The Bad Tour Wembley concert vs the concerts in Dangerous Tour and HIStory Tour

Madonna does lip-synching too.

madonna does lipsync, but like 10-20% of the concert. she only sounded consistently good on her 2001, 2004 and 2006 tours (that voice training helped). her 'crow' voice was apparent in 2008-09 (compare 'music' from 2001, 2004, 2006 to 2008-2009 whose vocals were AWFUL). and now on her current tour, especially during uptempo songs ('human nature' live eugh!). maybe madonna can no longer sing live?

HIStory Tour:
I am f***ing perplexed as to why he would sing WBSS live, when it was THE hardest song to sing live in the entire set list. That's just stupid.[/B]

No it isn't.

Scream, They Don't Care About Us, Smooth Criminal, Blood On The Dance Floor and Earth Song are much harder to sing than Wanna Be Startin Somethin.

Michael always performed Wanna Be with live vocals because the CD version vocals have high pitch and is very hard to sing. It just doesn't fit and doesn't sound good to use playback with that song. He tried to sing the song in original tone on the first concerts of the Dangerous Tour, but you could hear he struggled, so he lowered it after a few concerts. Wanna Be is just a song that has that live edge to it, so naturally he would have to sing it live.

Personally i don't like very much History Concert. I think Michael was tired on that tour. The energy was not there !!!

Yeah but that doesn't explain why he mimed Off The Wall Medley.

Hate is a very strong word. I agree that History as an overall show lacked the intensity and energy of the previous tousr but this was a MJ Tour after all. It had the best dancing of any tour, great cinematic visuals and great stage outfits.

The popping and locking in Stranger In Moscow and Billie Jean, the end adlibs for YANA and HTW, the performance of Earth Song, Im even gonna add The Off The Wall Medley as high point even though it was lipsynched.

Overall the tour is not at all what you make it out to be.

I feel like I've got to defend the HIStory world tour too even if it pales in comparison to the Bad and Dangerous tours. I only saw Michael perform live once, and that was during the second leg of the HIStory tour. As my 12-year-old self stood in the audience staring at Michael dancing, I couldn't have cared less whether he sang live or not because the energy Michael put into every performance on the show just blew me away. I loved the intensity of Earth Song and the long dance sequence at the end of Billie Jean. So even if the HIStory tour was not Michael at his best, it still managed to turn me and a large number of other people into lifelong fans. Objectively, I wholeheartedly agree that the Dangerous and Bad tours are better than HIStory in terms of overall energy and singing, but still I'd rather take another HIStory concert over any artist out there nowadays, no matter if they're singing their set list live or not.

Well 96 leg didnt lack on energy to me. Only in seoul he was little not on spot. Bucharest Kuala lupur Manila Auckland are all great.

I'm surprised he didn't re-record WBSS and Motown Medley specifically for the tour to lip-synch so he didn't have to sing it live, tbh.

Yeah but that doesn't explain why he mimed Off The Wall Medley.

Terribly disappointed he lip synched that one too.

ALSO, if people wanna say "he's dancing too much to sound good", then why lip synch something like YOU ARE NOT ALONE or EARTH SONG.
My favorite parts is where he comes in live at the end. Would love to see rehearsal footage, because he probably sang it live only in rehearsals.

Also, should have done a north american leg outside of Hawaii. Even if it was just a few big cities.

Earth Song is extreamly hard to sing. When Michael was recording the HIStory album Earth Song had to be the very last song he recorded cause he said it would blow out his voice.

Where did you read/hear that? :)

Maybe not the whole song but ending is definitely extreamly voice backbreaking.

Oh, and forget Michael for a sec.
When the backup singers are lip synching, it's not a good look.
There's no reason the band couldn't have been playing along to a track with Michaels main vocals on it and his backup vocals removed.
Seeing them mime his backup vocals on, for example, Stranger In Moscow is just lolzy.

I understand that everybody has got their preferences but there is no need to slate the History Tour. I saw Michael on all 3 tours and it was amazing. During BTW I was too young to appreciate everything, I was only a child but I remember Michael's energy, how gorgeous he was and how loud it was :D (my Dad made me wear ear defenders *lol*). The DTW is very special to me, that's when I seriously considered marrying Michael :D . I always thought that Dangerous was better than Bad. His dancing was much better, the show and set list as well. Michael was gorgeous and super hot! When the History Tour was announced I was over the moon because every time Michael was on tour, people said it would be his last (they said that during BTW so I vowed that I would never ever miss a single tour). I was a young teenager and I thought Michael had become even more gorgeous

I never noticed the lip synching. When you watch a concert on TV it's never the same as live! Do you really think I stood there in the crowd counting his steps or analysing whether his lips moved in sync to the music? No. I was screaming my heart out and I was having the best time of my life. Michael was a showman, he wanted to give his fans an amazing show. This wasn't one of those unplugged concerts we used to see in the 90s with small crowds and the artist sitting on a stool on stage with a guitar in his hands. (Do they still do this nowadays?) Michael liked doing things big, the whole shebang.
He always tried to top himself, to be better than the rest and to give his fans a fantastic show. I don't know if you dissect other stars' tour meticulously and check if they perform every night with the same energy and strength for almost 2 years. Michael said himself that he went through hell when he was on tour. During HTW he was still the same Michael, he was still performing even when he didn't feel well. That tank on stage was bloody amazing! Don't think I have ever seen anything like that before. Michael sent out a strong message.

