Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I have been meaning to make a video about it for like a month but am too Lazy, I just put one together to show difference, will upload it now.

I would love to hear it too. You are the one that remixed HT correct? if you are, you did an amazing job!! Love it.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Brilliant idea. Someone should send this to xony.

The member who had the idea can repost it in the message to Estate thread. I thought it was good like the FB idea.

In reply to some member saying on the release schedule Michael wanted it was to be a new single every month he was doing This Is It! he then would release the album as a whole collection. With obviously unreleased tracks also.

Thank you! Take note Estate/Sony.

The real reason for most boycotts is the hate towards Sony and/or Estate.

The Midwestcowboy, in my view you will not get the answers you seek on an online forum. There are fans who are not interested in this release and it has nothing to do with Estate/Sony. I have spoken to some personally. While Ivy's response is valid, it characterizes a group that is online that most are aware of and summarizes their views. They do not represent most who are not interested in the release, they only represent themselves and those who support that view.

Qbee, thank you for the information about charts and versions. Do you know where MJ.com sales chart?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

A Place Without No Name is an AMAZING song! Listening to it now, really is gonna complete this album! Can't wait :D

Can you pls describe it to me? Does it have the feel of TWYMMF?

Not at all.....maybe something along the lines of Heartbreak Hotel ?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I have a feeling they turned APWNN into a very different structure. No longer the same guitar instrumental as "A horse with no name" but something along the lines of TWYMMF. Could explain all the reviews as some only made the link to A horse with no name with the end part of the song.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Yes, this is something very important. Please Qbee ask your source. Many fans buy new releases on michaeljackson.com. And I remember a discussion from one of the previous releases.. The question is are michaeljackson.com sales counted on Billboard chart. Because if they're not nobody should be buying it there.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I've come across a little section of the fanbase (Mainly on facebook) that plans on "boycotting" the album. If there are anyone in here i am sincerely curious about your decision and contention behind it. Some say it is because Michael would have never authorized this release and it is desecrating his artistry. So that's it? You don't want anymore songs released and just let them all dust in a vault? Besides, do the same people listen to leaks when they leak? Surely Michael would have never approved of that.

The other argument is that they're not buying a album of remixes that lacks Michael's original vision. But there is a 2nd CD with original mixes? I don't understand that reasoning at all.

If anyone feels like that please speak up, i won't castigate you, I just want to hear you out because most of it sounds like oxymoron's.

I don't understand these people. Michael wasn't stupid. If he didn't want his music to continue to be heard after he was gone, he could have easily put that in his will. And he didn't. He knew full well that artists, such as himself, continue to have posthumous work put out after they are gone.

So, all these people who are so sure that Michael didn't want more of his work to be heard after they are gone need to ask themselves this. Michael could have put that in his will, because it was his life's work, afterall. But, he never forbid any of it not to be released.

I think these people are just trying to be defiant.:big_boss:

Spike Lee's documentary was exclusively on MJ.com. I do not remember it on any dvd sales charts unless of course the sales were extremely low.

Actually Michael is a cautionary tale for artists like Prince and Stevie Wonder who have a number of songs in vaults. They may have learned from Michael what can happen to their art if they do not make those decisions for themselves.

We do not know if Michael made that decision for himself or not. We only know he wanted to burn his music instead of giving it to Sony. Before anyone becomes outraged by that, Michael also wanted to rid himself of the Thriller short film before cooler heads prevailed. We simply do not know what Michael would have done. We can only hope the best is being done now.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Up until now this is the best news for me:

"For the ultimate fan experience, XSCAPE will also be available in a Deluxe Edition, which includes all of the sourced Michael Jackson recordings in their original form".

And of course I'm also curious what the various producers found necessary to change.

It's interesting to put the tracks side to side to see what was altered, but that's it for me as far as the different producer's work is concerned.

I know I'm only gonna listen to Michael's original work only after that

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

just for fyi - Midwestcowboy was asking about a group of fans that are online on facebook and is boycotting the album. So you are correct that my description was explaining the online group - which was who Midwestcowboy asked about to start with.

Also I would think people who aren't interested in the album (the second group you mentioned) to be significantly different from a group who actively boycotting the album.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Yes, that is true. But you forgot to write in 2002.

I'm not to sure about arguments for either side but... you seem to be implying his feelings are exclusive to the year they are expressed.

I think the point is conditions change, feelings change, opinions change. Life isn't constant. Michael was expressing his anger to Sony / Mottola in 2002. No one can say for sure what his feelings would be 12 years later after Mottola had left Sony etc.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Have any of you discussed the new album with friends who are not massive fans of Michael? What are their feelings about it? Work colleagues are looking forward to hearing it and even the haters I work with admit that they are intrigued what it will sound like. Not had any really negative comments.

My friends are ecstatic. They're going to go to the record store with me to purchase the physical copies...for emotional support.

LOL

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

That Prince cover is amazing.

If anyone feels like that please speak up, i won't castigate you, I just want to hear you out because most of it sounds like oxymoron's.

Ivy, can I assume you do not feel that way? Maybe someone that feels that way is also a member here and will courageously respond. Until that time, your post and mine are valid.

Dilan, Michael's handwritten notes did not include Sony as a recording label he would work with as per evidence in the AEG civil trial. We can all take what we will from that.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

As soon as it was announced, at least six people texted me about it to make sure I was up to date, lol. They're all casual fans (though one of my best friends lies somewhere between massive and casual) but they all said that they'll be checking it out when its released.

lmao! Isn't that funny when your non-fan friends make sure you know about it? As if you wouldn't be all over that sh***t!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

:hiya:

It's slightly off topic, but I thought that this was the appropriate place to share this highly important news.

Today I witnessed something amazing. I saw an overcrowded bus of 3 passenger in it which stopped right next to me. Five people got off it, and -2 stayed in it. On the next stop 2 people got on the very same bus and as soon as they got on it, there were zero passangers in it (including themselves).

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Is the bonus track going to be in the original form or it's a new produced version ?

Interesting tweet from yesterday.

I think its useful to note that Michael himself had once used a deceased artist's vocals over his music. You have people arguing that since he is not here to approve it, it shouldn't be released. The track 'Unbreakable' causes me to question whether he would've believed that.

Imagine if they stopped creating Disney films because they didn't have the permission of Walt himself? If they stopped reworking Mickey because the originators didn't have the final say? The world would be different.

I think Michael was very smart. As someone who owned the music of dead artists, I believe he knew the business of that industry.

New version. A duet with Mary J Blige & D'Angelo. Produced by D'Angelo.

the rap verse was taken from an old song of notorious BIG (released one).
just saying.

And? Its still altering the original without the permission of the artist.

I suppose it'll the new version. Maybe the Japanese release will get the original untouched version as a Japan-exclusive bonus track.

And that very same bonus track will be probably sung in Japanese...

Biggies rap was just sampled. Sampling isn't an unusual method in music business.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Michaels short films pushed the bounarys of creativity and technology. The Estate should approach their short films in the same way IMO

I personally would love to see them do one of the short films in anime style. Would be so awesome. :wild:

As for people being upset about Michael's stuff coming out when he's not here, I can understand them being upset. They're protective of him, his legacy, and his wishes. However, if he's not here to do anything about it, there's not much that can be done. If an artist dies and has songs leftover, they will be released if the interest is there. It happened with Elvis, 2Pac, and Jimi Hendrix, so it was bound to happen to Michael.

Besides, I believe Michael left a note once that kinda talks about this sort of thing:
