Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

A Place With No Name has not leaked in full. We have a tiny snippet. So that is new to me. I never listened to the Tricky Stewart abortion of Slave To The Rhythm nor have we heard the original version so that is new to me. We have never heard the original version of DYKWYCA... new. Chicago... new. She was Loving Me... new. That's 5 out of 8 and the others are also very welcomed by me.

APWNN has leaked in full months ago.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Now that I think about it, I would love for this to be an April fools joke. Only one person from the listening party has said anything so far and he could be intentionally misleading us. He hasn't given any definitive information this far as far as how songs sound. God I hope this is the case.

I think it's been told more than once that the Estate has material for 1 maybe 2 new albums but not more than that. That means less than 20 finished releasable songs.

Not true. There is more than enough proof that there are between fifty and eighty songs complete enough to be reworked and released. Ask Joe Vogel, Teddy Riley, anyone. There's no excuse.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Did you listen to them? Exactly.

Regardless of what we're arguing about, it's no doubt that this is a wasted opportunity. A CD can hold 78 minutes of material and the estate decided to include eight songs. Given that Michael has dozens of songs that could be released right now, they could have/should have given more. At least ten or eleven songs.

I acknowledge that I shouldn't have listened to leaks. But does that mean they deserve to make up an entire album? No. This is not being nitpicky. This is just laziness.

I've been watching this all unfold and I told myself I was not going to give in, but alas, here I am.

AlwaysThere, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you are certainly no different. You have already listened to the songs so, in your opinion, this is a wasted opportunity. And it seems to me like you are trying to convince others of this as well. Personally, I do not see this as a wasted opportunity. I have not heard these songs before, so my viewpoint is 180 degrees from where yours is. I am very much looking forward to this album. I want to hear new material too, and I know the leaks are out there, but I will not listen to them. I would say "I will not give in to temptation", but I'm really not even tempted to go looking for them. Leaks are illegal and I will not support them. I would much prefer to listen to the album versions- or should I say, Michael's versions on the deluxe edition.

But you have listened to them, and based on that, you have formed an opinion of this album. Great. Wonderful. Whatever. It is your opinion yours alone.

My question is, though, you claim that this is "just laziness". What did you expect? Was the Estate supposed to call you and ask you what you've heard and what you think should be on the album? And as for the leaks, had they never been leaked in the first place (or had you not listened to them), would you think differently about this album?

I don't mean to sound like I'm ganging up on you because I'm not, I just wanted a chance to share what's on my mind.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I don't get all the negativity - shouldn't fans be getting behind this album?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

APWNN did leak in full a few months back.

I must have missed it. I'm not on the fan boards as much as I used to be because they more often than not just frustrate the hell out of me. Still... new to me :). And the 4 others are no doubt new to everyone.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

And however much I dislike tampering with Michael's work, let's admit it, L.A. Reid seems like a much saner person and more in touch with music reality than that previous guy at Sony who included 3 fake atrocious songs on the album and raved that they sounded fantastic. So maybe this album finally has a chance with the general public. I just hope that enough people will buy the deluxe edition. And discover those demos now, not in 5 years as they did with the Beat It demo.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Regarding the 17th track, it might not be an actual song, but rather something similar to the Vincent Price exceprt from Thriller 25. Basically, a short voice-over segment that separates the new mixes from the old.

Yeah you know what seemed a bit sketchy the part where they said they combed through michaels entire catalouge but ended up choosing most of the songs that was omitted from MICHAEL.

Nevertheless, Give this a second thought. I know the cloud of dissapointment is probably big for you but take a moment to reflect on this. Don't listen to any of the tracks anymore and perhaps you may change your mind down the line as we get closer to the release date, it is after all new mixes that adds completly new elements in the song. I hope you change your mind so you can share the joy with the rest of us if not i personally understand and respect that :)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I've been watching this all unfold and I told myself I was not going to give in, but alas, here I am.

