Is she for real? :crackingup::lmao:

Taylor Swift is working hard to become the next Michael Jackson. That’s why she’s been tirelessly promoting her “Bad Blood” music video for the past two weeks. Taylor believes that her new music video is this generation’s “Thriller.”

Swift, 25, definitely believes that “Bad Blood” will live up to Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” music video. She has already enlisted and announced some of her 17 celebrity friends that will make a feature in the video. An alleged source told Hollywood Life that Swift hopes to surpass Jackson for having the most talked about music video of all time.

That may not since everything spreads like wildfire on social media these days.

[“Taylor is so excited for the video to come out because she worked on it for quite awhile. There are going to be a lot more surprises that haven’t been revealed as well, but she anticipates this to be her best video ever and something that will rival and surpass Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller.'”]

That’s some high stakes that Taylor has placed on herself. “Thriller” is known as the most iconic music video in pop culture history. All of the response from the music video sky-rocketed Thriller album sales, according to the source. Taylor is hoping that “Bad Blood” will do the same for 1989, even though it’s had its highest amount of album sales since 2002.

Swift has shared 13 posters of characters from the music video. It looks like she’s done promoting the video for now. It’s now being reported that Swift has announced the entire cast for her star-studded and highly-anticipated “Bad Blood” music video.

[“We have… deep breath… models Lily Aldridge, Karlie Kloss, Martha Hunt and Gigi Hadid, Paramore singer Hayley Williams, actresses Jessica Alba, Lena Dunham, Hailey Steinfeld and Zendaya, musician Kendrick Lamar and singer Ellie Goulding.”]

It will also feature Ms. Taylor Swift herself. The full music video is set to premiere at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 17.

But what about Swift’s bff, Selena Gomez? She may make a surprise cameo in the video.

[“Taylor asked Selena to be a part of the video and Selena’s schedule originally had her being unable to do it, but many in Taylor’s camp think that they worked it out and that Selena will be one of the non-announced surprises.”]

Taylor Swift is not only debuting her new music video. She’s also expected to sweep the Billboard Music Awards. The singer-songwriter is up for 14 nominations in 13 categories. Taylor’s even competing with herself for the Top Streaming Song – Video. That won’t be difficult to do.

Swift could snag the most awards since the awards show relaunched in 2011, according to a report on Yahoo! News. Adele was the last singer to pick up 12 awards in 2012, and now Swift is vying to become the new female artist who takes home the most awards.

Do you think Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” will be as iconic as “Thriller”? Do you think she’ll take home the most awards at the BBMAs? Share your thoughts below in the comments section.

She's starting to sound like Kanye West... This gurl funny... She needs social media and 17 celeb friends to top Mike.

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

1989 is such a good pop album.
Love it.

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

Taylor Swift go home you're drunk! That kind of genius comes once in a lifetime but keep dreaming even if she seems ridiculously arrogant or sacrilegious.

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

You'll notice it doesn't say that SHE said that. It's saying she's excited and hope this will be her best video. There are no quotes in the article.

But of course, like clockwork, some of y'all come for people when it's unnecessary.

We already know thriller is g.o.a.t., simmer down.

I know, right?!!

My expression when I read that first sentence. Lol!

She can work a lifetime and she'll never reach the magnitude of Michael.

She irked me already anywayz and now this BS solidifies that for me.
Go sit down somewhere girl.

Oh em gee!

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

Heh. She can try, but there's no way she can top "Thriller".

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

OK Atlas you got a point but it still.....
And the article does say what 'she believes about her latest work'.

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

Yes, you are correct, I have a point.
A weirdly worded article and the fandom jumps on someone over nothing (see above posts for reference).
Slow news day, i guess.

Ugh thank you for stating the obvious. We all know that Thriller is the greatest of all time and there's nothing wrong with having the ambition to try and meet it. Michael had some pretty crazy ambitions too, some of which came true whereas others didn't.

1989 is such a good pop album.
Love it.

Agreed. I don't care for any other of Taylor's music but 1989 was an album I had to buy.

Does this have the potential to top Thriller? Obviously not but could this be the Thriller of this generation? Who knows. I'm pretty keen to see it and have been since seeing the adverts all over FB/Instagram.

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

Taylor can never be as good as Michael. 1989 might be one of her best albums yet. But I'm for one am not interested in it. Not even the tiniest bit. Especially since I can't stand that Shake It Off song of hers. I find the song very annoying. Plus I don't care for her and her music at all. So I will not be watching the Billboard Awards tonight. Without Michael there is just no point of me ever watching any of the music award shows ever again.

