Hi everyone,

I haven't visited this forum for a long time, I was very busy with some projects.

Some of you may know the Internet Archive, https://archive.org/, and the Wayback Machine, http://archive.org/web/ or http://web.archive.org/. I am now able to save websites in the Wayback Machine. This means that the websites that are saved there will NEVER be deleted, they will always be available in the wayback machine, even if the original website has died.

Because of some very big websites that have been taken down lately, like michaelpictures.net, I would like to begin this new project. You can all send me websites with pictures, news or information about Michael Jackson, individual pages or images are also welcome. If you have a lot of links to pictures or individual pages, please send them to me in a .txt file. If you have websites of Michael Jackson that need to be saved forever, please post them here below. Please keep the rules of the forum in mind when posting a link to a website.

I hope you like my idea of doing this and will help me by sending me galleries, blogs and as many images as possible so that they can be saved forever.

Thank you very much and LET'S DO THIS!,

Josed.

Please see the second post of this thread for all the copies of websites that have been saved into the wayback machine.

SAVED WEBSITES:

Click on the date next to the website to view the archived version of the website from that date in the wayback machine. I've done my best to make sure the external urls to a website are saved up to one link deep.

There is a little problem with some forums and websites I am trying to save for the wayback machine. Some forums and websites use sessionid's to track how the user is browsing the forum. The problem for the wayback machine is that the sessionid changes every time.

Example:
http://photos-michael-jackson.elusi...33&sessionid=89245148362fe1e74c5bcb05d69c5920
The sessionid in this url is 89245148362fe1e74c5bcb05d69c5920.
When this url is in the wayback machine with the sessionid it can't be found using the url http://photos-michael-jackson.elusiveshadow.com/categories.php?cat_id=33, but only by using the url with the correct sessionid, in this case: http://photos-michael-jackson.elusi...33&sessionid=89245148362fe1e74c5bcb05d69c5920.

.....and that's a problem... :/

But there are also times when a sessionid is not used, the sessionid is not used when you visit a webpage for the first time. If http://photos-michael-jackson.elusiveshadow.com/categories.php?cat_id=33 is visited there is not yet a sessionid in the url, but when you click on a link in that page the sessionid appears in the url. Because this sessionid is changing, the page is probably not going to be found by the wayback machine and that causes the webpage to look like it's not saved.

So I'm doing two crawls. The first crawl is on my own computer with cookies (the sessionid appears in the url when cookies cannot be stored (like in the wayback machine, it doesn't store cookies)) so the urls have no sessionid. I then use those urls to put them into the wayback machine. Since the sessionid is not in the url for the first time a website is visited the page is saved in the wayback machine without a sessionid. The problem for the user is that they would everytime need to remove the sessionid by hand from the url when they click a link.

If anyone else has any suggestions on better solving this problem, please share it with me.

Please keep this in mind when browsing a website in the wayback machine which has a sessionid.

Josed.

Hi Josed!
You might have saved this one already but if you haven't, you should definitely save mjphotoscollectors.com! It has so many good pics and I'm always scared it'll be taken down like some of the others have, so I'm glad to hear there's a way to save them forever
Thanks! :D

This one for sure, especially for the books and magazines: http://jetzi-mjvideo.com/

I'm working on this one... ;)

I've had a look at the website and it is using sessionid's. I'll have to do it the long way, like some of the other websites, but I'll get it done! :)
I will exclude some links, like the reply to the post links and create a new thread links, since these can't be used in the wayback machine, so they also don't have to be crawled.

I own and run Jetzi. Recently I had to decide if I would renew the webspace or let it die. Some very kind and generous people donated and I was able to renew Jetzi for another three years. Please don't archive my website at the moment as I am updating it and adding to it. I will decide in three years if I should continue and if not I will let you know so you can archive it.

As some fans may remember I started my website as "Jetzi's video frames" some 17 years ago. It started with me uploading screen captures from the enormous video collection I have. As time evolved I got more into putting up videos and took down the "frames". Right now I am in the process of renewing all the frames and the whole of the original "Jetzi's Video Frames" will be back as part of the current "Jetzi's Video DVD". There are well over 1,000 images of Michael, many unique, I am aiming to get it all finished and operational by the end of this month.

I seem to start threads in the wrong place and get told off by the powers that be here so please will somebody tell me the correct forum to post in when the "Frames" are back so everybody who is interested can enjoy a nostalgic Michael ride throughout his amazing career from J5 days until we sadly lost him. ... thank you.

Is it alright if I archive it now and again when it is updated? I'm planning on doing that with the other websites also, to archive them every few months.

I am constantly updating it and will be for the foreseeable future. I have dozens of magazines and books still to be scanned and uploaded as well as videos that I have made but not yet uploaded. I would prefer you waited for three years so people get to see the original site in full, not just part of it ... but it's up to you.

http://photos-michael-jackson.elusiveshadow.com/ has been saved! See the second post for the list of website copies that have been saved by me into the wayback machine: http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/threads/133641-Project-to-save-the-Michael-Jackson-images-and-all-the-other-websites?p=4034180&viewfull=1#post4034180

Since http://photos-michael-jackson.elusiveshadow.com/ contains sessionid's (only visible when cookies are not stored), there are specific instructions to be able to browse this websites in the wayback machine.

INSTRUCTIONS for browsing http://web.archive.org/web/20140807145512/http://photos-michael-jackson.elusiveshadow.com/:

It is admirable and very necessary work. Osion, You are very clever.

It is a pity that websites http://boards.mjjunderground.com and http://www.mjfanclub.net weren't saved. It is the real spiritual wounds for me.

Dear Osion, please, please, save russian forum http://forum.myjackson.ru

A lot of work was enclosed there during these years! A lot of information is there. I will die if the forum will be ever closed and everything will disappear, will fall into the Lethean stream...

Will be working on those! I don't think I'm going to do MJHO now, the forum is still very active... When it becomes less active, tell me and I'll get it done ;)

It's not so much that they're taken down. Sometimes MJ sites don't get updates for ages and the owners just neglect the sites,so whoever owns the properties of the URL's associated with the site besides the actual creator of the site takes the site down. Many great fan MJ sites have been lost because of this.