I won't quote the whole post so I won't take up more space but I did read the entire thing. Firstly I would like to thank you for keeping a cool head and not going off on me.

As a whole, though, I do have to say that the estate has to be aware that when a song leaks fans are prone to listen to it. Very few fans don't. To that end, they should have supplied equal opportunity for fans who haven't heard leaks/the general public as well as fans who have. Four leaked songs and four unleaked would have been just fine. Of course some fans are more open to the idea of releasing leaked material but my personal feeling is that you buy an album to hear new music. Not leaks.

I'm still not 100% sold on this. But then again, I'm a bit under the weather today and I'm prone to outbursts when I'm sick. So maybe I'm just being a big baby :p

I appreciate that :) I'll try. It all depends on how the songs are treated I guess. But at the end of the day I'm not going to lie, I do wish we had more new music.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Let's just remember MJ signed of on Fergie doing Beat It on the 25th anniversary of the worlds biggest album.

Let THAT sink in.....

Now we have perspective again. Lol.

Look in some ways post humous songs are always gonna suck but it's ALL we have. So ride it and enjoy it - you might even like it! What I'm trying to say is nothing is perfect, even if he was alive I've seen fans complain.

Big scheme of things is that we have record execs running the show now and they signed the biggest recording deal in history with a dead man so they have got a financial interest in making this work as best they can.

Overall, I'm very happy and guess what, it appears they actually listened to the fans this time with original demos etc. there is even 2 videos, could be a making of or footage of Michael? C'mon that's pretty awesome.

While I'm at it - it actually makes good business sense to"deal with the leaks" now and keep what they have up their sleeve. We all can understand that right? It's just good business practice? Protecting the asset?

It's not rocket science here guys.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

From the preorder it looks like you can only buy the album as a whole. It's a shame, I really don't feel like endorsing Timbaland's remixes.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Can't believe how this thread went from anticipation and excitement to people being disappointed but we haven't actually heard the album yet, so I am going to wait til then. I will be happy to buy this and play it and hopefully love it. No problem.

I do agree that the cover is not all that I would have wanted. But --hey--it's just the cover and the most important thing is the music, right? About the Michael cover, I actually liked it and all the references to his career. As far as this cover, it is in the "Afrofuturism" mode, which is hot right now, but I would have preferred a more down to earth cover showing MJ as more a true Earthling and not a space voyager, but that's just me. This cover reminds me somewhat of the Arno Bani photos.

I am a bit worried about the reaction of the general public and the 'less connected to the blogs' fans b/c I want to see MJ's legacy respected and given all the kudos he deserves--also with the 5th anniversary coming up, it's time to celebrate his life and all he gave us.

You're welcome. I figure you're getting enough sh*t from others, who am I to add to that? You are simply voicing your opinion. I do not agree with it, but I do see where you are coming from, and I respect your right to have that opinion.

That being said... when were these songs leaked? Was it just recently (say, within the last year)? It's possible that the songs had already been chosen and, leaked or not, they just had to go with them. If Escape had leaked, for example, and they already had everything planned and they knew they were going to name the album Xscape... it's not like they can just say "Well now let's ditch it for something else because it's no longer 'new' material." Money and time had already been spent so they just may not have had a choice in the matter.

As for doing a mix, like you suggested, of 4 leaked vs 4 unleaked... at one point, many of these songs were unleaked. And who's to say the other unleaked songs couldn't have become leaked? Then you're back in the same boat. (I hope that made sense, I swear I have never used that word so much in my life ).

You can only buy individual songs once they become available (i.e. when the singles are released) or once the album is released. You cant pre-order individual songs.

It's almost certain you'll be able to buy the demos individually once the album comes out (even if the corresponding song is released as a single early on, I don't see the demos being released until the album comes out). They let you buy the 6 songs on Bad 25 individually, which was the main attraction of that album.

