"XSCAPE was released on the same day as They Keys' latest disc "True Blue", and both are currently duking it out for the top of the charts. Needless to say, they're pretty pissed that their shot at chart supremacy is being thwarted by the late King of Pop. "It's the classing story of Dan and I," said Patrick. "The one time we have the potential to have a number one record, Michael Jackson releases something from the grave and c-ckblocks us."

Just to hammer the point home, guitarist Dan Auerbach made an extra special stage announcement during the band's set in front of 40,000 people. "We have a new record out this week. I hope everyone went out and bought it, so we can beat Michael Jackson in the charts." We'll have to wait until Billboard publishes its latest issue next Wednesday to find out!"

This had me laughing :hysterical:

Such cry babies! Now MJ really needs to moonwalk all over their cocky behinds.

That is Actually pretty unproffesional. Tell me one artist that has ever been this obsessed with being #1 that they feel the urge to badmouth other artists. That just looks really desperate and pathetic.

It doesn't read well in the article but after watching the clip, the guys said that MJ 'cockblocked' them in a humorous way. Didn't come across as disrespectful to MJ, it felt like they were saying, 'hey, we wanted a number one hit album and everything was going well until Michael Jackson somehow manages to make an album and release it against us, how can we compete with Michael Jackson, this is just our luck'.

When you think about it, it's kind of a compliment.

It's almost like releasing a book and that book is doing really well and then JK decides to release another Harry Potter book at the same time.

No it was not a compliment in any way. It was an insult and a huge one. Let me remind you:

"[It's] some ****ing bullshit that sucks so bad that it took them three years after he died to make it listenable," he tells Rolling Stone's Patrick Doyle. "Like he had to be dead for three years for it to be released." He suspects it finally saw the light of day because "L.A. Reid needed a new boat."

And you are defending this guy? Really??

For a so-called indy band it's funny how much they want to top the pop charts.

Oh the irony of the people telling them to stop moaning. This forum is full of crying and bitching, if MJ got beaten by the 'black keys' it would be the other way round.

Only because MJ would be losing out to a couple of complete c***s though.:cheeky:

wait does that mean that Xscape finally debuted are number one?

They're a rock and roll band, like the Stones. I'd expect this kind of behavior from rock stars.

Michael is/was a pop artist, so he was in a different genre.

Not defending their childish behavior, but I've heard that they are pretty talented, so who cares? Coldplay have a new album out this week, though, and I don't hear Chris Martin (or the other 3 nice guys in the band) saying anything bad about Michael.

^^ Chris is class act to compare these guys.

The stupid one from Shit keys opened his mouth again:
Q: Album No. 8, and you’re arena-rock stars. Are you ready for the backlash that comes when a famous band opens up its sound a bit?
A: Right. The backlash, it was that Pitchfork review (5.8 out of 10), but it’s to be expected. I love music more than anything, and of course they’re going to give The Swans, a band I’ve been trying to listen to since I was 14, a better review than our record. And they probably need it, you know what I mean? I’m just glad we got a better review than the Michael Jackson record because Michael Jackson didn’t even make it [chuckles].

I think they're CLEARLY joking.......I'm sure if there was a video of this they'd be saying it with a smile on their faces. I thought as Michael Jackson fans we would recognise things like this? You can't just read a quote from someone and judge them from that quote without seeing their facial expressions and hearing the tone they are saying it in.

Come on guys, we are better than this.

Guys, I'm not sure we should take this so seriously. They are joking...

Agreed, I think sometimes as MJ fans we are TOO over protective. When it's not even necessary.

I'm thinking the same as Birchey and TehHolySpir1t. In a sense, the Black Keys are acknowledging Michael's power. To me, what they said sounds like "this brother's so powerful, he's not here anymore but still kicking asses like it's NNNOthing."

Ataaaaaa !!!!!!

Why do you defend them? This is how their whole tirade started:

"[It's] some f***ing bull***t that sucks so bad that it took them three years after he died to make it listenable," Carney told Rolling Stone.

Yeah, it sounds like a "joke".

That quote from the Rolling Stone is NOT a joke.

How anyone can pretend it is, is beyond me.

No, they are insulting Michael's music and body of work. MJ worked hard on those songs! He worked 10 years on A Place With No Name!!! He recorded his vocals for Slave To The Rhythm 24 times!!!

"[It's] some f***ing bull***t that sucks so bad that it took them three years after he died to make it listenable," Carney told Rolling Stone.

listenable??? f***ing bull***t??? sucks so bad???

Those original versions are better than anything that guy will ever write or record.

STOP DEFENDING THOSE HATERS!

It didn't even take them 3 years. The songs were all listenable when they originally leaked in demo form. Hell, STTR and DYKWYCA were both remixed within the year after Michael's death and both remixes were received well by fans and non-fans alike.

LA Reid approached Timbaland first in April 2013, so the Xscape project was really only underway for about a year.

Stupid asshole can't even get his facts right.

Well for starters I've only done it.....once.

As for it being annoying, sorry but you'll just have to deal with it and find it annoying, he was joking and you were all taking it too seriously. ;D I have however read further comments now in which they weren't joking. But still, it shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I'm glad there isn't a thumbs down button as well, if there was one and you used it on my post that would really ruin my day  Seriously, I wouldn't be able to sleep for weeks.

Yeah, it sounds like a "joke".

That wasn't in the original post. Easily missed.

It's still not that bad though for the record, much worse things have been said and I still think everyone is overreacting.