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

I'm sorry but why can't she want to top Thriller? Why is it considered almost blasphemous to do so? Computers get smaller and faster, yet it seems the idea of music improving/being better than the classics is blasphemous. I am not a fan of hers by any means but good luck to her if she is genuinely trying to top something that did so much for the culture of music. It sounds like a bit of a throw together in all honesty using all of her A List friends but hey, we'll see tonight. Good luck to the girl!

Re: Taylor Swifts wants to become the new Thriller

So she will have a video with a bunch of celebrities in it? That sounds more like an attempt at being the new Liberian Girl than Thriller.

Also her PR team did use comparations to Thriller and Rhythm Nation to hype her album when it came out and people have every right to call out such ridiculous hyperboles. And music does not become better/improved because someone's PR team declares her album or video or song the new this or that. Time will tell if anything in connection with 1989 will ever be considered legendary. My guess is not.

Eh this is the typical routine. Someone new releases an album and it's the best album since thriller, some new artist gets discovered and he is the successor to MJ, etc etc. it's getting old.

To be fairly honest the report quoted an "alleged" source for this information. So she really didn't say anything.

And as for her video being more popular than Thriller, ha.

It's blasphemous because her PR team is using Michael once again to give her attention and publicity. Even if she didn't say anything specifically, it's her PR's doing. We know to make headlines nowadays people just need drag him.

I've liked some of her songs, but stuff like her new single "Style" or whatever is just extremely shallow and churned out by the marketing machine on a conveyor belt. While Michael made himself, Taylor is a poster girl for the companies to sell merchandice to the 13 year old girl's Instagaram generation.

Damn, Style's one of my favorite songs on the album... I'd be lying if I said I cared about it being 'churned out by the marketing machine' or whatever people call it. I like her voice on it, I like the instrumental and I'm fine with the lyrics. I've never really had a problem with those lyrics being 'shallow' either. I'm not familiar with her discography outside of 1989 and her other super big songs, but I'm sure she has a range of songs with some depth. Shallow lyrics are perfectly fine from time to time imho :)

It's the perfect song to blast while driving at night, look forward to doing that someday!

You know, it's so interesting to me to see Michael Jackson fans read an article like this and automatically jump down throats. If anything being an MJ fan has taught people, it is to not believe anything you read. Taylor Swift started as the youngest song writer ever hired by Sony, to country singer, to international pop sensation, and she's 25 and a female. She's constantly teased for her personal life, and yet you still never hear her taking personal shots at anyone, no feuds with other singers that have become so common to read about these days. I'm not saying she's a new MJ, and I'm not a Taylor Swift fan (though I do enjoy some of her songs / can't say I've ever heard a full album.) Yes she definitely doesn't get as much tabloid bullied attention as MJ got, but I can't think of another celebrity at the moment that is as successful as her that also manages to have her personal life laid out and teased. I mean, how many times do you walk into a grocery store and read "Yet Another of Taylor Swift's Men Has Left (Again.)" Give her a break. She's trying to put out an album, she's collaborating with artists for a mix of what will be some interesting music, she hasn't said 2 words EVER about Thriller in any way shape or form. We should know by this point that an "anonymous source" usually doesn't exist at all because the press made them up to make their story more credible so that people will buy their stories. We all know "Taylor Swift Makes a New Album with Guests" would not sell as well as "Tipster Says Swifty's the New Thriller."

Taylor Swifts new album this generation's Thriller? LMAO that's a good one. This coming from a girl that can't even hold a note without taking a breath. This girl needs to go away.

Her music is not my kind although I do think she is good. I really doubt she said anything in comparison to Thriller. She's not stupid I would hope.

Who hurt you in your life? You can’t even find Shake it Off at least a bit fun?
Also, she’s in a different genre of music, so i don’t know why you’d compare her to MJ…

Don’t be so dramatic. And how is this article dragging MJ? It’s saying Taylor wants to achieve a higher status with this video. wtf are you reading?

Why does she need to go away? She’s not going away. She has a huge fan base. If you ain’t feeling’ it, don’t listen.
Most of the posters on here hate pop stars who show too much skin and whore it up, but here we have a huge pop star who does NOT over sexualize her image and doesn't take shots at other singers and she STILL gets shit for it. There’s no winning with you people.