What's up with some people? So what if the track list (which isn't released yet) contains all songs we've heard before?

Well, it's about time those songs get their spot on an official release! They need to be heard by the mainstream public! Every one of them is strong.

Thank you estate for this. This time you did it right.

And fans.. Please don't spoil this ? JUST WAIT FOR THE ALBUM's release!

Don't judge a man (or album) until you walked two moons in his moccasins.

Good morning by the way! :D

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

^ well to be fair many of us knew thay would be the stages fans would take...

Well im freaking stoked still!!!! I know I can't be the only one

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Some people are just never happy. You are mad some leaked UNRELEASED songs are on an album where they are giving us what we asked for, the demos + reworked songs? That's YOUR problem for listening to the leaked songs in the first place! Some of the comments I've seen in various places make me want to bang my head against a wall, absolutely ridiculous!

I'm very excited about this project, pre-ordered my iTunes copy already!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

im also extrememly happy!! Even better that the album comes out only about a week and a half bofore my son is due :) :)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Guys and gals, Listen.. Just buy the new album! Don't sit and pout over who produces what on these albums, At least we are getting to hear something rather than NOTHING AT ALL so be thankful!

Besides, Your getting the untouched demos so why is everyone becoming Debbie Downer of the situation?

ENJOY THIS EXPERIENCE! I don't think There is very much completed songs left to release!

UGH..I'm surprised by the negativity! The deluxe version offers the demos.... UNTOUCHED songs as MJ left them! So what more do some want!? This ain't that other album, this is a new much more better this time around MJ post album! BE HAPPY, they listened this time, they learned their lesson! So I wish some could just move on already then! But, I see that the damaged was done forever it seems...cause since then some just wanna boycott and/or nitpick every damn thing because of it..way to keep MJs legacy alive! SMH

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

People who complain about leaked songs on the album remind me of spoiled children. Leaking songs is not an official release. It's illegal. So if you listened to them it's your fault, not the Estate's. I listened to them too, but I would never complain about them being on an album as it was MY choice, no one else's, to listen to them. Michael is not here and cannot create any more songs, that's the sad reality, so the Estate has a limited number of releasable songs. If some fans spoil even that by leaking them that's not the Estate's fault. This would never be a reason to me to not to buy an album or feel disappointed. I actually would feel it very unfair to not to buy it when I listened to them (basically illegally) when they were leaked. If you are someone who feels disappointed about this then maybe next time you should refuse to listen to leaked songs before official release.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

The leaked songs were gonna get released sooner or later. The estate doesn't know who personally downloads what songs. I'd rather get them out the way now so that the next release can have more songs that didn't leak. It was our personal choices to listen to the songs. The last few leaks (DIG, POTW, HT Demo etc) I downloaded but haven't listened to yet because I wasn't sure what was or wasn't going to make it into the new album. None the less I'm excited. Anything positive that deals with Michael I'm all for. Who knows maybe the demos they include may not be the ones that leaked. We just don't know yet. Let's not spoil this for others. If you get it you get it if you don't you don't. There could be a great documentary in the works with studio footage. Let's not forget Rodney Jerkins brother spoke of "tons of video footage from the Invincible sessions". That could also be included. Let's keep high spirits!!!!!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I hope the two videos will include some studio footage or just some unseen footage for a change. The videos for Michael were practically of no value and forgotten immediately. Let's face it, if there is no Michael in it, nobody will watch it twice.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

This album has a strange piece of cover art .. I think in line with something MJ would have done. It gets people talking ..

I love the way he seems to be emerging from another universe. He was otherworldly!

Honestly couldn't be happier with this.

You make a very good point. Love the cover or hate it, you are talking about it, so who's having the last laugh?

Initially, I didn't like the cover, and I still think they could have done better, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me. All I really focus on anyway is his eyes; the rest just disappears for me. (Believe it or not, aside from his smile, this is my favorite part of his body) ;)
