Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

This album is computerized right, nothing really wrong with that but it's just how music is produced these days - like Disney films are done on the computer unlike the old days when they were drawn on paper or in films a building blown up cgi-style rather than real explosives. BUT take an album like Dangerous or History was that a perfect balanced of computerized music, real instruments and even real world sounds such as car doors closing engine sounds etc. ?

Do music producers not find that perfect balance with real instruments and computerized sounds anymore ? I think that's whats missing in songs these days - on an album yes definitely have a song or 2 fully computerized with crazy sounds e.g Unbreakable Heartbreaker but also have songs of a pure nature with simple not over the top sounds just simple melodically music.
Xscape nearly gets the balance right but not quite. I guess that's just the way modern music is produced these days.

I suggest to the fans who don't like the new sound on Xscape to listen to songs such as Jump For Joy, Goin' Places etc. Case solved.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Proof: no melodyne or autotune was used on 'Chicago' ''smile'' sounds exactly the same on the original version! Will never get tired of this Record, a true Michael Jackson Classic.

From Twitter:

In Copenhagen people have been waiting in line in Fona (a danish music shop) to get a hold of Xscape and it's run out of Deluxe editions now

Posts like this are just completely unnecessary and not constructive at all. That would be like the more critical among us saying something like "Fans who like the new sound on Xscape should just listen to Timbaland's discography."

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Of course, nothing on Xscape comes close to Michael's guide to shaving classic, 'I'm starting with moustache in the mirror'.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

This is my humble opinion:

1. Love Never Felt So Good;

Remix: 9.5/10
Demo: 10/10

The reason i came up with these numbers is because, the new contemporized version is so clean and fresh... but the rawness/purity of the demo slightly edges it for me.

2. Chicago;

Remix: 10/10
Demo: 8.5/10

The remix done by Timbaland gives such an extra feel to the original version, helps it a lot. Demo is wonderful but lacks in depth.

3. Loving You;

Remix: 9/10
Demo: 10/10

Let's face it, the BAD Recording Sessions are divine. The remix does give it an extra feel, but the clarity/uniqueness put into the demo is incomparable.

4. A Place With No Name;

Remix: 8/10
Demo: 10/10

First time i heard the remix, it didn't really interest me much.. but now i own the album, it has started to grow on me slowly. The Demo is already perfect, Michael & Dr. Freeze got it RIGHT.

5. Slave To The Rhythm;

Remix: 10/10
Demo: 10/10

For Me this is definitely a tie, Michael's demo is gorgeous.. you can feel the heart put into it. The Remix is creative, uplifting and very well crafted. Well done TIMBO!

6. Do You Know;

Remix: 8/10
Demo: 10/10

Although i do enjoy the remix, nothing can come close to the original version created by Michael. Both are very, very good tracks though.

7. Blue Gangsta;

Remix: 10/10
Demo: 10/10

Another tie, Michael's original version is flawless/timeless. But the theme of the remix is just too exuberant to ignore.

8. Xscape;

Remix: 10/10
Demo: 10/10

Another tie, Both of Rodney's productions on this track are heavenly. Perfect ending to a beautifully pieced together album. Cherished within my collection :heart:

Just ordered the physical deluxe CD as well. Will be a good addition to my collection :)

@SoCav

But, in the few years I have been reading on this forum, it's always the same few posters criticising and picking holes in everything.

I don't know how they don't bore themselves, being so negative each and every day. God knows, they bore me ridgid.

If I was them, I would avoid MJ post 2009, and find something that I actually liked, which might make me happy.

Strange people.:bugeyed

Am I the only one who thinks DYKWYCA is THE BOMB?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

^^

Yes :p

I love that song when I first heard it... but this version with its weird videogame sound doesnt have the same effect on me. Id prefer the original version.

Hey Smooth. Well, I don't know if I am part of those posters you perceive to always be negative, but if so, you clearly have not seen my posts about the demos, the Bad 25 demos, Bad Tour Wembley, anything related to MJ songs, etc. I wish I could also like everything that was released after 2009, but I don't. Why am I still here? Because I love Michael Jackson. He's my favourite artist of all time and continues to inspire me. The Loving You and Slave demos did just that when I heard them yesterday. I enjoy discussing the man and his work with other fans and I also care and will continue to care about what's being done with his work now. I guess as fans we all feel strongly about this and because there are diverse opinions about what works and what doesn't, this can lead to some frustrations. In the end though, regardless of our opinions, we are all here for the same reason, because we are fans of MJ.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Sometimes I wonder if people are here for MJ or just to criticize either other fans or MJ's new releases. It is as if I went to another singer's forum and constantly spread negativity about his songs. I'd start question how much fan actually I am, and as SmoothMJ said, if some don't love post 2009 releases, well there are releases from before 2009.

Actually I noticed that fans started criticizing MJ even when he was alive. Throughout years and decades MJ was an innovator. He did songs such as 2000 Watts and SHOUT. I absolutely loved how he brought that sound alive, but when I read the reaction from some fans about such songs, I see the same negativity with the newly released Xscape's new versions.

All I am saying, if you are not happy with MJ's innovative process, then go back to J5 and Jump For Hoy era, they are also nice songs, just not contemporary. And it would be much better than coming here and throwing up on everything newly released.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

@SoCav

It's obvious to me though, I'm not suggesting you by the way, that some people have no intention of ever liking post 2009 MJ product - unless it is completely 'untouched'.

In those cases, their motives in commenting on 'new','updated', or 'contemporised' tracks are all to obvious.

When you see the same few posters tripping over themselves to deride and pick apart an album (sometimes after listening to only half a track!), then you don't have to be a genius to work out why.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Sigh...

Edit: that was in response to Bumper's post.

Smooth, well, I guess our perceptions differ then. I know there are some fans who are against posthumous releases period, but I don't see them commenting here frequently. I actually got the impression most people were willing to give this album a chance, even the more sceptical among us.