About the gold pants or any costumes: Michael always tried new things. The belts and buckles, the leotard and the gold pants are unforgettable! :cheeky: And I am pretty sure Michael would have had a completely different new look during TII. We all know what plans Michael had for those shows, and they were big, just like Michael liked it. People remember the show, not really the vocals. There are numerous examples for that. Moreover, we know that Michael can sing live. Look at Motown 25, that was lip synched, but no one gave a damn, it still made a huge impact and has gone down in history as one of the most memorable performances ever.
If you take the whole dancing and heavy choreography into consideration and the whole show around it (explosions etc.) it's really not surprising that he had to lip synch, you have to be realistic and can't expect powerful vocals for the whole show. Dancing like that is equivalent to a highly trained athlete, so it irks me when any of MJ's concerts is slated. We also have to be honest, would you want to sing off key because of laryngitis and disappoint your fans? We all know how Michael was and how he always wanted everything to be perfect. But he was only human. Besides, this is nothing unusual. No artist likes to admit it, but everybody uses some kind of help during live performances in case their voice is not perfect (even Pavarotti did it!).

My favourite tour is the Dangerous World Tour. It is not just his dancing or singing, it's just the feeling I had back in those days. I get nostalgic every time I think back of the Dangerous era. I think all of Michael's tours prove what an amazing showman and entertainer he was. To me, every concert I saw live was absolutely magical and unforgettable.

Michael had never been full of energy than he was during the Bad 25. Easily his best tour when it comes to vocals, live band and dance. That's all you really want from a live performance. The lighting, costumes and set might have been better on the Dangerous and History tour but they are of no value without live vocals and non-stop dancing.

I´ve been to all 3 of them. And I loved every single thing on all 3. I couldn´t talk down anything. It´s Michael.. and it´s always Michael only, I don´t care if he didn´t sing live or not, he was amazing every time, even when he was sick or in some kind of pain.

Yes 96 was probably more energetic, 97 had better sound and lighting in my opinion though. I'd really like to see a pro version of Cologne 97, he looks energetic and on top form in that show and its got a fairly full setlist (TWYMMF, Off The Wall medley, BOTDF)

He danced better after the Bad Tour.

I wonder if Michael would have lip synced Billie Jean in 2009

That's one great mystery that none of us will ever know. One things for sure though Wanna Be Startin Somethin, Human Nature, Jackson 5 Medley and I Just Can't Stop Loving You definatly would have been sung live for This Is It. So that right there shows that This Is It would have had more live vocals than the HIStory Tour

Not a fan of the HIStory tour, Bad & Dangerous are light years away from the HIStory tour, MJ lip synched what, 90% of them concerts? In my money you pay money to see musicians sing on stage. I know MJ isn't your everyday type of artist, but I try and avoid watching anything from the HIStory tours, he just seemed to go through the motions of the footage that I have seen and he doesn't look like he's enjoying one second of being on stage in that period. ( I'm sorry if that offends people who love them, but it's just not for me).

Bad Tour his singing was beautiful and his dancing was brilliant, but he had polished his dancing ten fold by the time the Dangerous tour rolled around, truly at the top of his game then.

In my opinion:

BAD Tour:
-best dancing.
-best singing (90%) live
-costume changes were cool

Dangerous Tour:
-great dancing
-didn't really like the costumes ( a white thriller jacket)
-ok singing

HIStory Tour:
-ok costumes
-slower heavier MJ
-WAY too much lip-syncing
-BEST dancing.

BAD Tour wins by a landslide

For me the most frustrating part about the HIStory Tour is the fact that the Munich show is the only show avaliable in HD and that was the weakest performance of the whole tour. An HD performance of Brunei, Kuala Lumper or Copenhagen would be great

Another thing.
MJ's live vocals/adlib at the Royal concert (WHAT ABOUT IT????) was soo good. It pissed me off because I would have loved to hear him sing the whole song live. But all we get is the bit at the end...

Well, that's the only one that was BROADCAST in HD.
There probably were were more.
Hell, they all might have been shot in HD. But that might have bene the only one broadcast in HD.

I heard only Munich concerts were shot in HD and they used more cameras than usual. Other concerts look like normal Jumbotron footage.

BAD Tour wins for me because of the live vocals.

I have always wondered how much would be live in This Is It - actually I think a lot would have been sung live.

I may be wrong here but i do remember someone from the This Is It crew saying that Michael wanted to sing as much as possible for This Is It.

Mike is like wine he got better with time. His dancing on the bad tour was great as far as agility and some great improvised moves, however compared to later tours/performances his dancing was just good. The tour overall was great but if we want to look at the shows as a whole and not focus on one aspect (singing or dancing or costumes), then the BAD tour is definitely not number one. Overall the dangerous tour is his best. The production was great, the lighting was great, the setlist flowed, his dancing was just breathtaking, his vocals were good not the best during human nature due to the previous song but still great when it came time for his "whyyyyyy oh whyyys",just overall the tour was his best. Now if you break down the different aspects of touring then we can debate

Couldn't have said it any better

I think Bad Tour is much better than other tours. I liked the production, lighting, costumes, more and he singed almost all songs live. Michael had more energy and he seemed happiest on Bad Tour. I like other tours too but they couldn't capture the Bad Tour's magic. Bad Tour's music also sounded much better than Dangerous Tour's if you compare. Bucharest dvd doesn't sound really good. Bad Tour's music sounds amazing in every video. :) I hope we get to see the filmed concerts in near future.
