far as remixes Michael made a terrible decision. Every remix, except for WBSS 2008, is terrible. Whereas on Bad 25, the Afrojack/Nero remixes are pretty good. The Estate did ten times for Bad 25 what Michael did for Thriller 25, in all honesty.

Then please provide the statements and quotes where he says he would not want his demos or anything from him to be released at all after he dies.

The alternative to releasing demos, concerts and stuff is to not to release anything at all any more. Ever. Sure, they could release best of compilations again and again, but after the gazzilionth such compilation album who would buy that? There's only as many times you can sell Billie Jean and Beat It. We already have lots of best of albums of MJ on the market.

So the alternative is not to release demos with the reasoning that "Michael would not have wanted unfinished stuff to be released" (and you know how what Michael's stance would be about times when he's not here any more and he cannot create any new songs?).
Then they also should not release concerts, because "had Michael wanted to release them he would have released them when he was alive".

So basically those who say such things want the Estate to just sit there and do nothing at all. I'm not sure if that really is what Michael wanted from his Estate. Or if he did he would have and should have made it clear in his Will, IMO.

Exactly. Fans are some of the most impatient people in the world and start panicking if a release doesn't come at least once a year. Michael has tons of unreleased stuff left in the vault to release, and the Estate is going to release it both to please fans and to make money. We all enjoy it, so why complain?

That's all I'm going to say about this matter.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Watched the DVD! LOVED EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF IT! From WBSS to APOM to Rock With You to Billie Jean, to EVERYTHING! Best concert I've ever watched! A huge thank you to the Estate for having this Wembley concert released! Waited for 2 long years and finally its here! It's just, pure...MICHAEL JACKSON, THE KING OF POP!

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Watched it last night. I put it on 4:3, as i like my mj tall and lean. It was sublime, he really looked happy and was so hyped up right from the first song. I'm a complete luddite with technology so the lack of sharp definition in the quality wasn't an issue for me - i thought the dvd really captured the atmosphere and excitement of mj in concert. I will be watching this alot.

Re: BAD 25: The Original BAD Tracks CD 1 [Discussion]

The 2nd pressing was released in 1988 on Michael's request. Updated mixes and cut intro on IJCSLY.
These new mixes first appeared digitally remastered on HIStory's disc 1 "HIStory Begins" in 1995.

what is the cataloge number of the 2nd pressing of bad released in 1988

I put my original 87 version of the cd in my collector edition box to give it a complete feel!

I sent a friend who's a policeman Abortion Papers yesterday. He said he loved it so much he was listening to it at the station today and played it to his colleagues who all thought it was amazing and didn't understand why it hadn't been released.

Ok, so I'm glad others hear the brilliance in this track. Controversial, yeah, but it would have been so amazing! I find it so even in this form. It's my fav. I love the beat, the melody, the feeling in "what about love?", his ad libs (hee hee he he heee) at the end, just overall wowwww. Although, as Joe Vogel said, it's kinda weird to get down to a song about abortion, lol. As a release... do you mean now or back then? Yeah, it would have been great on Bad. Too bad albums back then had such tight space available, unlike later with CD' s. If they meant to release now...hmmm, only if it was made clear it was an unfinished, unpolished demo from the 80's, then I could handle it. Like not how the song "TII" was handled, like it was something brand new.

Personally, I have thoroughly enjoyed (make that enJOYed) hearing these songs. I adore glimpses into his creative process and learning more about what poured out of this man who I'm forever in love with. Just hearing his ideas is infinitely precious. Is it bliss to hear his voice on something new? Yes. But I'm also keeping it in perspective. They're not finished songs, so why should we expect them to sound like they are? None beat Smooth Criminal, sorry, lolol! At this point, each UN-MESSED-WITH demo is a treasure to take to your heart and cherish, imo.

Well, anyway, Abortion Papers is frickin' awesome, I agree.

Some of those weren't considered for bad, they were just recorded around that time. They're probably being saved for the next compilation album.

Yep. In the booklet of Bad 25, it states additional mixes were created into 1988.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Despite the video quality not being top notch, Michael's performance was ELECTRIFYING. It really is the best performance I have seen from this tour. I hope they find the film reels of the show that would be simply amazing.

Re: BAD 25: The Original BAD Tracks CD 1 [Discussion]

No, at least it isn't on mine. I'm disappointed. I think they should have included it not isolated it onto a single version.

Is IJCSLY intro on the bad 25 CD?

Re: BAD 25: The Original BAD Tracks CD 1 [Discussion]

The remixed (remastered?) version of the album was actually released far earlier than the 2001 Special Edition, It had to have been early to mid 1990's at least. I have a non SE copy from the mid 90's as well as a copy of Off The Wall with the "glowing socks" cover, which also appeared earlier than 2001. I received these for Christmas of 1997 along with my first ever stereo system when I was 8.

I have never been able to place exactly when the Bad album alterations took place, but I always figured it had to be sometime before HIStory came out, since Disc 1 of that album features the same mixes.

Bad is my favorite MJ album so I have taken it upon myself to document the different versions whenever I come across them since there doesn't seem to be any official documentation on this. So far I have physical CD copies of the following:

1st Pressing (1987) - Contains the exact same mixes of every song as on the vinyl LP, with Leave Me Alone included as a bonus track.

2nd Pressing (Unknown year) - Exactly the same mixes as the above copy, but no spoken intro on IJCSLY.

3rd Pressing (Unknown Year) - This edition was purchased in the 90's, it features the same mixes of Bad, TWYMMF, IJCSLY, Dirty Diana, and Smooth Criminal that are on the 2001 Special Edition.