It’s still an accomplishment that a single album can produce multiple top 10 hits back to back.
Yes, we know MJ did all that good stuff back in the day. But it’s a new day and time. There is plenty of room for other people to have their moments.

This is not a Taylor Swift forum. Not a Beyonce forum. Not a Chris Brown forum. Not a Justin Timberlake forum. Etc. Which means that whenever someone starts a thread about comparing any of those artists to Michael, the opinions about those artists will not necessarily be of voices of admiration. If most folks here were Taylor Swift fans we would be on her forum. I don't know why we are expected to admire everyone who is mentioned on this forum. Personally Taylor Swift does nothing to me. I don't find her particularly talented. She has her own fanbase and does not need my support, but it's not like everyone is obliged to be her fan just because she is currently popular and is mentioned here.

What people are mainly saying here is that we are sceptical about statements that she could do anything that would compare to Thriller. And what is wrong with that? An album or a video does not become a new Thriller just because someone's PR team or temporary hype in the media declares it that. Only time will tell if she managed to achieve that or not.

:punk: THANK YOU! I don't get why some people here seem to not understand that simple truth?! I also find it condescending and rude AF when Mike's fans are told they need to "simmer down" when they voice their opinion about such foolishness (in the opening thread post). To even suggest that anyone could conjure up "the next Thriller" is as insulting as someone saying they could paint "this year's Mona Lisa"...GTFOH with that nonsense, lol! Thriller is a masterpiece that has stood and will continue to stand the test of time and cannot be duplicated or outdone.

If some people have a problem with fans of Michael Jackson being passionate about him and his incredible contributions to the music/entertainment industry, then they need to remove themselves from a MICHAEL JACKSON-oriented website.

BTW here is the video. "New Thriller"? LOL. Okay, next. (I am really a hero for getting through it. Sorry to any Taylor Swift fans here, but the music is horrible to my ears.)

Not a Chris Brown forum.

Well, I would hope not. I don't support men who beat up women. Weird how his career is chugging along still.

:D

I never said anyone had to be a fan. I just think it's weird that if MJ is mentioned in an article with popstar X, it's generally posters trashing said artist for no real reason (i understand the Kanye thing, but these aren't even Taylors words), whereas people would be indifferent if they weren't mentioned at the same time.

Saying that 1989 or any Taylor Swift video is not Thriller is not "trashing". I also do not think people saying they do not like Taylor Swift as an artist is "trashing" either. People have no obligation to love Taylor Swift.

Thanks Respect for posting that video. I was wondering what Taylor or her pr people meant by that her video is going to be Thriller? As far as I could see, there was nothing on the video that was ground breaking, new, or unusual (or anything at all to be honest).

I shall go back to minding my own business unimpressed

Ps, a few years back Rihanna's pr people said that her new album is going to be as big as Thriller, full of hits. What happen to that:giggle:

Having said that it is nice to see that these current names uses Michael as The Singer/Dancer/..etc as top of the cake and trying to reach his level. We shall see in time how they did.

Well, visit a Prince, or lord forbid an Elvis site where an article compares popstar X to one of them. The board explodes.

MJ's name gets bandied about with any one with major success or even minor success. Of course, it's just a marketing tool. Being compared to the best means popstar X is on that level in some regard. But on MJ's fan specific board, we of course, comment about it. Why wouldn't we, especially when it happens all the time. If anybody with a hit or a lot of hits, is equated to MJ or his work, it lessens his stature as apparently all these popstar X's can reach it. It's not weird at all being annoyed by the unrelenting comparisons. It's tiresome that they are always being made.

ETA: To be specific about Taylor, it is not trashing her to feel any video she does cannot be compared to MJ's Thriller. Thriller was iconic because of MJ's PERFORMANCE in it. Just like Motown 25 is iconic because of HIS performance. His vocals and dancing. I like Taylor a lot, but there is no performance she can execute that compares to MJ because she does not have his singing and dancing gifts. So whatever Bad Blood is, it's not another Thriller. Her PR folks need to stop. They invite criticisms by making such a mention.

Awesome post:clapping:

As for last paragraph, I still cannot see anything in her video that would make people want to see it after 30 years time, never mind next year, nothing iconic to make it remarkable and remembered like Michael's stuff:scratch:

What was meant to be Thriller bit in her video? Dancing, technology, innovation or inventing something new, bringing something new to the videos?

Seriously, why do these artist wanna be like MJ or try and be better? MJ is the King of Pop and no one can beat the king of pop end of story.
