Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

what makes you so sure this album will be leaked. if they don't had tapes to untrusted people and they are careful the album will come out on release day wont it?

Many shops get the CDs days, sometimes even a week, in advance of the release date. All it takes is one employee to sneak out a copy, rip it and upload it. Boom, your album is leaked.

That's pretty much why every album released today is leaked in the few days before it's release.

USA Today review just came out:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/...en-michael-jackson-posthumous-xscape/7553229/

It's easy, and probably healthy, to approach any new release of Michael Jackson music with some skepticism. Nearly five years after his death, the King of Pop remains both an indelible influence on contemporary artists and a source of the kind of prurient and morose fascination that is always as marketable, if not as memorable, as a great tune.

Luckily, the posthumous Xscape, out May 13, offers some reminders of why Jackson entered our collective consciousness to begin with. The eight tracks here showcase songs, culled from the late superstar's vault, originally recorded between 1983 and 1999, after Jackson's early creative peak as a recording artist (with his 1979 solo breakthrough Off the Wall and 1982's Thriller).

Still, executive producer L.A Reid and lead producer Timbaland — with support at the boards from other noted hitmakers such as Stargate, J-Roc and Rodney Jerkins — ensure that Jackson's enduring strengths as a singer are represented, layering in modern electronic textures without overwhelming the distinctly slinky, shivery vocals or overall structure of the tunes.

Love Never Felt So Good — written and initially produced by Jackson and Paul Anka, and co-produced here by John McClain, a co-executor of Jackson's estate, and Giorgio Tuinfort — has an old-school snap and tingle, with warm, leaping strings that recall the melodic and rhythmic punch of Jackson's work with Quincy Jones.
Loving You, crafted by Jackson during sessions for 1987's Bad and revisited here by Timbaland, is similarly blithe and nostalgic, with tinkling piano chords and tickling percussion set against the latter artist's trademark syncopation.

Other tracks are edgier and more aggressive, sonically and in their lyrics. For Jackson, love and anxiety were often inextricably entwined; Do You Know Where Your Children Are (also from the Bad era) documents a parent's nightmare with a thumping groove, while the chilly, Cory Rooney-penned Chicago finds its narrator vexed by a duplicitous woman.

On Slave to the Rhythm, an intriguing 1989 Reid/Babyface creation brought back by Timbaland and Jerome Harmon, it's the girl who suffers, as Jackson croons over a frantically chugging, swirling arrangement about a woman who tries to break the chains that bind her at home and work.

Slave is playful at first, opening with Jackson's trademark yelps and hiccups, but there is clear empathy in his portrait of a trapped person desperate to find "a beat of her own." It seems especially poignant here that for this star, escape, like Xscape, only came posthumously.

This is more towards Dilan, you're crazy if you believe for an instant that there isn't any chance of this album leaking. All of the albums today by major artists are leaked. If not all, I'd say most, but I won't go any lesser than that. "Michael" leaked in 2010, almost every album from every other major artists has leaked since then, odds are this album will leak to. It's an unfortunate reality with today's music and it's landscape.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

The USA Today article is a little misleading in it's suggestion that the material spans Off the Wall to Bad.

Though, on thinking about it, perhaps that makes it more appealing to an American audience.

They said the material is recorded until 1999.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Sadly I have a feeling that we will get no more official news until 28th April. However luckily so many of you are fantastic at finding unofficial info. Thanks to all of those on here who keep us updated.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Thanks.

So Giorgio Tuinfort co-produced Love Never Felt So Good with John McClain, and Timbaland handled Lovin' You. We still need to figure out which songs were assigned to Stargate.

Note: Tuinfort previously worked with Akon on Hold My Hand and Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I'm hoping that Amazon sends me the CD on the day it's available. I bulk ordered it with two other albums I want, and I hope it doesn't delay it getting to me.

They said the material is recorded until 1999.
true, it says recorded from 1983 to 1999. LNFSG was 1983 recorded while Xcsape&SWLM were 1999 recorded.

:bugeyed DYKWYCA is a bad era track?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

@qbee It's true that they used a vocoder in APWNN ?

What's your source? I think Stargate used a vocoder in their Jackson 5 - Skywriter remix. Maybe they also produced the new version of Place with No Name and added similar robotic effects?

Wasn't DYKWYCA first recorded in 1989/1990 or something? Even though it was meant for Dangerous, he was still in the Bad era when it was recorded so maybe that's what they meant?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Wikipedia:
"A song called "Chicago" is set to precede the album as the lead single from the project"

Is this true, qbee?

I am not Qbee, so I will not answer for her (although she has already said she will not divulge details and to just be patient), but that quote about Chicago being the first single is old. Yes, Timbaland said it, but that was way back last August. A lot can, and I'm sure has, changed in the last 8 months.

Just relax. Only 3 more weeks to go. Two if the rumours about a single release on the 6th are true.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Stargate probably did Dr. Freeze tracks just as I thought. I assumed Timbo did Lovin' You because one of the reviewers compared it with JT's 20/20 Experience.

Giorgio Tuinfort is a surprise.

DYKWYCA could be an Bad era track (although I still think it is from Dangerous). Only thing we know for sure is that is written before 1993 Mexico deposition.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

you'll give LNFSG a chance?

Of course. A lot of people here seems to misunderstood my concern about Love Never Felt So Good. I stated numerous times that I love the song, that I don't have the problem with it being on the album. My only concern was it being a lead single. Not because it is a bad song, not because I hate it, but because of it's demo state and incomplete lyrics (you can listen Johnny Mathis released version on youtube). That's why I said that it is not a good choice for a song that will represent the whole album. For the same reason I said I can't see the song have a success on the charts (regardless of how good the music sounds). I also said I'll buy the single so that can be considered as giving it a chance. I just hope other people (non fans) will give it a chance too because of the aforementioned reasons.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I hope everyone has had a good Easter.

I think we will get some news this Monday! - 1 week from today! :)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I somewhat agree.. I mean, D'Angelo?? (If true) how is he worthy enough to be on a song with MJ? (I do love "brown sugar" tho)
Erm, yes he is. And this is a bonus track. Would you prefer Bieber? Go listen to the original and you will see why multiple artists are featured.