4th Pressing (2001 Special Edition) - This edition features the same mixes as the 90's pressing with remastered sound and bonus tracks.

what is the cataloge number of the 2nd pressing of bad

your opinion of Michael making a terrible decision is your opinion. i wish people would clarify that they are expressing an opinion. i loved The Girl iS Mine 2008. and i am not an impatient fan. i would be happy if Sony did nothing. Michael assured his legacy. i am not a once a year person..and never was.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

I was looking through the Wembley booklet and they had a pic of MJ performing TWYMMF in the white shirt. It looked pretty dope since its not the normal blue shirt. Its under the December/Tokyo shows. Can it be from the Tokyo shows or It can be any show ?

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

It can be any show, really. I mean, there were 123 shows, and theres only X amount that were broadcast in some form on TV.
For sure the last L.A. show, but really, he could have worn a white shirt for TWYMMF for the 40th show for all we know.

Hi! I looove the dvd!!!!
I have one question only: What song does Greg Phillinganes play in his solo? I think it was a big hit in the 80´s.....

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! This concert, what can I say? Michael Jackson in his element. He testified! Thank you!

Re: BAD 25 Demo's unreleased, unheard Studio songs Discussion [previews added]

I got the set in the mail a few days ago and listened to (and watched) it today with a good friend/fellow hardcore fan. I did not listen to any snippets beforehand and am glad I didn't. I had an incredible evening, one that I will remember for quite some time. The unreleased demos were better than I expected them to be. I liked the Price of Fame and Free, loved I'm So Blue and Al Capone. The latter was very different from what I thought it would be (in a positive way), it's so funky and relentless. The production on the songs is very 80ish (naturally, more so than the tracks that were eventually finished and released), but that did not detract me too much. I also really enjoyed hearing some similarities to other works, it's great to get an insight into MJ's creative process and how the songs we all love evolved and came to be.

What comes to mind now: I'm So Blue has a bit of a Jacksons vibe (Good TImes, Bless His Soul and Destiny came to mind) and the chorus of Free reminds me a bit of World of Sunshine. Free also reminds me of Fly Away and the lead up to the chorus is very similar to Elizabeth I Love You. The part before the chorus of the Price of Fame ("father always told me..") brought to mind Who Is It. All in all a few great songs to add to the collection.

And I'm really happy and thankful that the Estate gave them to us in raw and unedited form.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

I watched it today and am still amazed by what I saw. No, the picture quality is not perfect, but given the excellent sound quality that really did not bother me. I was totally into the show. For me, it totally lived up to the hype. MJ was so incredibly energetic, even more so than usual. That performance of Beat It was by far the best I ever saw. And Man in the Mirror is really special. I really got into the performance as it progressed - absolutely breathtaking.

To me, this is really MJ at his greatest. After all these years, it is still hard to believe I have actually watched a full second leg Bad Tour show, and the elusive July 16 Wembley show at that. I am thankful to the Estate for this release. And most of all I am thankful to Michael. He truly was one of a kind.

Re: BAD 25 Demo's unreleased, unheard Studio songs Discussion [previews added]

I finally listened to them all and I really enjoyed them to be honest. I can only imagine if Michael had finished these songs the way he wanted or felt good enough to him how it would have been. Then I imagine if one of these had been on the Bad album. I think it's great. Maybe there might be an 80s feel to some of them but I think if Michael was here today he would be able to make it relevant to the times now. I might be in the minority thinking that but I just feel that way because I cansee people relating to these songs even now.

P.S. I loved hearing Michael sing in different languages. It gave me goosebumps lol.

I don't have it yet, but based on people's comments he played Layla by Eric Clapton and Sussudio by Phil Collins. According to Greg in the current issue of Vibe magazine they played music by artists about whom they heard they were in the audience, as a homage. They actually played a Prince song too, but they had to cut it out as Prince did not give permission. (Kind of odd when you consider Prince plays Don't Stop Til You Get Enough in his concerts...)

Imagine those conversations…
Greg: Crazy. But the craziest thing is at the Wembley shows I personally set out to make a statement. During the band solos I would play tunes from artists that I would find out were in the audience. So I had heard Prince was at the show. So I did a whole separate section of “It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night” by Prince. I’m talking about the groove, the breakdown and everything! We stepped down to the front of the stage and got the audience to clap on the four. We wore that shit out [laughs]. And I still don’t know if Prince was really in the audience. But the bad news is that session will not be included in this DVD because Prince decided not to give us the rights. And I wish he would change his mind.

Jon: And you know what, it was just an homage to him.

Greg: And that’s the irony…

im in awe...like really. performance was fucking amazing! rock with you was pure bliss.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Working Day and Night from this one is great, but July 23 the illusion is more amazing because he is still yelling while the curtain is being lifted!

There is one questionable thing about the so-called July 23 amateur tape. Birchey claimed that he changed his outfit for the last part of MITM which seems hard to believe...

LA isn't that good tbh his voice was not its best.

Re: BAD 25: The Original BAD Tracks CD 1 [Discussion]

If that's the number on the spine, then it's EK40600.

I actually have 2 pressings with this number, the earlier one (probably from the late 80's) has the intro for IJCSLY cut out but features the original mixes for everything else (Horns in Bad, lower vocals in TWYMMF, Breathing in Smooth Criminal, ect). The later one I have from the 90's with the same number features all of the track revisions that are present on current editions of the album.

For some reason I enjoy watching WDAN on my TV but not when I play the show on my PC lol...I guess cause it just looks better and more enjoyable on big screen.

BTW, do you still have contact with Birchey?
